Is this section still being used?

I wasn't sure about the quality of some of them (ex. porn chat). I've seen better lists of directories!
-
Ok, that makes a lot more sense now! If you do see errors though, drop us a line. Here's a post we did when we updated the directory last year that can also help give you some context. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/web-directory-submission-danger
-
Oops, that was "chart porn" not "porn chat".
-
We do maintain that list, and updated it in the past few months. Could you drop the help team a note (help at seomoz dot org) and let them know about the porn chat directory you saw? That's not the type of thing we would include on purpose!
-
From what I can tell, it is maintained; however, I believe the value of Web directories in general has fallen tremendously. Additionally, I feel like some of the sites on the list are low quality.
That's my two cents

Paid Subscription Directory with Low Moz Open Site Explorer Spam Score
Looking at different backlinks of my competitors and came across a few directories that require a 1 time payment for the year. Â Is this considered the same as paying for a link or would this be considered something like getting a listing on your local Chamber of Commerce site? Also, I put the site through Moz's Open Site Explorer and it had PA:22 and DA:20, which is nothing incredible, but also had a spam score of 2. So would a site like this hurt my rankings? I know that's a good spam score, so I am a little confused with what to do. Here is the site:Â http://scl-online.net/en.htm Thanks for any help! Love this site.

Getting two BOTW.org listings? Regular drirectory + blog directory?
I have a start-up website. It's a niche market that's not all that competitive. I'm trying to get going with some basic link building, and I'm trying to focus for the time being on some recommended directories: BOTW, yahoo, business.com, etc. I already have a regular BOTW directory listing, accepted a few days ago. I'm wondering if it's worth also getting a BOTW blog directory listing? So two BOTW listings, the first pointing to the homepage, the second would point to the blog. If there is meaningful link juice to be passed, would there be an advantage of having two links? Or will the one I already have suffice? Also, since the site is new, I only have a few blog posts. Is BOTW likely to reject me because my blog is too thin? The posts I have are content-heavy (1000-2500 words per entry), but there's just not a large total quantity yet. Normally I wouldn't consider it, but they're having a cyber-monday sale today where it's 50% off the regular price, so it makes the decision easier. Thanks.

Are reputable local directories effective link building resources for high rankings in local search?
I'm working on a local search campaign. Generally, the first thing I do is add the site to all of the local directories that I know of. I'm curious, with penguin updates, whether or not this is still an effective strategy for local search.

Should I abandon directories?
To say I'm new to SEO would be an understatement.  I am heading up marketing for a firm and they have zero web presence.  I've used Alexa.com to check out our competition and one site in particular has about 150 sites linking to it.  I dove in deeper and created a spreadsheet.  The majority of these links are sketchy, paid directory listings (or what look sketchy to me).  The confusing part is, they rank first on Google when I search for industry keywords.  Is it because of these directories?  Should I follow them or avoid them completely? I'm planning on creating content and pushing that out to reputable industry sites.  I figured getting links/mentions from these would help SEO.  Should I only target these high value sites or would submitting articles to the directories with "article" sections offer any assistance? It seems as though my SEO knowledge is limited to less-than admirable tactics, although not by choice.  I am planning to dive into paid search in the coming weeks but wanted to know of any "ground work" I could do aside from pushing content and paid search.  It seems like there are 1,000's of these paid directory sites and I find it hard to believe they will offer me a benefit...it's just the competition is on them and something is working.  Sorry this is so remedial, but I need to figure out where to go!

Back to Basics: Article Directories :)
Does anyone do this? I don't any more but what I used to do is: Find 20 article directories I thought were good, register to all and note down in a excel sheet. Generate 1 article (500 words) and make a byline to go with it containing my anchor text link. I would then systematically go through my excel sheet submitting my article to each one. 2 weeks later repeat the process. This is something I used to do a few years ago but stopped because it was duplicate content across the directories but I think I was probably going about it the wrong way. Anyone?

List of High Ranking Directories
Hi, Does anyone have a list of high ranking free or almost free directories that have high search engine rankings and have an opportunity for a link or links for a personal development site in the USA? The directories should have the following qualities: Old Site Age A lot of unique content (or as much as a directory can have) A clean site Plenty of Backlinks going to it Facebook followers (if possible, though this might be stretching it) high search engine rankings I think you get the general idea. I'm looking for directories that are high ranking and in for the long haul. They don't have to be free, but it's best if it's inexpensive. Thanks!

Asking other websites to link your website when the want to be in your directory
Hello, We have 3 web directories, and I wonder if it is legal for search engines to ask people who want to be in the directory to link to a particular website in order to be in our directory. I mean, it is free adding the url in the directory but if they lwant to be in the directory they have to ink to a website we have decided.
