Tag archives in wordpress
-
I have duplicate content issue on my site, because i allow to index tags in my wordpress. And the content overlaps on them. What could be a solution to this?
How do i fight it, if still want my tag pages to be indexed in Google, but i don't want to to influence my traffic negatively?
Currently i have 596 tags!
Site:
richclubgirl.comMy idea was to put canonical tag for the post i want to rank from the most popular tag pages (with biggest page authority).
Would love to hear from You!

That's exactly right!

So the best solution would be:
noindex,follow
and allow it in robots.txt!Am i right?
And is it okay that my Wordpress SEO plugin puts rel=canonical on tag pages?
See example:

About half of tags are actually one-post tags!
So what could be the best practice? To no-index tag pages? Some of the tag pages have good page authority and they are linked well (with internal links). Cleaning up tags would be a very tough task, i suppose!
Or may be i should no-index only one-post tags?

"... if still want my tag pages to be indexed in Google, but i don't want to to influence my traffic negatively?"
Don't forget to consider how much value landing on a tag page gives to a site visitor (clue: usually none). It's all very well indexing and ranking for some extremely long tail term via tags, but what's the human who lands on in going to make of it? (Most likely contribute to that page's 100% bounce rate).
By all means keep tags, and use them consistently to categorise your posts, but as a means of keyword stuffing (as I'd suspect it is with nigh on 600 tags), the time is long since past
Good luck!

I wouldn't add a canonical from a Tag archive to a post (especially if there are multiple posts in the Tag archive).
The SEO value of Tags (and Categories) comes from them creating a hierarchy in your site as well as creating relevancy signals between all of the posts that appear in that Tag archive. If you have 596 tags and there are tons that only have 1 post in them then those one post Tags aren't helping you. You may need to consider cleaning up your tags, checking traffic and ranking for your tags, re-tagging posts to the most relevant tag with good traffic and/or rankings, deleting the useless non-relevant tags, and placing 301 redirects from the removed Tags to relevant tags.
We're currently going through the same steps on one of the sites I work for but in our case there are only 274 tags to deal with.

H1 Tags the same as Title Tags and other meta questions
I run an ecom store that has about 800 live products. When everything got set up, no one set up the title tags correctly. So I am going through to update them in bulk. What I was going to do was to take the product name (which serves as the H1 tag), use that with a postfix | CompanyName. If length is an issue I trim it down. But the question is, will having essentially duplicate information in here be an issue? Also, when someone was setting up meta descriptions, they often used basically the product name or a half sentence. Would it be better to remove the descriptions and allow google to decide? I even had some that were literally just the brand name of the product, which I already removed.

Wordpress question
I was curious when i run an OSE report on certain websites and their name.wordpress.com shows up with a PA of whatever and a DA of 100. But when I created my wordpress site and post on it, it only has a PA and DA of 1. is this because SEOmoz has not indexed it yet? Index or Noindex Wordpress Categories?
I've read a few different opinions on this, but I'm still unclear as to the best practice. I use my categories more like tags. Let's say I write a post about about seo, local marketing, and indexing. I would use the categories "seo"+"marketing"+"indexing". Therefore, that same post will show up in all three category pages. If these category pages are all set to be indexed, what impact does that have on my post being indexed? Should I noindex all of the categories except for the main ones to avoid too much duplicate content? Or do you recommend noindexing all of the categories? I know some seo plugins make this easy to do (I'm using Yoast). The only reason I'm hesitant to noindex all categories is because some of them rank well for their subject. I also already tried noindexing about a month ago and lost a lot of blog traffic, so I reversed it. Now some of my category pages have overtaken my post rankings, which makes it harder for the reader to find the content, but my overall blog traffic is back up. With my situation, what is the best thing to do long term? I just started using my blog a lot more so I want to know that I have it setup correctly. Thanks in advance!

One H1 tag Dead Long Live multiple H1 tags?
Good afternoon from 9 degrees C mostly cloudy Wetherby UK, Ive been holding on to the mantra of one h1 tag per page but a developer has challenged me on this by stating you can have multiple h1 tags on the condition the page is HTML 5 & each h1 tag is within its own section or article tag. So the question is do i need to change my tune? Thanks in advance, David

Removing robots.txt on WordPress site problem
Hi..am a little confused since I ticked the box in WordPress to allow search engines to now crawl my site (previously asked for them not to) but Google webmaster tools is telling me I still have robots.txt blocking them so am unable to submit the sitemap. Checked source code and the robots instruction has gone so a little lost. Any ideas please?

Wordpress Category Archives
Wordpress question here. Can anyone tell me if there is an SEO advantage to creating a page filtered to show results from an individual category as opposed to simply linking to the category archive? The content is identical in both cases.

Robots.txt and canonical tag
In the SEOmoz post - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/robot-access-indexation-restriction-techniques-avoiding-conflicts, it's being said - If you have a robots.txt disallow in place for a page, the canonical tag will never be seen. Does it so happen that if a page is disallowed by robots.txt, spiders DO NOT read the html code ?
