Performing at an American Heart ball fund raiser, how to acquire links with this?

Hello Mozzers! My band is performing for an American Heart Ball in a month and I was wondering if i could get any decent links to my band website being as i am the main entertainment at this event. I'll ask the webmaster who is in charge of the event website for a link but was trying to brain storm on ideas on how to get more links from other sources as many people like to post on their sites supporting these events. Are press release links dead? I see lots of these events announced on prweb and a few other press release websites. any other ideas on how i could garner links from this event?

Hi Mozzers, I work for an IT company specialising in outsourcing Cisco Engineers worldwide. Due to being involved heavily in outsourcing, I'm finding it impossible to generate genuine and organic links to our website. My question is that is it essential to have back links back to our website to achieve high search engine rankings? What is the difference between external followed links and internal followed links.
I have almost 3,000 external links followed and only a tiny amount of internal followed links. My website is doing really badly on google at the mo. I am also an SEO beginner and learning new stuff every day, but am not sure exactly what the difference is! Thanks!

What is the best way to obtain External Links for a website? I have seen using the Open Site Explorer that my url is ahead of most of the competitors in all areas except this one. What is the best method of generating these links, outside of emailing 20K people and asking for a back link? Any suggstions?

How do we measure our link strategy?
We're new to link strategy and would really appreciate any help anyone can give us. We are inviting the top food bloggers (aka "linkerati") in the country to visit and hopefully share web content with us. What we don't know is how to measure the results of this... Does anyone have any suggestions, or perhaps a "dashboard" that they could show us to give us some ideas? All help gratefully received!
