Duplicate Page Title for multilingual wordpress site
-
Hello all,
I have received my first crawl reports and I find a lot of errors of duplicate page title.
In the wordpress site I use the qtranslate plugin in order to have the site in 2 languages.
I also use the Yoast SEO plugin in order to put titles, description and keywords to each web page.
By looking deeply in the duplicate page title errors I think I found that the problem is that every web page takes the same SEO Title for each language. But I am not 100% sure.
I tried to use some shortcodes of the qtranslate plugin like the following
ABOUT
[:en]About
in order to indicate and give different titles per language for one web page but that doesn't seem to work.
Does anybody here has experienced the same problem as me?
Do you have any suggestions about how to ressolve the problem of the duplicate page title?
I can give you the URL of the website if you need it to have a look.
Thank you in advanced for your help. I really appreciate that.
Regards,
Lenia

Hi again,
I use the SEO plugin for Wordpress by Yoast.
The problem with qTranslate is that in the backend you have 1 post, with 1 Title where you will have EnglishTitleGermanTitle but somehow it doesn't do the job well.

Hi Istvan,
Thank you. You help me a lot.
Ok I see how you managed to put different SEO titles / page / language.
I tried to do that with qtranslate by using the following short code but it doesn't work.
ABOUT
[:en]About
Could you please let me know, if that is ok for you, which SEO plugin did you use?
Thank you very much one more time.
Regards,
Lenia

Hi Lenia,
With qTranslate my biggest issue was the URL system for each page, which was the same indifferent by language (and since our clients website hosts 3 languages it was kind of odd to have a non-describing URL system).
Another back stab from qTranslate was that each post "hosted" every language version, but WPML gave me the possibility to work with every language on as a different post -> Different Title, Different URL, Different Meta tags.
This is why I have chosen to use WPML (although you have to buy it, but it does worth it).
I hope this helped,
Istvan

Hi Istvan,
Thank you very much for your feedback.
Could you please let me know what exactly have you done with WPML to resolve the issue and that it wasn't possible to do with qstraslate?
Do you believe it is a matter of plugin or theme?
I am not sure but I have used once a theme that permitted me to put different SEO title for each language.
I try to understand better what is the source of the problem.
Thank you anyway for your help.

Hi Lenia,
I had the same issue as you have. Then I have changed the qTranslate plugin to WPML, which kind of resolved the issue for me.

Problem of possible duplicate title tag and description. Help me!
Hi everybody, I'm optimizing this huge website that has a lot of identical categories for differente locations. I'm trying to find a smart way to write title and description for these categories, changing the location as a variable on the title and description phrase. Here some examples: Title: Attractions in [CITY]. Sightseeings, monuments and museums in [CITY]. Description: Find travel ideas and suggestions for [CITY]. On [NAME OF THE WEBSITE] you can find a lot of attractions, monuments and sightseeing off the beaten path in [CITY]. Changing only the name of the CITY on these Titles and Descriptions, am I running the risk of duplicate title and description? Thanks in advance for your help!

WordPress Duplicate Content Caused By Categories
Hello, We have a wordpress blog that has around 250 categories. Due to our platform we have a hierarchy structure for 3 separate stores. For example iPhone > Apps > Books. Placing a blog post in the books category automatically places it into iPhone and iPhone/Apps category, causing 3 instances of any blog post in this category. Is this an issue? I have seen 2 schools of thought on categories, 1 index follow and 2 noindex follow. I know some of our categories get indexed, but with so many, maybe it is better to noindex them. We also considered reducing our categories to 10 to 12 and use tags to provide the indexed site navigation as follows: Reviews (category) iPhone Book App, iPhone App Store (tags) but this seems a little redundant? Anyone want to take this on? thank you Mike

Site not passing page authority....
Hi, This site powertoolworld.co.uk is not passing page authority. In fact every page shows no links unless it has a link from an external source. Originally this site blocked Roger from crawling it but that block was lifted over 6 months ago. I also ran a crawl test last night and it shows the same thing. PA of 1 and no links. I would like to point out that the problem seems to be the same for all sites on the same platform. Which points me in the direction of code. for example there is a display: none tag in the ccs which is used to style where the side bar links are. It's a Blue Park platform. What could be causing the problem? Thanks in advance. EDIT Turns out that blocking the ezooms crawler stopped it from being included.

Translating Page Titles & Page Descriptions
I am working on a site that will be published in the original English, with localized versions in French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese. All the versions will use the English information architecture. As part of the process, we will be translating the page the titles and page descriptions. Translation quality will be outstanding. The client is a translation company. Each version will get at least four pairs of eyes including expert translators, editors, QA experts and proofreaders. My question is what special SEO instructions should be issued to translators re: the page titles and page descriptions. (We have to presume the translators know nothing about SEO.) I was thinking of: stick to the character counts for titles and descriptions make sure the title and description work together avoid over repetition of keywords page titles (over-optimization peril) think of the descriptions as marketing copy try to repeat some title phrases in the description (to get the bolding and promote click though) That's the micro stuff. The macro stuff: We haven't done extensive keyword research for the other languages. Most of the clients are in the US. The other language versions are more a demo of translation ability than looking for clients elsewhere. Are we missing something big here?

Please recommend a tool to list pages on my site.
I have taken a major hit from the latest update. Site has been online for 10 years, white hat SEO all the way but I do have some legacy pages were I would duplicate title or the description on a new page. Things are just unorganized currently and trying to find the best approach to organizing what I already have as well as track new content. I would like to have a tool that would basically extract a list of my current pages, the title tags and the description in an Excel file. Not sure how the pros organinze the SEO on a site but my biright idea is that I can have a large excel file with the pages listed so I can detect duplicate info. Site only has about 300 pages. Just regular php pages, no CMS. Thanks in advance!

Adding .html To Wordpress Site
I am working on a team (my part is the SEO) where the developer added the .html extension to the permalinks. I don't understand why, on Wordpress, you would do this. Is there any benefit, or penalty for it as an SEO standpoint? I usually just set mine up %postname% as the permalink structure, but I am not the web design lead on this project. I asked the designer why, but he seems to be reluctant to answer any of my emails about his work, (like he is above that or something). Not wanting to make things worse, I dropped it and thought I would ask here since I saw a few posts in reference to it today in the forum. Is there an advantage or disadvantage (either way) to using the .html extension on a Wordpress site?

Avoiding duplicate content/same pages
hi I have been checking through all the Q and A but i i'm still not sure how you get http://www.domain.co.uk/index.html to be just http://www.domain.co.uk/? Do you add canonical to the index page to point to the page you prefer and then add a 301 redirect? thanks

Duplicate Content Penalties, International Sites
We're in the process of rolling out a new domestic (US) website design. If we copy the same theme/content to our International subsidiaries, would the duplicate content penalty still apply? All International sites would carry the Country specific domain, .co.uk, .eu, etc. This question is for English only content, I'm assuming translated content would not carry a penalty.
