.co what is it? Do I need it? Does Google hate it?
-
Do .com rank better then .co? I don't know much about .co so I'm just looking for some insight! Thanks in advance.
-
Thanks to EVERYONE who gave me their 2 cents. I first heard of the ".co" when I saw a commercial for Overstock.co. It's interesting that they would start using this. I think that that says something. Now I'm not saying it will replace the .com but it's something to consider when a company like OverStock makes a .co purchase and campaign. Thanks to everyone! I'll be sure to post anymore info I read about it!
-
Correct. Getting into the public consciousness will be a much harder task than simply getting people to target the right territories in WMT.
I imagine this'll be more like .asia which is just a bit too generic to have really stuck with anyone.
.co.uk for example is well ingrained into the UK public's mind, but for just a .co ... I just don't see it happening. .xxx on the other hand.
-
Bottom line: Google is treating it as a valid global TLD, but it will be a while (if ever) before people accept it as authoritative as a .com.
-
haha don't worry, if you get proven wrong as much as I do, you get used to it
-
Then I shall eat my words and go back to finishing that article

Found it... http://www.seomoz.org/q/co-domains-any-thoughts
-
Oh, I've seen it being marketed as such, I just don't think it will ever get the traction required to be treated as a gTLD by search engines.
It's all just marketing spiel - http://www.cointernet.co/frequently-asked-questions/general-co-faqs#q5
I'll do a search but I don't think I'm wrong (though have been proven otherwise before :D).

It's on here somewhere that I read it... no idea who was commenting but perhaps findable by search.
-
Yeah, I refuse to believe .co is going to become a gTLD rather than a ccTLD. Do people still try and sell .ws as dot website?
I bought one as well to use as a URL shortener
-
Depends if you're targeting Columbia or not (.co is the Columbian TLD, which I think is a bit tricky considering all the .co.CC domains out there, though I guess you get .com.CC addresses too).
If you're not targeting Columbia specifically then I'd definitely go with a .com address over a .co TLD.
-
.co is the top-level domain for the country of Colombia.
I would get the .com if you are trying to target the USA. Otherwise you will lose valuable type-in traffic to careless people who don't understand .co and have .com fixed in their mind.
-
I've bought one (just the one ;p)
I think it was on here a few weeks ago actually that I read some comments about it. The general consensus seemed to be that it's not going to be seen as another .biz/.info spammy TLD and should be fine... which I was glad to read as I saw that after I'd bought it.
Apparently it's also going to be like a .com in that even though it's technically location based, that will be a factor which is ignored by search engines, so anyone anywhere can have one without losing any value from the geography.

Google indexing is slowing down?
I have up to 20 million unique pages, and so far I've only submitted about 30k of them on my sitemap. We had a few load related errors during googles initial visits, and it thought some were duplicates, but we fixed all that. We haven't gotten a crawl related error for 2 weeks now. Google appears to be indexing fewer and fewer urls every time it visits. Any ideas why? I am not sure how to get all our pages indexed if its going to operate like this... love some help thanks! 3 google map listings. How do I fix this
I have just started working on this website www.wallybuysell.com and I am wanting to get some feedback on how to fix a problem I have encountered. When I search for my business on Google maps there are 2 listings there. One lists the wrong website and the other one I can make changes too. Also when I search for the business in google local there is another page. Here are the pages: https://plus.google.com/108578438913962655516/about?gl=ca&hl=en I can edit this one. https://plus.google.com/114506363488296249715/about?gl=ca&hl=en This one I can not edit but seems to use pictures in my Google places listing. https://plus.google.com/u/0/104789849006671458564/about This listing is asking me to send verification code. How do I fix this ? How is this happening? Would love some help on this one.

Google Sitelinks
Hello, Good afternoon. I am having a site issue with Sitelinks. For some reason when I search Google for the brand I represent "California Olive Ranch" Sitelinks are not being generated. When I search for "Cal Olive Ranch" our site links are being generated. Our domain is Californiaoliveranch.com. Is there a way to tell Google to to change the site links to match our domain and brand name? Is this something that can be done in Google Webmasters? Thank you very much for your help. Adam P

Closed Address Google Local
While there are some older conversations pertaining to Google Local/Plus, I am not sure if issue is a bit different. The company I work for at one time had two locations. Both are brick & mortar, physical locations. The factory closed several years ago. To my surprise, the old location is coming up in a few Google searches as a Google Plus page (actually just located it toward the end of last week.) It is currently unclaimed. There are a handful of citations out on the web as well. To remove the factory listing (the one we don't want, which I am pretty sure is confusing Google), what is the best approach? Remove/update citations for the old listing? And then claim it and suspend it using our Google Places account? It took a while to claim the listing we actually want and I just want to be sure we handle removing the old one correctly. Any insight or advice is appreciated!
