Site getting referral traffic from its self
-
Buon giorno from zero degrees C freezing fog Wetherby UK
On this site http://www.collegeofphlebology.com i ran a referral report via Google Analytics and was surprised ro see referral traffic being counted from its own url, illustration here http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/referral-anomoly.jpg
So my question is please how can a site get referral traffic from the same url?
Grazie Tanto,
David

David,
i just did a quick scan of your site with my sitemap program and it resulted in several 301 redirects. Could that be the problem?
deep-vein-thrombosis/contact-us = 301
duplex-ultrasound/contact-us = 301
endovenous-laser-ablation/contact-us = 301
great-saphenous-vein/contact-us = 301
leg-ulcers/contact-us = 301
ovarian-veins/ = 301
perforator-veins/contact-us = 301
radiofrequency-ablation/contact-us= 301
register/ =301
reticular-veins/ = 301
small-saphenous-vein/contact-us = 301
thread-veins/contact-us = 301
trlop/contact-us = 301
varicose-veins/contact-us = 301
Even if these don't result in the internal referring results i think you should clean these up.

Jarno

Hi David,
It's probably caused by the fact the website has a Spanish language subdomain, yet you only employ a root level (www.) analytics code across the root and subdomain. Within analytics, if you go to the Admin, Tracking Info, you should be able to toggle a setting to allow for subdomains. Generate this new script and place it into the source and that should do the trick.
Cheers
Matt
PS - it's minus 5 here in Bath... Brrr.

Nightwing,
do you have any redirects installed from or to the root of your site? Do any pages result in a 404 redirect or anything?
This could explain it because the websites is then referring to its self. I have had that in the past because of a redirect from an old page which resulted in a 404. When i fixed that my referring traffic disappeared.
Hope it helps
Regards
Jarno

Nofollow links on our site menu
Hi Our site's front page has almost 900 internal links on it (it's an ecommerce site with about 25,000 products). A lot of these are on a pretty involved dropdown menu, which is on every page. I can't really do anything to get this figure down (its outside my remit), but one thing the developers have done is make all the menu links nofollow on the mobile version of the menu (site is responsive) - otherwise there would be even more links! My question is as to whether doing this for the mobile menu is a good idea, in terms of SEO?

What changes do i need to make to my site to get into google news
Hi, when we had the old design, we were in google news but then when we upgraded our site, we had a major problem which forced us to have to redesign our site. Since then we have not been included in google news and we would like to get back in. We only want to be in google news for the following page http://www.in2town.co.uk/Latest-News-Headlines But for some reason, no matter what we do we keep getting knocked back. I would love to know what we should be doing to get into google news and see what the problems are. We have moved to a bigger dedicated server to increase speed so i know it is not that. Any help would be great Also is there an alternative to google news that i can get our site into to generate traffic and to get our news stories straight out to people Hi, Thank you for your note. High-Traffic but Low PageRank?
Hi all, I just did a site audit, and I noticed that some of my high-traffic pages have a PR 0. The other pages on the site have PR 4 or 5, and yet the PR 0 pages are among the highest-traffic landing pages we have. This simply does not make any sense to me. Any ideas? Thanks!

Site being indexed by Google before it has launched
We are currently coming towards the end of migrating one of our retail sites over to magento. To our horror, we find out today that some pages are already being indexed by Google, and we have started receiving orders through new site. Do you have any suggestions for what may have caused this? Or similarly, what the best solution would be to de-index ourselves? We most recently excluded anything with a certain parameter from robots.txt - could this being implemented incorrectly have caused this issue? Thanks
