Does anyone have any experience using GoodRelations Snippet Generator for E-Commerce versus markup from Schema.org?
-
I am trying to implement Structured Data markup on a large e-commerce site that has ancient code and is not on any standard e-commerce platform. It is a Webstore we self-host that was developed for us and heavily customized.
What's worse is that I don't have access to the source code. I have to somehow instruct our IT Director how and where to place everything. So I'm going to need to be meticulously specific.
As I began wading through our code and determining where to insert code as instructed by Schema.org I ran across this on one of their pages:
"This class contains derivatives of properties from the GoodRelations Vocabulary for E-Commerce, created by Martin Hepp. GoodRelations is a data model for sharing e-commerce data on the Web that can be expressed in a variety of syntaxes, including RDFa and HTML5 Microdata. More information about GoodRelations can be found at http://purl.org/goodrelations/."
I went to check it out and it appears that this could be a great resource as it has a snippet generator and several "cookbooks" for adding micro data to our site. Here's a link to their snippet generator:
http://www.ebusiness-unibw.org/tools/grsnippetgen/
However, with a catalog of 5,000 SKUs, needless to say we aren't going to plug in our products into this generator one-by one.
Has anyone here successfully used GoodRelations to help them implement micro data into a large E-commerce site that isn't a standard platform (not Magento, WP, Joomla or Volusion) ??
I would be very greatful to anyone who can share their experiences and or make suggestions on how we might best proceed. Thanks!

Well, I may have answered my own question
I found an SEOMoz forum post by Ruchard Baxter (of course!) - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/schemaorg-a-new-approach-to-structured-data-for-seo
It appears Schema.org is the way to go....I wish Schema.org hadn't referenced GoodRelations because I feel they sent me hopping down a bunny trail of the "old ways,"
Still, any insights, ideas or experiences any of you have had with structured data markup on large e-commerce sites would be very helpful and interesting to me.

Schema for Product Categories
We have an E commerce site and we have started to implement Schema's. I've looked around quite a bit but could not find any schema's for product categories. Would there be any schema's to add besides an image, description, & occasional PDF?

Should I use a rel=canonical to the home page
Hi guys, I have a site where the homepage is ranking for the term 'industrial flooring' around position 30 and the actual level 2 industrial flooring page is ranking well below at around position 60. I'm happy for the homepage to rank for this term and would like to see it improve, so here are my questions: 1: Is the existence of the level 2 page preventing the homepage from ranking higher due to keyword cannibalization etc.? 2: Would the use of the rel=canonical tag pointing from the level 2 page to the home page have a positive or negative impact on the homepage's rankings for 'industrial flooring'? 3: Is there anything else I'm missing? Greatly appreciated.

Rich snippets not appearing in SERP
We implemented rich snippets for People listings about 2 months ago, and they haven't shown up in SERPs yet. I followed all of the advice listed here, and everything seems to be working and being crawled correctly. I'm not sure what else to try at this point. Here is an example page that should be showing snippets: Â http://www.travelleaders.com/travel_agent/Agent-Details.aspx?id=6982 Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How should I handle pagination on an e-commerce site?
I am looking at one of our category pages and it has 25 additional pages for a total of 26 pages. The url for the first page looks good, then the next one ends with ?SearchText=768&SearchType=Category All additional pages have the same url. My first concern was duplicate content, but after looking no pages after the 1st are even indexed. What is the best way to handle this?

Permanently using 301 for internal link
Hello Folks, Tried going through the 301 answers but could not find any question similar to what I had. The issue we have is we have got a listing page with the products like this: /used-peugeot/used-toyota-corolla As you can see this URL is not really ideal and I want to redirect it to /used-toyota/corolla using mod_rewrite. The redirect will be 301. My concern here is the URL in the listing page won't change to /used-toyota/corolla and hence the 301 will be 'permanently' placed and I was wondering if this will lose some link juice of the 301ed URL. Now with 301 being a 'permanent' redirect one would assume it should not be an issue but I just wanted to be sure that I am correct in assuming so. Thank you for your time.

New, Used, Refurbished Ecommerce Products
I'm in a situation where I am trying to improve an ecommerce site that sells about 10-15 products, and a few variations of each. My main headache is coming from the fact that we sell New, used, and refurbished products that are often overlapping. I'm not really sure if I am categorizing the products/structuring the site the best possible way. Here is an example that shows the current structure of the site: New Fruits

--> Bananas

 ----> Banana Model 2
--> Apples
 ----> Apple Model 1

--> OrangesÂ
 ----> Orange Model 1
 ----> Orange Model 2 Refurbished Fruits --> Bananas
 ----> Refurbished Banana
--> Apples
 ----> Refurbished Apple
--> OrangesÂ
 ----> Refurbished Orange The business, however, specializes in the refurbished models because they make significantly more money for each one that is sold. Because of this, it's way more important to get the refurbished models ranking up for the terms. I've been struggling to get good results from my SEO efforts and I think that this strange site structure could be holding me back. Would it make sense for me to use canonical on the "New Fruits" pages, pointing toward the "Refurbished Fruits" pages? Should I be trying to build links to the category pages or the actual product pages. IE: To "Refurbished Fruits --> Bananas" rather than "Refurbished Fruits --> Bananas --> Refurbished Banana?"0
