Contact form on home page.
-
I am looking to add a contact form onto my home page and I was wondering if it made sense to change my index.html to an index.php.
If i do make this change, would it have any impact on my search rankings?

If you don't mind doing a little coding you could try this simple contact form
http://css-tricks.com/nice-and-simple-contact-form/
There are other options out there for a full blown contact form from MailChimp et al, although many seem to be trying to get money for what is essentially a really basic thing.
Mail Chimp or Constant Contact is good if all you want is basic email capture, with Mail Chimp offering free services under 2000 subscribers, although it does include a mail chimp link or small logo.
If you Google "html contact form" you'll get lots of options. Personally I would go with Chris Coyier's option above and include his spam options.
If you dont need to change from html to php I would'nt do it. 301s are great but when I changed a site from html with a 301 it didnt pass all the link juice and there was a slight drop in traffic, plus it stop you needlessly complicating it.
If you need help in setting it up let me know

you don't believe it increases the chance a person will fill in the contact page? I'm trying to increase my conversion rates.

It's a basic site.

I would not put a contact form on the homepage, maybe a link to the contact page.

Depending on the platform and depending on the contact form you either dont need php, or you can just output html files with an SEO/SEF plugin.
Is it a basic site or one with a cms?
-
Would it also help if Joel put a canonical on the new index.php page?

I'm a big fan of putting some kind of contact form or at least a call-to-action on every single page of your site, so great idea. Anyways, that's not your question, so if you need to switch to index.php in order for your form to work, then go ahead and do so. But make sure you 301 redirect index.html to index.php since search engines will consider them to be two different pages. I am assuming your site is hosted on a Linux server with access to .htaccess so you should be able to accomplish this by adding the following lines to the .htaccess -
RewriteEngine on RewriteRule index\.html index.php [NC,R]

Facebook is now only allowing owners of FB pages (not admins) to create keys for a WP blog post syndication. Is there a way around this?
I hired a contractor to configure a WP plugin to syndicate FB, G+, Twitter and standard WP posts. He is using NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster. He came back to me saying that FB is now only allowing direct owners (not admins) of FB pages to create keys. This means I have to give my client's personal FB access to a third party contractor. I'm not comfortable asking my client to do this. Does anybody know of a way around this? Is there a way to create a FB key with just admin access? Thanks

Should Our Mobile Responsive Version of our Ecommerce Site include the on Page content to Help with Rankings
Hello All, We are soon to launch our new redesigned website along with a mobile responsive version but i have noticed we currently don't include the on page Content we have on the mobile version which we have on the desktop version to help with rankings etc. I am not sure how google does mobile research with regards to rankings. We have designed our responsive version to be as user friendly as possible at the expense of having to much clutter/content but I am wondering now , if we will rank on mobile if all our on page content isn't present. Just wondered if we should include it at the bottom of the pages with say a "Read more" extension to help avoid clutter? Any advice greatly appreciated thanks Pete

Does an age verification home page hurt SEO?
There's a microbrewery in our area that just launched its first website. It has the "verify your age" homepage (which is not really their homepage, but I don't know what it's called) before you can enter. It looks like this: http://angrychairbrewing.com/ Anyway, does this hurt them at all from a rankings standpoint? Also, assuming bots/spiders/ROGER can crawl sites like this, (which I think they would have to be able to do) how do they get around this verification? Thanks, Ruben

Should i not use hyphens in web page titles? Google Penalty for hyphens?
all the page titles in my site have hyphens between the words like this: http://texas.com/texas-plumbers.html I have seen tests where hyphenated domain names ranked lower than non hyphenated domain names. Does this mean my pages are being penalized for hyphens or is this only in the domain that it is penalized? If I create new pages should I not use hyphens in the page titles when there are two or more words in the title? If I changed all my page titles to eliminate the hyphens, I would lose all my rankings correct? My site is 12 years old and if I changed all these titles I'm guessing that each page would be thrown in the google sandbox for several months, is this true? Thanks mozzers!

Will changing product from Grouped to Simple on my magento category page affect my SEO?
Hi all, A category page on my site http://www.porcelainsuperstore.co.uk/wood-effect.html currently ranks number 3 on Google for the keyword "Wood Effect Tiles" We're currently reorganising some of our product and I would like to know if this is going to affect the SEO and ranking for the above page and keyword. The majority of products on that page are magento grouped products. I would like to change the page so that it displays only the different constituent simple products rather than the grouped products on the category page. My question is, will this have any impact on SEO? I intend on leaving all other data on the category page the same - so the metadata and the description/title etc. Any help/comments would be much appreciated! Ben

Using a query string for linked, static landing pages - is this good practice?
My company has a page with links for each of our dozen office locations as well as a clickable map. These offices are also linked in the footer of every page along with their phone number. When one of these links is clicked, the visitor is directed to a static page with a picture of the office, contact information, a short description, and some other information. The URL for these pages is displayed as something like http:/example.com/offices.htm?office_id=123456, with seemingly random ID numbers at the end depending on the office that remain static. I know first off that this is probably bad SEO practice, as the URL should be something like htttp://example.com/offices/springfield/ My question is, why is there a question mark in the page URL? I understand that it represents a query string, but I'm not sure why it's there to begin with. A search query should not required if they are just static landing pages, correct?. Is there any reason at all why they would be queries? Is this an issue that needs to be addressed or does it have little to no impact on SEO?

Why is this page removed from Google & Bing indices?
This page has been removed from indices at Bing and Google, and I can't figure out why. http://www.pingg.com/occasion/weddings This page used to be in those indices There are plenty of internal links to it The rest of the site is fine It's not blocked by meta robots, robots.txt or canonical URL There's nothing else to suggest that the page is being penalized
