Subdomain, Subdirectory or New Site?
-
Hi, we are currently exploring a new business sideline to our normal business (we are an emergency property & auto locksmith service). Our site has been established since 2005 (ish) - lockcity.co.uk
The new sideline will also be another roadside emergency service but has nothing to do with keys/locks. In our marketing, we will be explaining that our new service is a trademark of Lock City, which will help customers understand why a Lock City van will be arriving.
It doesn't make sense for us to have another page on the lock city web site to advertise this service, so wondered if you can recommend if I make a sub domain or create a new site?
I understand that I am starting again with a new site, so the subdomain seems more favourable at the moment - but will this leak link juice from our existing business?
Looking forward to some expert advice! Many thanks
Regards, Abi

Just another thought if you dont mind pls .... although the new service is not connected to locks and keys, its still a roadside recovery service as is our existing auto locksmith service - so there is a slight connection in that we offer a emergency roadside service -
Bearing this in mind I think you are right in that a new site is best. In addition to a new site, does it make sense to have a landing page for the new service on the lockcity web site for google searches, but not have it linked into the menu? i.e. lock city customers cannot see the new page from the menu, but if people land on the new page through the search engines, they can still navigate around the locksmith site?
Thanks, Abi

If this new line of business is going to be a separate entity of the business, then get a new site. However, if it is related to your current business model, do not do a subdomain. Add your business to your main menu and then create it as such (ex: locksity.co.uk/newbusiness/newcontent)
Doing a subdomain is archaic and not really looked upon favorably, you will end up splitting your link juice. By doing it this way, you will be adding more content to your site overall and increase the backlinks (if linked correctly) of your website. This is how I would recommend you do it. I hope that helps.

Is there a Rapportive Workaround with the new gmail compose
Hello, Gmail seems to have made their new Compose in a way that breaks Rapportive. Is there another option besides typing new email addresses into a reply to an email? Thanks.

Why should I pay attention to sites that rank well in Bing?
If Google has the most market share, why would I use Bing to find backlinks. This question relates to Raven Tools using backlinks found on Bing for their Domain Research tool? Wouldn't that make their tool inferior to one that uses Google? Thanks, Sam

Backlinks Redirected Temporarily (New to Old)
I have a website of which we are being forced to change the domain name and soon after give the control of the domain name to the corporate office. The corporate office will eventually put a new website up on it. We would like to build more backlinks without the threat of losing all of these backlinks to the corporate site. We were considering to start building backlinks to the new domain with temporary redirects to the old domain but have recently been advised against doing this (threat of Google looking down on this technique). Should we continue to build back links to the old domain, or should we 302 redirect the links to the old domain? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

One Website or Mini Sites?
Hello and thank you in advance for your responses. My wife and I have been running a small service business for over 5 years and we recently came upon an untapped niche in our industry we will like to explore. We have found some niche keyword specific domains and have been contemplating building a few specific minisites linking to our main site(blog) in order to reach a more targeted audience. It seems the more I research this concept the more confused I guess. My questions are the following: 1. Should we create a main blog, for example: "BestHotelConferences.com" and have some (about 10) independent optimized sites "HiltonConferences.com," "MarriottConferences.com," linking to our main blog or should we optimize these pages within our main blog? 2. If we choose to create this minisite buildout concept and these domains yield the following monthly search results which one should we pick? HiltonConference.com - 3900 HiltonConference**s.**com - 1700 HiltonHotelConference - 730 HiltonHotelConferences - 580 I have heard that the plurals already include the singular version however they will not be an exact match. Also if we add the word hotelwe will be targeting a broader audience since "hilton conference" will still be included in the domain name, but once again it will not be an exact match. Please help! Which domain name should we pick?

Photography Site ranking!
Hi I am working on a photography site: www.daffodilwaves.co.uk now there isn't many pages nor is the that much text. However you will see that they have a blog (poorly designed one which we are addressing) Now blog posts I feel can be really good as there is generally alot of naturally written text which I don't feel I need to influence. Also generally people will comment so I also believe that is good for rankings too. However I find that the blog ranks higher than the actual website and I dont want that to occur the website is the one that generates the bookings. So can you give me some ideas to transfer the ranking from the blog to the website? I was thinking that within the article I could simply link back to the homepage - would you think that is a good idea? If so would you suggest I use particular anchor text? such as "Wedding Photographer" or "Comtemporary wedding Photographer" Thanks
