Hi,
We produce research report on same topic every year (e.g. cost of patrol in different part of the country) and publish them to a new url every time.
What is the best way to do it?
- create new page every year or
- update the existing research report with modification
Considering long term benefits.
Thanks

Hi,
In order to answer this Q. lets check the positive and negative spots of each.
1.) New page every year:
- (+) every year your readers get a clean statistic with the patrol prices
- (+) you have a "series" which then can be checked from year to year (just as SEOmoz had that SEO Industry Survey
- (-) it has less link juice flowing in (since each year you will have separate pages, separate links, etc)
2.) Update and existing page on yearly basis
- (+) you get more link juice flowing in (since the page each year, when statistics will be published will get some new and new links)
- (+) people get to "know" your URL (another SEOmoz example: www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change)
- (-) the statistics will be less clear (too much information on one page)
In each cases you will have to create a balance: how much can you invest in creating the "buzz" around your topic, how fast is it picked up by other parties, etc.
If it was me, I would go with the second option, creating one each year (and at the end of the article just point out the last years statistics, because some readers could be interested in comparing).
I know that there are a lot more differences between the two options, I just picked out a few. But I hope that already helped you.
Greetings,
Istvan

If it were up to me, I'd be creating a new page each time. Then within the closing paragraph of each report I'd link to previous reports for those that are interested in the historical stats.
Think of it this way - SEO changes on a regular basis, if we went back and modified all our old posts to reflect the new data, then we'd have no archive of previous updates, or a single post would be so large, that no-one would ever read it.
++ You could have one "master post" in which you summerise all of your previous years reports. That way those that just want the abridged version can read that one, whereas those interested in the nitty gritty can see each year in detail.

Blog Content
I keep reading that a steady stream of new blogs from my site is a great way for getting inbound links to my site. My question is... Does the content of my blogs have to be relevant to my site? My site is www.marblerenovation.com. If the blog should stay relevant, I am finding it pretty hard to create engaging content around cleaning marble floors. Also, does anyone know of a good place to find bloggers to help create this content? Thanks in advance everyone Dave

SEO for a News based site : Outdated content
How do we maintain the SEO of a 5 year old News content based site? How should we deal with 3-4 year old content, which are outdated or not searched? Some of them are still useful as archiving/history of a topic..but not searched.... ?? Should we no-index them? or should we keep it like that?

Possible to recover from Thin/Duplicate content penalties?
Hi all, first post here so sorry if in wrong section. After a little advice, if I may, from more experienced SEOers than myself with regards to writing off domains or keeping them. To cut a long story short I do a lot of affiliate marketing, back in the day (until the past 6 months or so) you could just take a merchant's datafeed and with some SEO outrank them for individual products. However, since the Google Panda update this hasn't worked as well and now it's much hard to do - which is better for the end user. The issue I have is that I got lazy and tried to see if I could still get some datafeeds to rank with only duplicate content. The sites ranked very well at first but after a couple of weeks died massively. They went from 0 to 300 hits a day in a matter of 24 hours and back to 2 hits a day. The sites now not rank for anything which is obviously because they are duplicate content. The question I have is are these domains dead, can they be saved? Not talking about duplicate content but as a domain itself. I used about 10 domains to test things, they ranged from DA 35 to DA 45 - one of the tests being can a domain with reasonable DA rank for duplicate content. Seeing as the test didn't work I want to use the domains for proper sites with proper unique content, however so far although the new unique content is getting indexed it is suffering from the same ranking penalties the duplicate (and now deleted content) pages had. Is it worth trying to use these domains, will Google finally remove the penalty when they notice that the bad content is no longer on the site or are the domains very much dead? Many thanks

How often should content be updated
With all of Google's recent algo updates (or ranking updates, whatever they're calling it now), we've obviously been looking into changing our content strategy and shifting it from quantity to quality. How often would you say is ideal for website content updates? i.e. should we be updating once a month? Once every couple of months? This isn't a blog - just a regular services-oriented site. My take on it is that it should be as often as organically possible - and that means something different for everyone. At the same time, we want Google coming back frequently to crawl the site. Thanks!

Dupplicate Page Content
Hey Guys SEOMOZ is showing up Dupplicate Page Content, but this just comes up because we use Tags at all the blog posts. Should we better not use Tags? Thanks in advance...
