Press Releases - duplicate content
-
Does anybody know if Google makes allowances for duplicate content from press releases? If you submit a press release to a press release distribution service, does it have to be different?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Here are two strategies for dealing with dupe content and press releases
a) write an article for your site about the news, and write a second article which is the same topic but different wording (not spinning) and use that article for submitting as the press releases, link in the release to your first press release article URL on your site
b) write a press release and post it on your site and get it indexed. use the same press release but not the entire press release - cut it a little short and include a "read more for the full story" link that links to the full press release content on your site
I prefer option a but it takes more time to write two articles, still i think the benefit is worth it.

The best way I have found to do link building with press releases is to give the journalists the facts of a story not a finished article, give them the statistics from your research or the findings of the servery you are talking about and let them write the story.
There us a good discussion on this topic at http://www.seomoz.org/q/pr-releases-do-they-help-your-seo
I hope that helps

As far as i Know this is mainly ignored by google (unless you starting to do this on a large scale and then it will back-fire) and a waste of your time.
If you think you will get some referral traffic from those then it make sense but you better have those links with a no follow. (however, base don past experience with this type of services I doubt that there are good sites in those networks).
If you do this for link building - note everything down as you might need the information later on when you are hit by an un-natural link manual action and you will need to hunt those links down
Just my opinion - hope it helps.

How much 'ranking power' would a link from a privacy policy page of a Big Brand have if the site content is totally unrelated?
Let's say that Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If Site A links from their privacy policy page to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings for Site B given that the content is totally unrelated and it's a link from a privacy policy? I’m asking if the work to get clients/partners do this help. I have a hypothetical question for you all! Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If site A links from their privacy policy to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings? I’m asking if the work to get clients/partners do this help.

When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building, is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it?
When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building (i.e. pushing out content that my client has created), is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it? Or should I create a landing page with the whitepaper included on it? I’m not sure if the client will be ok with this b/c I know they use the whitepaper for sales purposes to gain leads. For example, my pitch email would include a line such as this, "the whitepaper can be found at LINK and I'd love if you could share it with your readers." I think it may be weird/a little wrong to ask a webmaster to include a link on his site to a landing page with a form to get the whitepaper. Does this make sense? What have others done with whitepapers as Push Content for link building?

Is it a good idea to create a blog that offers quality content but also passes PageRank to sponsors
I am a part of a business networking group that has lots of members who services home owners (a/c repair, plumber, home inspector, etc.). I am thinking of starting a blog to help home owners be better informed how to care for their homes. I would like to ask for sponsorship from the people in my group. I would also like to invite them to post on the blog as a way to improve their SEO. Would posting on this kind of blog hurt, help or not affect their SEO? Would this violate Google's policy of selling links that pass page rank as described here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en.

Press Release, yay or nay?
Hi guys, I've got an ecommerce client who has asked if we should generate a press release when they add a new range of products/add a new brand? Is this a good idea? Do we just publish it on their blog or do we send it our to PR websites to distribute with links back to the site. I don't want it to be spammy, just announcing a new brand. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Links from PRWeb press release violate Google's quality guidelines?
My site has had a manual action performed on it by Google indicating that I have inbound links that fall outside of their quality guidelines. I did my own research, found what I thought was the issue, had the links removed and requested reconsideration. Google's response surprised me in that they highlighted two specific pages with links that were the direct result of valid press releases and a publisher picking up our release off a wire service. Has anyone else seen this occur? Anyone had a case successfully reconsidered? I realize that I don't need to do anything at all as the manual action is in effect and will stay that way, discounting those links, but I would rather a) not have any manual action against my site and b) know for the future so this doesn't happen again. Also, is this applicable for guest blog posts, which effectively create the same type of backlinks? Thanks

Is this a good way to create engaging content?
Hi all, I believe this is my first question in this forum, so be nice 🙂 I am an SEO consultant who has recently gone out and started my own SEO consultancy. Obviously, I now find myself in a place where I am trying to create good content for my website visitors. Maybe it's link bait, or more than likely it's a way to hold myself up as an expert in the industry, while providing visitors to my site some reason to keep on coming back. As I love whiteboard Friday, I did consider - and I'm not ruling it out in the future - creating my own whiteboard Friday videos discussing the SEO issues I was focussing on. In the meantime, I am thinking of posting up SEOmoz's whiteboard Friday videos and then making my own comments and insights for my website visitors. So, what I really wanted to ask - do you guys think this is a good idea, a valid way of creating good content and has merit/credibility? http://www.nustudio.com.au/local-seo-the-basics/ contains an example of what I am talking about. Cheers, Steve

Sell content - will it be duplicate?
Hi, We are on the verge of selling some of our content articles to a business partner. But my concern is about the content appearing severeal places on the web. It will most likely be labelled as duplicate content. The articles have links to our site, so link building-wise it would be great to benefit from these. What would the best solution be? 1. If I ask the partner to set pages to noindex - google will not label it as duplicate content. 2. If the partner sets the pages with a canonical link to our page, will this be okay SEO wise? -Rasmus

Duplicate content how bad is it?
I have a magento webshop and some of products have more than one link. E.g. wolverine apprentice it has these two links http://www.urbanclothing.dk/maerker-1/wolverine/wolverine-apprentice-6-tan-mens.html and http://www.urbanclothing.dk/wolverine-apprentice-6-tan-mens.html Is that going to ruin my chances on ranking high on Google? If yes what should I do about it ? And was does Linking Root Domains and Page Authority mean? I fount it under the keyword ranking section.
