Can someone suggest a good wordpress plugin for compressing images?
-
I am building a new website and it has 500+ photo images.
I've got less than 100 in there at the moment and the page speed is already very slow.
I'm trying to reduce the size of the images before uploading but without a photoshop application it is very difficult.
Are there any great plugins for wordpress that can help?

I would add, to say between a memcache plugin and an .htaccess solution you are comparing apples to oranges....
Total Cache utilizes memory to cache (so even the cache can be slowed by the system) But with Supercache it is a static copy served using .htaccess
So saying one is better than the other in a blanket response is kind of dead wrong --- They both do different things in different ways for different reasons/end solutions.
Also, I had never used Smush, but it increased my load time and dropped my score with both Google and Pingdom, but I could have done something wrong

Reduce image file sizes and improve performance using the Smush.it API within WordPress.
Link: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-smushit/http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/
A better plugin for caching is W3 Total Cache. You should use that plugin instead of WP Super Cache.
Use CDN !
Use Photoshop to resize and quality for Web is 60% ! -
I have a couple of suggestions. If you're on a PC, download Irfanview. It's free and allows you to resize images before you upload them. If you're on a Mac, check out Gimp. There are a lot of free editors out there that can help.
For Wordpress, I like using the smushit plugin.

Hi,
not familiar with a plugin that does just that for images, but http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/ creates a cache copy of the whole page and serves it gzipped.
There are some mods and customizations to be made, you can choose to use it in php or htacess mode.
Since WP is already php memory intensive, I would suggest using the .htaccess setup and making it compress.
But there are many options you can toy with to see if it improves loadtime
Alternatively http://www.picresize.com/ is a nice site that is free and allows you to compress to size/format easily, if this is an option for you.
Hope this helps

Migrating a site to Wordpress
I've recently been converting our old website to a wordpress based website and been working on the new version of the site on a subdomain. Now at the stage when I am getting ready to let the site go live and just wondering exactly how to do this so I have minimal downtime? Looking in the wordpress control panel there is the setting to enter the address of the site if you want it to be different from the directory it has been installed within - is this a good idea (i.e. is it stable if I do this? good for seo, bad for seo or makes no difference?)? or should I manually install everything in the root myself (if I do this is there a way to direct people to the temp version of the site on the subdomain? Any tips, do and don't s would be appreciated as I want to do this right!

Redirecting Images
Hi, I'm wondering how important it is when relaunching a site on a new platform (switching to Drupal) to serve up images from the same file paths in order to ensure consistency during the changeover. I've tried to keep the questions straightforward so that this post can be useful to people in a similar situation in future: How much difference do the file paths make to SEO? Does Google care or even notice if the image file paths change? Is it worth forcing Drupal to mimic our old file paths for the sake of consistency with the old site in order to maintain rankings OR do we take the opportunity to redesign our file paths for better SEO? Any help would be much appreciated 🙂

WordPress not man enough...has anybody got experience working with Pryo CMS?
Hey folks I'm working with a small team on putting together a new niche accommodation / holiday search portal here in the UK. We are most likely using PHP / MySQL technology for the site - I am a huge fan of WordPress but not sure its quite man enough for the task (many option search over 10,000 plus properties). We can't afford to pay for a bespoke development, so off-the shelf CMS is the most likely route for release 1, and from what I've been reading Pyro CMS seems a good open source choice... https://www.pyrocms.com/ Has anybody come across this, or know how good it is with regards to on-site SEO? Or maybe WordPress is up to the task? If not, what are other good open source options for sites focused around a search function? Cheers Simon

How can I reduce my warnings for excesive links on our site?
Our campaign overview shows well over 100 warnings that could be hurting our google ranking based on excessive links on pages. Each page listed, however, is simply due to listing the brands we carry, and linking to the products. Is there a way to do this without hurting our ranking? A better way than linking, perhaps? Thanks in advance!

Finally have a budget for a great seo ecommerce site but need help choosing wordpress, joomla, modx, magneto or? Thank you in advance for your generosity of time
We finally have a budget and want to dump our intuit/homestead site www.originalartbroker.com Our budget is 5k-10k but could do more if needed. I am slowly catching my competition with this homestead site that I built. But I do realize it is time to step back, figure out what is best, and hire a pro to get the job done. I am green in the seo and web development arena so please go easy on me and please help to point me in the right direction. Just went out on a limb a couple years ago playing with homestead.com site software and built what we have today. Didn't know anything about website development...it sort of just happened. I feel and know that homestead.com solution is hindering what we could be doing due to the bloated nature of the site and inability to perform such task as 301 redirects etc.... I have been able to slowly attain first page seo rankings on keywords based of the artists we carry using this po-dunk homestead platform to build my site after a ton of work education thanks to seomoz and a lot of you. But, have never asked for help and could really use some generosity of time in explaining a solution that would work best for our business. Do we just go with a wordpress site that is similar to our current setup and use their plugins? Do we use a cms software solution like magneto or joomla? We will only have 200-300 pieces at any given time. We are constantly selling and buying new pieces providing us content. We are need of a site that can perform well in terms of seo. I have heard of a lot of people talking about joomla, wordpress, and magneto. Would like to be able to have a product catalogue that ultimately sends whatever inventory we are uploading to our social sites and blogs so I don’t have to pump the product out to all of these sites. We offer free custom framing with our pieces and it would be nice to have a program that could wrap the photos of the pieces with the different frames for our customers. When I add a new piece I would like this software to have a predesigned product page that it plugs the information into. I would like it to create the url extension based of the artists name, medium used, and piece name to create unique and individual urls. I would like it to also create its own H tags throughout that product page according to the artist name description, and medium used. I would like to be able to sink this up to google merchant and other sites to carry our product. Bottom line is we sell art. We sell pieces by specific artists. We are constantly buying and selling. I need something powerful that keeps up with our content
