How do I figure out which keyword to optimize for?
-
What's up guys!
We run a site for tennis players and courts in the whole country - http://www.tennisround.com/. People use the site to find a tennis partner at their skill level and send each other invites to set up matches, it's also used to find local tennis courts.
The question is - Which keyword(s) should we optimize the site for and how?
Cheers,
Alex

I think your design looks great!

Thanks Stephen! What do you mean by "make your design higher quality and less spammy"? Is there anything that could be considered spam by the users or the engines?
-
Nice... I went to the site and it recognized my geographic location and showed nearby tennis courts.
I would optimize for "tennis courts in Philadelphia" and similar local geographic terms.
However, I think that there would be a lot of potential for advertising via site targeted adwords or targeting tennis players on Facebook.

"find a tennis partner" "tennis partner" "tennis court" "book tennis court" "tennis competition"
You are in the same position as many startups; there is not really any search volume for what you do as its so new and you need to build your audience from the ground up
You may rather wish to put your energy into social media and direct connections with tennis clubs (so make you twitter/facebook bigger with CTAs, and get rid of myspace ) Maybe Linkedin actually works well with this idea
I would suggest soft url hijacking of tennis club names. To that end, this url needs a hell of a lot more content http://www.tennisround.com/tennis-courts/tx/austin/lost-creek-country-club I would go out to the clubs or get them to send you images and video and any specials and competitions they may run
Also make your design higher quality and less spammy, then you will appear miles ahead of crap like this

http://www.tennispartner.co.uk/
http://www.globaltennisnetwork.com/tennis-community/find-a-tennis-partner
From experience working with a startup, its easy enough to get traffic and signups, but getting actual engaged users is the real key to success. The 3 sites above may get organic traffic, but who comes back a second time?

Try to think about words and phrases that sum up what your site aims to achieve. Then look at doing the following:
-
find out what your top compeititors are trying to optimize for
-
using Google adwords to get keyword suggestions
Although I do tend to select keyword to optimize when I undertake a campaign, I'll usually let a lot of the keywords be dictated in a natural way (e.g by natural backlinks). Usually I''ll focus on building the link profile and domain authority so that ranking for a variety of keywords becomes easy.

Keyword Over-usage?
I have a photography page, where there are a number of galleries. In the galleries and thumbnails of each photo I'm selling. These also include the title. It's built dynamically. However, I've noticed when I do an on-page grade check, that one of the places I'm failing is over-using the keyword on the page. This is mainly due to the titles of each photo containing that keyword. For example, there might be a photo gallery for images of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and 30 of the 40 images on the page have a title with "Golden Gate Bridge" in them. So naturally, the title is displaying this on the page and showing up 30+ times (after the term is used in the page text as well). Is this a really big problem, or is the benefit on each individual photo page outweighing any hit on the gallery page? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Keywords in SEO Moz versus Keywords on pages
II'm a little confused by how the SEO Moz keywords relate to our page keywords. Should all the keywords we put in SEO Moz be in our page keywords? Can our SEO Moz keywords span the kepywords of severla pages or do we need ot tighten up and only use 5 for example keywords in SEO Moz and on our pages? Thanks!

Is 15 keywords enough to properly optimize content for an entire domain?
I have recently moved in charge of a 95 page web portal that has around 8 categories of content. The SEO agency I am touch with has sent me a proposal that says they will do on-page optimization for this domain for 15 keywords. Should that be enough? What should be my expected outcome? My promise to the client is that core pages from his website will show up early on the SERPs. If they can do this, I am fine with it. Do you think I am getting the right deal? Should I be asking for more?

Press Release Title Optimization
I'm getting ready to distribute a press release on PRWeb and had a question regarding the proper way to optimize the headline. Should I use our targeted keywords or our brand in the headline? We don't have a really strong brand, we are not a very well know company throughout the business world. The choices would read like this: "Maker of Blue Widgets Receives Pretigous [big company name] Award" or "[Brand Name] Receives Prestigious [big company name] Award" Any thoughts? Thanks -Brandon

Local Keyword Strategy
Good morning! I'm working on building out a new website for a regional insurance agency specializing in auto insurance for high risk drivers (ex. Tickets, Accidents, Dui's, etc.). Due to the competitive nature of our industry, I believe it is best to focus on very localized long tail keywords, instead of broad terms I don't have any chance of ranking for. Our keyword research indicates that there is an opportunity to optimize and potentially rank for keywords that include geographic modifiers for towns and cities within a roughly 50 mile radius. The problem is, there is only so much you can say about auto insurance. On the one hand, I would like to have individual landing pages for each keyword phrase. On the other hand, I don't want to look manipulative to Google or hurt user experience by creating a bunch of pages with relatively similar content. Can anyone offer some advice on how I can structure the site/content to optimize for each geographic modifier without having lots of pages that are very similar? Thank you!

Keyword Difficulty Score Assesment
What is a good keyword difficulty score to pursue when deciding which keywords to try and rank on? I'm in a very competitive field and I am currently in the process of doing keyword research to look for the low hanging fruit.
