Wordpress plugin for facilitating adding a post descriptions
-
Could anyone recommend a plugin for creating wordpress post descriptions. There is a confusingly large selection of choices in the wordpress plugins directory.
-
Why do you prefer the All In One SEO plugin over the others?
-
I agree- add "all in one seo plugin"
-
Thank you I will

Catherine, I see what you're after now, my first answer may not have answered it correctly.
The best route and probably the easiest thing you're after is an SEO plugin - I'd reccommend the 'All in one SEO' plugin. It allows for you to customise title tags and descriptions for individual posts, and add rules for formatting title tags of post types, categories etc.
Just install it from the backend under Plugins > Add New and check out the settings pages to active it. Then, on each individual post, check the bottom of the page - you'll see an additional meta box with additional options which are all self explanatory.
Hope this helps

A great WordPress plugin for all things SEO (including the Meta description) is WordPress SEO from Yoast.

Hi Aaron, thanks for you reply. I must admit it went over my head a bit. I've only just started in Wp. I need to be able to add a description to the post for SERPs and to meet the criteria outputted by my query to the SEOmoz onpage optimization tool. I don't want any fancy stuff (or my head will explode). Equally I don't want to add plugins for every problem I meet.
I've added some code in the header to create a generic description from a tagline I entered in General Settings, just as an experiment. It (the generic description) now appears in my blogs header, which I definitely don't want.
Is adding a facility to add a unique meta description (not displayed) very technical? If so maybe I'd be better off adding yet another plugin.
Thanks again
Catherine

The most simple method of doing this is by adding into your template file where you'd like the first 40 words followed by a More >> link.
This can also be added into the loop, for example on an archive page. If you need to display the excerpt on a home page, or anywhere out of the loop, this should be combined with the WP_Query class to call posts from the WP DB.
Reply to this post if you need more help! I develop all of my sites from the ground up in Wordpress.

Aaron

No H1 tag in wordpress, what are the implications?
When checking my blog posts I noticed that they don't contain any H1 tags. This confused me as I'd heard that wordpress automatically puts H1 tags on your blog post titles. Is this something that might negatively affect my rankings? If an H1 tag is absent, does the H2 tag take center stage so to speak? Is this something my wordpress theme does and how can I fix it? Cheers! Anton

Post vs page in Wordpress?
Hello there, I have a Wordpress site and would like to know if it is better to have 600 posts or 600 pages in terms of efficiency in the site. I would like to publish the content as pages, as I can have subapges,etc... and keep the path: www.website.com/page/subpage1... in terms of good SEO. This structure of using pages rahter than posts allow me to keep the path as stated above (with a category/post path I could not manage in this sense as a pile of articles is displayed although the path category/post in terms of SEO I understand would be good too). Thank you very much for your thoughts here as I would go for a page structure. Antonio

Is it a bad that my site has the same title and description for directory listings?
I manually listed my site in a few hundred free directories, two paid directores (Joe ant $40, and dirmania $12), and 50 directories that require a reciprocal link ( I paid for a cheap service that gets around having to do the reciprocal). I made the big mistake of having the title and the description for these as the same or very close to the same...is this a huge problem? Should I have my site removed from the free directories or just let it go? I've since stopped focusing on all the directories, and considering saving up to get in Yahoo directory. Working now on getting legit and relevant links from .edu sites.

Adding no follow links on my site
I am getting a warning about having too many links on my page www.accessoriesonline.co.uk (152) but I don't want to remove any links from the site. Its an ecommerce site with categories across the top, featured products and then a further category navigation in the footer. Would it be beneficial if I added a rel="nofollow" to the links in the footer as these are duplicates of the one's in the header or would this harm the links in the header and the destination URL's which I definitely want to be crawled? Also, does anyone know if SEOMOZ considers links with a rel=nofollow as an actually link when they calculate their overview? Thanks in advance

404 erros on wordpress blog
Both SEOMOZ and Google webmaster tools report lots of 404 errors throughout my wordpress blog. I have the url structure set to category/title Most of the 404 errors seem to be that the crawler is looking for a /home.html page. Each time I add a new post I get more 404 errors. I could, of course, add 301 redirects but I presume there is an easy way to do this within the WP setup. Any ideas? Thanks
