Mutiple businesses, same address and suite?
-
Hey guys,
We have several businesses, two agencies and one online store all sharing the same address and suite. We aren't focused on getting local foot traffic at all, but I've seen the benefits of local citations + google+ and local directories.
Is there any negative to using the same address with Google? Will they eventually see that and devalue anything SEO wise?

Hi Searchpl,
So glad you asked this question before going forward. Having businesses share the same address in Google+ Local is a big taboo. Don't do it! The dangers are merged and duplicate listings and an inability to rank.
Instead, if you are running 3 totally distinct entities from the same building (let's say a chiropractor's office, a yoga studio and an e-commerce site selling neck support pillows), you could take this approach:
1. Get a unique suite number for the yoga studio and another for the chiropractor's office, to which mail can be delivered at the building.
2. Get a unique local phone number for the yoga studio and another for the chiro office. Do not use either of these numbers for the online store.
3. Do not publish the physical address or phone numbers of either the chiropractor's office or the yoga studio on the e-commerce website. You must have a third phone number (could be a toll free one) for the e-commerce store, but must have local numbers for the other two businesses.
4. Set up a unique Places listing/Google+ Local page for the yoga studio, and another for the chiro office, but do not do this for the e-commerce store as it is not a true local business (no in-person transactions with customers).
The above method is the only way I would recommend moving into the local space. Any other approach puts the business at risk for a mess of trouble in the SERPs. Hope this helps!
P.S. All of the above advice presupposes that each of the 3 businesses has a unique name. In other words, Dr. Jones Chiropractor, New Life Yoga Studio, and Neck Pillows Central.

I think as far as SEO value, what you probably don't want is a merge of the listings if you create them. If you had unique suite numbers and phone numbers you might be able to create a listing for each and avoid a merge. But since each is using the same suite number this would likely not work well at all.
I'm not an authority on Local or G+, but what I know is that Google for one does not handle multiple businesses and same address all too well.. There is a lot of information on Local listings with multiple businesses, but below is a previous Moz Q&A that might give some insight.

Can a Swiss mailing address hurt my ranking in the USA
Hello, I have a US phone number on my website because all my clients are in the USA but a Swiss address on my website because I am based in Switzerland. I also registered my website on google my business with a Swiss address. I noticed that I rank fairly well (on the 1 st page for many keywords in Switzerland when searching from my location (Switzerland) on google.com but when I connect to adwords (choosing USA) or with a proxy in the USA to check my ranking I see myself nowhere on the 1 st page. Why is that ? is it because I have a Swiss address ?Is the fact that I have a Swiss address and I am based in Switzerland hurt my ranking in the USA ?Thank you,

How Critical to Address Redirect Chains?
We have about 100 redirect chains and were not sure of the impact they are having on our SEO. One SEO expert wants to charge around $800 to clean these up for us. Any thoughts on how serious of an issue this is and how important it is to address?

Local business with two separate websites...what to do?
Hey Mozzers! I have a client that I'm helping with some online ad campaigns for lead generation, but they recently had an SEO issue pop up I'm looking into for them. For whatever reason, they have 2 websites. Those are: http://www.healthsourceofroyalpalmbeach.com/ (newer site) http://www.healthsourcedecompression.com/ (older site) Their local listing is connected to the older site (above) and that's where they have all of their reviews. I know the BEST solution is probably to nix one of the sites and setup proper redirects, but how can they keep BOTH sites without damaging their SEO efforts? Currently, BOTH sites rank on page one for their primary kw target "chiropractors royal palm beach fl" Appreciate the help! Ricky

Switching from Google Plus Local to Google Plus Business
Greetings, We have a website design firm located in India. We wanted to target customers in our city who are looking for website design locally. And with google plus local and a few content marketing would get us into first page very soon because none in the competition is using social signals or even content marketing. BUT unfortunately from last month even though our Google Places is verified we cant verify our Google Local Plus page https://plus.google.com/b/116513400635428782065/ It just shows error 500. Its a bug and its been a year for people without it being addressed. So we are skeptical if our strategy would work without Google+. At the least we decided we would just make company local page and connect it with website. But it might not have effect as local. So we are still unsure which step to take either to wait for google to fix it.(feedbacks emails calls nothing worked) OR We start the process with Google Business Category.

Changing Server IP Addresses. Should I be concerned?
Hello Mozers Our site has been on a dedicated server for about four years now. (no other sites, just ours on the server) I have made the decision to move it to a much better and faster server than the current server we are on for more than one reason. My big fear is Google will lose trust for my site because of the IP change. Ip's stay with the server at 1and1 they do not follow the website. So, I have done my due diligence and copied over all code and databases and have tested it completely to insure there are no issues when I change the DNS to point to the new server. Made sure 1and1 is giving me an IP that has never been used, I am Keeping the old server on until cached DNS records expire for it. Is there anything else I need to do to make sure I do not lose current rankings in Google? I have heard nightmare stories about making these kinds of changes but at this point for our site there is no turning back this is a change that must take place. Any pointers and advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!
