Does anyone else get a crazy amount of misdials to your AdWords call extension?
-
Not sure how many people here also do PPC, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.
Since we added a call extension to one of our AdWords campaigns a few months ago, we have gotten a crazy amount of misdials/wrong numbers. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
Here's what happens:
We choose one of the numbers we own, say 888-123-4567, and set it up so it displays ADWORDS on the phone's screen when it rings. This way, our customer service and sales reps will know when they are taking an AdWords call.
We type that number into the call extension settings. AdWords then assigns a different number to us, which will appear on our ads and forward to our number. Say it's 888-234-5678.
Then for months, every "ADWORDS" call we get is someone trying to reach a different company at 888-234-5679 or 888-235-5678. In other words, the number they're trying to dial is one digit off from the number AdWords assigned to us.
When we first reported this to AdWords before Christmas, they simply assigned us a new number. It did not help. Now we just get misdials for different companies.
So are we alone in this wrong-number phenomenon?

I've been using phone extensions for dozens of clients, some generate thousands of calls per month, and I have never experienced this problem. Are you routing ppc calls to a separate phone number? I would investigate your own phone number. How long have you had this number? Are you sure people are misdialing the adwords phone number? .....or could they be misdialing your ppc phone number? Did your phone number previously belong to another company? Try routing your ppc calls to another phone number and see if the problem persists.

Adwords Expanded Text Ads - How are they working for you?
I think it would be nice to get a consensus from more people. The day expanded text ads came out last week, I immediately jumped on it and created them for all my campaigns. I still left some of the old ads running in each ad group so that I could compare. Looking at the conversion data from the last week, the conversion rates are between 2-7x lower on the expanded text ads, and as a result, the cost per conversion is 2-5x higher as well. Basically, they're performing horribly. The click-through rate is mildly higher, but who cares if they're not converting? I know it's only a week's worth of data, but it seems the difference is enough to be statistically significant. I'm wording what everyone else's experience has been.

Adwords enhanced campaigns - Specify alternate destination URLs
Morning Mozzers, I am setting up a new campaign for a client, they would like to target mobile devices which evidently i can no longer do with enhanced campaigns; however i have increased the Mobile bid as much as possible and set the default CPC low to try and minimise appearance in desktop search. The client has a desktop and a mobile version of the destination page but the site will not direct users to the correct page based on their device as they are two separate domains. As such i want to know if i can specify an alternate destination URL for an ad in Adwords based on if the click comes from a mobile or desktop device? The other option is to set all my Ads within the Adgroup to have mobile as the device preference and just use the mobile landing page, but not sure if there is a neater solution here? Thanks, Tom.

Trademarked words in in Google Adwords ads - Why do competitors get to use them?
Hi, The keyword I want to use in my ad is trademarked, so they disqualified my ad. The trademark was specifically cited as the reasoning. I tried this across maybe 5 different ads. All disqualified The thing I don't understand is that there are like 10 other advertisers who are actively using this "trademarked" word in their ads. It's not like 1 scooted past Google, there's a ton of advertisers doing it. So how do I get past them or were they grandfathered in or something? FYI... I tried dynamic insert to see if that could my "trademarked" word in the back door, but no luck. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Competitors using bots for AdWords ?
I was having a discussion with a SEO manager on a LinkedIn group about page speed (she pretends that page speed is not taken into account by Google for SERPs at all and claims that all of what Matt Cutts says is BS) ; and she explained that she is using bots to click on her client's competitors AdWords and "kill their daily budget" So my question is, if you run/manage AdWords campaigns, have you ever met noticed such a behaviour, past the few usual click fraud rate ? What is your average fraud rate ?
