SEO Company that bills on results?
-
After having bad experiences with a few seo and ppc companies, I would like to find a company that operates on the premise that they should get paid for producing results instead just for signing a contract.
I'm not thinking that any payment is contingent results but that a large portion of the billing is. I also know that it can take several months to get to an seo goal so I'm not taking a "you have one month to fix our site or we don't pay" approach.
Is there a company out there that has enough confidence in their white-hat processes that they actually back their services with some sort of guarantee?

Thank you all for your assistance on this. I was never looking for a guarantee of placement, more for a guarantee of a growth in organic traffic that could be traced to something they did.
I realize that placement these days varies by user so a promise of #1 ranking really is suspicious.

You will find that those companies that "produce results" will provide some form of shady metrics or guarantees. Let's be honest - choose any set of long tail words - the more obscure the better, and anyone on this forum can get you to no1 on Google. It's not difficult, but equally, it's not ethical or useful.
As has been recommended, either go for a company that is highly recommend or be prepared to offer a budget that will make the difference.

what they need to be doing to win the online battle.
This is really true and I have been very guilty.
Some of the biggest mistakes that I have made are..... Not betting on myself.

All of the responses here are good, but we also want to throw out the fact that as a company, do you know if your brand is a successful brand. We can all come up with ideas for companies but are they really money making worthy.
We have people who have worked on both sides of the coin, agency and in-house and I can say as an agency person, I see a lot of people who are afraid of really doing what they need to be doing to win the online battle. How are you marketing to your clients currently? Are you knocking on doors? Is your business even really marketing online?
-
Any marketing program is an investment with inherent risk. By requesting pay for performance, you are basically shifting the risk from the business owner to the service provider but not providing a strong enough return for that risk. If you are looking for a way to reduce your risk, you could ask friends and colleagues for a referral to a provider that has done great work in the past. I don't think any quality SEO companies would take the unnecessary risk because they will have more business then they can handle due to referrals from happy clients.

Asking an SEO company to accept "payment for results" is asking them to accept your business risk.
In most good money niches your competitors are not sitting on their ass. That makes SEO a "battle of resources". Your competitor throws more money at it and you must throw more money at it and the battle escalates just like Crocodile Dundee and the knife.
Lots of webmasters go into a fight without the proper knife because they limited their SEOs budget. He applies pressure, competitors respond and defeat is assured.
So, if you want the rankings be prepared to pay for the attack and then be willing to pay for an escalation... and then there is the most dangerous competitor of all - the one who has yet to arrive.
I think that most good SEOs have gotten their ass kicked at least one time and they know not to accept pay for results contracts.

I would especially avoid SEO companies that guarantee placement. No one can guarantee that and no reuputable SEO company will. Google's algorithm is always changing. If they do guarantee first page placement they are most likely talking about PPC or lying to you.

Webjaguar SEO shortcomings
Hey All. I have a client whose ecommerce site is build in Webjaguar. Does anyone have experience with this platform. It appears to be loaded with technical SEO challenges (duplicate content, weird URLs, etc). Interestingly, when I Google "webjaguar SEO challenges" and things like that....nothing comes up. Suspicious, methinks. I appreciate any thoughts from SEO folks. Thanks!

What can you do about negative SEO?
We have a list of 240 domains (look exactly the same) linking to our site for a certain keyword. over 3000 links in total. It means that 50% of our keywords are this keyword and it's not a branded keyword which can affect us in the long term. I have done a WHOIS search and found a name, email and number. Vikas Kumar. I linkedin searched him and found his "legit" SEO site which has EXACTLY the same registration details as the spam sites. I emailed him and he said it would cost 5$ a link removal. I phoned him and he DENIED these emails. He then denied owning these sites etc. We have disavowed them but the anchor text % is still affecting us. Is there anything we can do? I know negative SEO isn't illegal but it's really frustrating. Anyone else had any problems with this type of thing?

Is it Possible to Optimize Another Company Name/Product for Organic Results?
We have a potential new client seeking to rank organically for a company name and brand product who have left the market (still in business as they are a massive medical company, but just moved away from selling this one specific product) and my new client has since picked up their slack and slowly a couple others have entered the market over the past 5 years with different products. My client's product is a direct replacement/alternative to the other product, actually, it's the same, just had to be renamed/rebranded. They are wondering how to get their website ranked for that company and branded product name to show in Google SERPs organically without being slapped with a cease and desist order. We know they can do it for PPC, but how for organic results since we need the content within the site pages or tags. Any suggestions or real life experiences would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to reading your feedback. Patrick

SEO for interior page
Is it possible to be penalized on an interior page but not the whole website? Here's why I ask, I have a page: www.thesandiegocriminallawyer.com/domestic-violence.html that is not ranking well (p. 21 of Google) while the rest of the site ranks well (b/w p.1 to p.3). I checked the link profile in opensiteexplorer, ahrefs, and majesticseo but can't find any problems. I have also checked the HTML code, CSS, keyword optimization, but can't find any problems there either. Can anyone give me insight into why this might be happening? Of course, I'm working under the assumption that this page SHOULD be ranked higher for "San Diego Domestic Violence Attorney" - at least higher than page 21.

Domain expiration and seo
My domain name is free with my service with yahoo but it expires every year and gets extended automatically as I continue service, how does this impact my seo efforts? I've heard that the search engines prefer sites to expire in 3 years or more? Is this a fact?

Temporarily Delist Search Results
We have a client that we run campaign sites for. They have asked us to turn off our PPC and SEO in the short term so they can run some tests. PPC no problem straight forward action, but not as straight forward to just turn off SEO. Our campaign site is on Page 1, Position 4, 3 places below our clients site. They have asked us to effectively disappear from the landscape for a period of 1-2 months. Has anyone encountered this before, the ability to delist good SERP for a period of time? Details: Very small site with only 17 pages indexed within google, but home page has good SERP result. My issues are, How to approach this in the most effective manor? Once the delisting process is activated and the site/page disappears, then we reverse the process will we get back to where we were? Anyone encountered this before? I realise this is a ridiculous question and goes against SEO logic, get to page 1 results only to remove it, but hey, clients are always presenting new challenges for us to address..... Thanks

Slooooow motion SEO impact
I could do with some help if anyone's got a minute. We've got this one client, no matter what we did (and we worked very hard on this site), nothing would really move. You'd get the usual fluctuations, and maybe some very small progress at times. This went on for an age... much, much longer than usual (and it wasn't even that competitive for keywords). Then suddenly, "Bam!" it shot up like a rocket for all it's main keywords and has stayed there since... more or less (and this was over a year ago). It was as if all the work we'd been doing was building up behind a door and then the door flew open so it could take affect. Anyway... it seems to be happening again, just to a different client with a different website (at least I hope that's what's happening or it might just stay non-affected by anything we do forever). We've checked everything. There's no crawling problems, again it's not all that competitive, the site already has some pretty good trust and authority, and it already ranks well for a bunch of stuff. The site and pages have plenty of age behind them too. Any ideas?
