Open site explorer is showing a very spammy link profile for one of my clients, however, when I click through to the actual pages I don't see the links or even the anchor text.

The client has not hired anyone to do clean up on the site and is not yet aware of the links.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

Link building with PDFs

I created a manual for a popular piece of equipment and placed it, as a PDF-file, on my website. The PDF contains a clickable link to the root domain of my website. Other websites have downloaded the PDF and put it on their own website, hosting it themselves. Since Google indexes PDFs, does the link in the PDF count as a regular 'link' from an external website, and does it have comparable value? Can't find any thoughts or studies about this anywhere.

Links from spam sites

Hi! Thank you in advance for your help. Few months ago we suffered a content spam attack. Now, We have discovered that we have imbound links pointing the spam content from external spam and untrusted sites. Could be this affect our ranking? In this case... How can we notify to Google that we refuse these imbound links? Cheers, Luis

Which Links to Disavow!

We just took over SEO for a new client who is being penalized for a bad link profile. They've asked Google to reconsider multiple times, and Google still claims that the links are bad. Because of this, and because I don't have direct access (logins, etc.) to what the former SEO did, I am considering using the disavow links tool. The most obvious links to disavow are a group of almost 1000 links that come from the same forum. However, when viewing the links on this forum they actually seem natural. People are reviewing the product (ipod cases), both negatively and positively. While this could have been an SEO tactic for link building, I don't want to disavow these links if they're not the problem, even though this domain is the source of almost all the low-quality links. Another site that has more than 200 links is Askives. Do any of you have experience with links from Askives, or removing these links? Thanks again!

Are the following considered bad links for Link Building.

I've been doing a lot of research lately on link building & I've read a lot about having a diverse amount of links. Social links, Blog links, comment links, footer links, No follow links, Directory links as well as links with Anchor text URL match, brand match, partial brand match, non-descriptive, and with keywords. But there is a lot of talk of removing those links that look like a site that's built just for link building purposes.... but Directories are basically built for link building are they not? I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they feel links from the following directories would be bad links. If you are building links in forums how can you decide which forums to post to? Of course you can have a look at averall traffic in Alexa or mozrank but is there anything else you can look at?

Link Building....confused!

Hi Guys, I'm after some advise please. We have a client who offers self catering accommodation to let on his website. We are looking at ways to increase links to his site and one idea we had was to possibly affiliate ourselves with local companies within the areas of the specific accommodation. Our client is looking to partner with local business's in each area of said accommodation (probably two of each kind) and then send the details of these business' with whatever special deals they will offer customers on every confirmation that goes out to the clients. Obviously, in return, these business' will then link to Room-B. What I'm trying to find out is if linking to partners via an email delivered from thewebsite is safe in terms of link juice: it's important that Google doesn't index any outbound links to partners from us at all. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
