Which would you chose? Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's & 40 IBL (Same Domain)
Pretty self explanatory. I want to know what metrics SEOMozzers rely on most. If you are not an expert at evaluating links for large scale development please don't muddy the waters on this question with a thin and vague answer.
-
Just the basic PageRank logic, nothing too fancy. I purposely didn't want to drill into quality and nature of each individual inbound link. The element that did bother me in that decision was whether the IBL's were unique domain or c-block. Other than that what wins is the fact that there are fewer outgoing links on the page I'm getting link from. I assumed this was external outgoing backlinks (not counting internal links, nav, footer etc).
-
Care to elaborate on why?
-
Depends. How trustworthy vs spammy are we talking here? Need more info really - why not link the two pages or two similar pages on another domain so we can judge
If we assume the strength of the inbound links is measured by the PA, then I dont think the quanitity of IBLs by themselves are significant. (How many individual domains are linking, what anchor text etc?)
If the 75 is the homepage, id take that, as I think a 75 homepage can easily support 225 OBs without penalty. (altho both 80 and 225 could easily be spammy)
Otherwise Id take whichever is the closest to the content of your website and gives you a link from within a paragraph of text

My choice: Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's

Large site with content silo's - best practice for deep indexing silo content
Thanks in advance for any advice/links/discussion. This honestly might be a scenario where we need to do some A/B testing. We have a massive (5 Million) content silo that is the basis for our long tail search strategy. Organic search traffic hits our individual "product" pages and we've divided our silo with a parent category & then secondarily with a field (so we can cross link to other content silo's using the same parent/field categorizations). We don't anticipate, nor expect to have top level category pages receive organic traffic - most people are searching for the individual/specific product (long tail). We're not trying to rank or get traffic for searches of all products in "category X" and others are competing and spending a lot in that area (head). The intent/purpose of the site structure/taxonomy is to more easily enable bots/crawlers to get deeper into our content silos. We've built the page for humans, but included link structure/taxonomy to assist crawlers. So here's my question on best practices. How to handle categories with 1,000+ pages/pagination. With our most popular product categories, there might be 100,000's products in one category. My top level hub page for a category looks like www.mysite/categoryA and the page build is showing 50 products and then pagination from 1-1000+. Currently we're using rel=next for pagination and for pages like www.mysite/categoryA?page=6 we make it reference itself as canonical (not the first/top page www.mysite/categoryA). Our goal is deep crawl/indexation of our silo. I use ScreamingFrog and SEOMoz campaign crawl to sample (site takes a week+ to fully crawl) and with each of these tools it "looks" like crawlers have gotten a bit "bogged down" with large categories with tons of pagination. For example rather than crawl multiple categories or fields to get to multiple product pages, some bots will hit all 1,000 (rel=next) pages of a single category. I don't want to waste crawl budget going through 1,000 pages of a single category, versus discovering/crawling more categories. I can't seem to find a consensus as to how to approach the issue. I can't have a page that lists "all" - there's just too much, so we're going to need pagination. I'm not worried about category pagination pages cannibalizing traffic as I don't expect any (should I make pages 2-1,000) noindex and canonically reference the main/first page in the category?). Should I worry about crawlers going deep in pagination among 1 category versus getting to more top level categories? Thanks!

Question about SEO and domains
Hello, Over time we have purchased many domain names that relate to our business. Let us say we sell chairs of type A, chairs of type B, Tables of Type C etc. We also have a main web site (main domain) which has been functioning for many years and is ranked well but not great. Since we have domain chairtypeA.com and chairtypeB.com I was thinking of putting them to good use as follows. STRATEGY A a) Create the domain as a parallel domain but is mainly informational - it talks about chair type A, its history, what to look for etc. It has the same IP address as main domain b) Have all the links on the page be directly linked to the MAIN site- so if you are on page for ChairtypeA and want to see it in a set you just click a link and it takes you to the main site. c) The look and feel of the ChairtypeA site is exactly the same as the main site - in fact except for the Heading, title and content the whole framework is from the main site. My hope is that if people are looking for chairtypeA, we would rank and attract customers. Plus it would use up some of the domain names we have purchased. THE OTHER ALTERNATIVE (Strategy B) is a) Create a domain for chairtypeA parallel to main domain (same IP address) b) redirect it to subfolder in main domain c) refer to the pages also as maindomain/chairtypeA (here is where it is no longer purely parallel) I have 3 objectives a) Use my purchased domain names b) Focus on certain products (liek ChairtypeA) c) Overall increase visibility and ranking Please give me any feedback which indicates whether Strategy A or Strategy B is more effective, or if any has negative consequences. Or you could suggest Strategy C - a completely new approach. Thanks Sam

Why has my MozTrust & DA dropped
Hi The company i work for are in the middle of relaunching our product, so during this time we have not been generating much traffic to the site. We are still getting about 800 SEO visits a month, however, as we aren't doing email marketing our site traffic overall has dropped. I have noticed that since October or MozTrust and Domain Authority seems to be dropping. Our DA was at 18 then in the space of a few weeks has dropped to 10. Our Moztrust was at about 3 and now is at 0. Our links to the site seems to be disappearing to according to Moz, however other back linking website are saying they are still there. Could someone maybe shed some light on what i may have done wrong to lose these two things and so quickly. This all happened mid to late October. During the Hummingbird release we were fine! We have also just updated out website with lots of new content. In fact increased it 4x. There are great internal links throughout the site. Thank you

Comparing Domain Authority Scores
Since your scale (like PageRank) is a logarithmic scale, it makes it hard to judge the distance between 2 scores. Can you give me a rule of thumb. For PageRank, each jump is an exponential jump - so that a PR6 is perhaps 10 times stronger than a PR5. What is the log base that SEOMoz uses. Should I assume that a 60 is 10 times stronger than a 50? This is important when it comes to measuring progress because growth is going to get more difficult as you move up the scale and I need to communicate the distance between our current Authority score and our goal. Thank You!

Issue getting total links, page & domain authority
Hi guys, I am trying to get total links, page & domain authority using the API. I am requesting the following columns: Cols=6871947673632768328204816384343597383681653687091214 { "fjid": 207343179, "ued": 43324279, "pib": 255645, "ptrr": 0.0056131743357352125, "fmrp": 8.246626591590841, "unid": 954915, "fjf": 4003651, "fjr": 0.00040067116628622016, "ftrp": 8.308303969566644, "ftrr": 0.0012189619975325583, "fejp": 9.265328830369816, "pnid": 45883246, "fjd": 2480265, "ujfq": 1277385, "pjip": 1230240, "fjp": 9.586342983782004, "fuid": 294877628, "uu": "www.google.com/", "pejr": 0.0004768398971363439, "ufq": "www.google.com/", "pejp": 9.647424778525615, "ujp": 300689, "utrp": 7.916901429865898, "ptrp": 9.487254666203722, "utrr": 0.001639219985667878, "fmrr": 0.000731592927123369, "pda": 100, "pjd": 5600882, "ulc": 1342758719, "fnid": 12165784, "fejr": 0.00016052965883996156, "ujb": 107264 } I cannot see the UPA column returned in the JSON object. Im using 34359738368 for the UPA column. I need to retrieve the three fields (page authority, domain authority and total links) in the same query. Is it possible?

Link not showing up in OSE
I created a profile in April this year on CrunchBase for my company http://www.crunchbase.com/company/wallpapered but it is not appearing in the "inbound links" of Open Site Explorer. All the other companies I have checked in OSE have their CrunchBase profile in their inbound links (many share the same Page authority as mine). Any suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks

Internal Links
I've searched high and low, but I could just be missing it... Is there a report on internal links? Maybe a count? Or better yet, a way to see internal anchor text?
