Using rich snippets with a CMS?
-
My site uses the webEdition CMS that is split between templates and documents (pages). A template responsible for a number of documents. If I wish to use rich snippets, how and where can I add the microdata as I can't do it on a page per page basis?
My CMS documentation and its developer forum doesn't give any information on this but I'm hoping its a common problem for open source CMS's and there is an easy fix.
I live in hope!

Hi Iain,
First of all, there are 3 types of rich snippets markup formatting:
- Microdata
- Microformats
- RDFa
Now Google says on their Rich Snippets page that they recommend the first one (Microdata)
In your case, in order to have apply the rich snippets you will need to edit the templates of your CMS.
For example if you want to add the review for a page you will mark-up the correct dynamic code that displays your reviews.
I am not really familiar with webEdition, but if you need help, shoot me a private message and we'll figure it out together, ok?
Greetings,
Istvan
btw: the example from Google's people rich snippet
My name is Bob Smith, but people call me Smithy. Here is my home page: [www.example.com](http://www.example.com). I live in Albuquerque, NM and work as an engineer at ACME Corp. My friends: [Darryl](http://darryl-blog.example.com), [Edna](http://edna-blog.example.com)
it should look like:
``` My name is Bob Smith, but people call me Smithy. Here is my homepage: [www.example.com](http://www.example.com). I live in Albuquerque, NM and work as an engineer at ACME Corp. My friends: [Darryl](http://darryl-blog.example.com), [Edna](http://edna-blog.example.com) ``` ``` Now your job, in order to have it with your CMS is to find the code that outputs this and mark-up the code itself with correct microdata information.
If you use canonicals do the meta descriptions need to be different?
For example, we have 3 different subsites with the same pages. We will put canonicals so they reference the main pages. Do the meta descriptions have to be different for each of the three pages? How does Google handle meta data when using canonicals?
Should I use canonicals? Best practice?
Hi there, I've been working on a pretty dated site. The product pages have tabs that separate the product information, e.g., a tab for specifications, a tab for system essentials, an overview tab that is actually just a copy of the product page. Each tab is actually a link to a completely separate page, so product/main-page is split into product/main-page/specs, product/main-page/resources, etc. Wondering if canonicals would be appropriate in this situation? The information isn't necessarily duplicate (except for the overview tabs) but with each tab as a separate page, I would imagine that's diluting the value of the main page? The information all belongs to the main page, shouldn't it be saying "I'm a version of the main page"?
Use of Location Folders
I'd like to understand the pro's and con's of using a location subfolder as an SEO strategy (example: http://sqmedia.us/Dallas/content-marketing.html), where the /Dallas folder is holding all of my keyword rich page titles. The strategy is to get local-SEO benefits from the use of the folder titled /Dallas (a folder which is unnecessary in the over all structure of this site), but how much is this strategy taking away from the page-title keyword effectiveness?
Using Sitemap Generator - Good/Bad?
Hi all I recently purchased the full licence of XML Sitemap Generator (http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/standalone-google-sitemap-generator.html) but have yet used it. The idea behind this is that I can deploy the package on each large e-commerce website I build and the sitemap will be generated as often as I set it be and the search engines will also be pinged automatically to inform them of the update. No more manual XML sitemap creation for me! Now it sounds great but I do not know enough about pinging search engines with XML sitemap updates on a regular basis and if this is a good or bad thing? Can it have any detrimental effect when the sitemap is changing (potentially) every day with new URLs for products being added to the site? Any thoughts or optinions would be greatly appreciated. How can I use a keyword based domain to rank for my existing site?
Hi everyone, From my understanding if your keywords are in your domain name it can help you rank for the keyword. My site www.pixelchefs.com was affected from the latest Google Algorithm changes, as I used my main site as a testing ground for all my back linking. Our site was a single page with Jquery slide, late February the same time with the Google algo changes we uploaded our new site, larger site with lots of pages and info. Result of that was that home page has PR3 and all other pages PR0. Well I don't really depend on Google for any work as most of my work comes from referrals.......but While searching for names for my private page I came across the domain name www.DesignOrlando.com, The specific keyword gets 22,210 view per month according to Google analytics and also contains part of the keyword for all the keywords I am after. I want to use the domain name for my main site but i am not sure what is the best way to forward the domain so Google can start reading my site as DesignOrlando.com Any Suggestions will be very appreciated.
If two websites pull the same content from the same source in a CMS, does it count as duplicate content?
I have a client who wants to publish the same information about a hotel (summary, bullet list of amenities, roughly 200 words + images) to two different websites that they own. One is their main company website where the goal is booking, the other is a special program where that hotel is featured as an option for booking under this special promotion. Both websites are pulling the same content file from a centralized CMS, but they are different domains. My question is two fold: • To a search engine does this count as duplicate content? • If it does, is there a way to configure the publishing of this content to avoid SEO penalties (such as a feed of content to the microsite, etc.) or should the content be written uniquely from one site to the next? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
