How important is dmoz?
-
I am just wondering. I don't know much about it. One of our competitor is ranking well and is the only one in our niche regitered with Dmoz. It has a clean back link profile, with all natural links, no exact anchor problems, but not that many links. Website is quite thin (ecommerce) but seems to be liked by google since the recent updates.
Do we know if dmoz i one of the reason they rank well?
If I needed to merge their site with mine, should I take it into consideration? Or is outdated and does not matter that much anymore?
Both page rank is 2, my link profile is not as good.

Hi Cecil,
DMOZ as Kane mentions is trustworthy and valuble. Many directories scrape it, earning more directory links. I've read a great article on getting accepted into DMOZ here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/want-to-get-listed-in-dmoz-become-an-editor
Hope this helps.

The best approach to DMOZ (to keep your sanity) is to treat it the same way you would any other link that a competitor has: it's trustworthy and valuable, but not a requirement. If you can get a link from a page with similar PA & DA, I would consider that a rough equivalent for the DMOZ link. Links from DMOZ supposedly do not get a special "bump", it just happens to be a trustworthy and quality link.
Here's a couple of Matt Cutts videos that talk about DMOZ - infer what you will from them:

How important are automatic 301s?
Ocassionally the URL for a product on our website will change. The shopping cart does NOT automatically create a 301 for the old URL to the new one. So in WMT the old URL's will appear as Not Found errors (even though all links in the cart automatically update, so there are no broken links within the cart). These issues always sort themselves out with some time, but still disconcerting. Is this a major issue? Thanks!

How important are different class c subnets and ip's
We're thinking of launching several blogs in our niche and 'building them up' organically, and then linking naturally from them to our sites (very conservatively). I was wondering if we should buy entirely separate hosting for these blogs and how important are separate ip addresses and class c subnets (shown on majestic SEO tools for instance). Is it possible to create a set of authoritative blogs in a niche and have them be a little 'neighborhood' within the same shared hosting provider (obv similiar class c or even same ip).

How important are directory submissions to my off-page SEO?
Hi Guys, One area of my link building that I carry out is looking for online directories and social bookmarking websites to submit my website to. I do this in order to gain some backlinks to my website. What I want to know is are they really worth my time, and if so, which types would you say are the most important? I have obviously been through many directory lists, both on SEOmoz and on other websites, and also performed various searches to find relevant directories to my website. I just feel that posting up a link that lies deep in a directory online that, more often than not, have very low PA and lots of outbound links will offer very little in terms of SEO. If anything, this could really bring down the quality of my links and be detrimental to my website, right? This is a subject that I have been thinking about for a while and especially with the recent algorithm update from Google and the attack on many web directories that are, lets say, 'not playing by the rules', I'm worried that this will have a negative impact for my website. Let me know your thoughts guys and if you have any tips on how to get higher quality links from these kind of submission then I'm all ears! Matt.

Is it important to have a geo modifier for local SEO link building?
If anyone here is familiar with local SEO, you may have noticed that there are different local results for: "city + Keyword" and just the "keyword". When building links will you end up targeting both with a geo modifier in the link, or is it beneficial to build links without the geo modifer for the keyword?
