How does having an SSL impact search optimization?
-
My site has a forced redirect on the home page to https://. But that's only on the home page...other site pages are visible. How does this impact search engines crawling my site?
-
It depends on whats currently out there and how the page is being redirected. If the page is being 301 redirected from http to https then you may lose link juice if everyone is linking to the http version. For most webmasters, you only need a handful of pages to be https so I would consider that as well if that applies to you (it may not). As Alan mentions, you may run into duplication issues if the web page can be accessed by http and https.Check out this article by Search Engine Journal.

If I read your situation correctly, visitors going to the home page automatically get pushed into the https: version, yet if they do directly to any other page on the site, they can get the non https: version. If that's true, there could potentially be problems. Does Google show any page on your site being indexed with both the http: and the https: version? Or are there a mix of http: and https: versions?
It shouldn't be a severe problem, yet it could have a negative impact overall.

Discrepancy between Search Console & LightHouse - CLS shift
Curious if anyone else is having this problem. I have, for example, a page that is listed in Search Console as having a CLS of .44 - it is listed as a "CLS issue." The same page rendered in LightHouse shows 0 for field data CLS and 0.02 for lab data (both in the "green"). It has been over a month since I made updates to the page to improve CLS. I tried to submit a validation in Search Console, but "validation failed." I'm not sure what else to fix on the page when LightHouse data shows it as in the green! I have the same issue with other pages as well.

Forwarding a .org domain to a .com domain: any negative impact to consider?
Hello! I have a question I've been unable to find a clear answer to. My client's primary domain is a .com with a satisfactorily high DA. My client owns the .org version of its domain (which has a very low DA, I suppose due to inactivity) but has never forwarded it on. For branding/visibility/traffic reasons, I'd like to recommend they set up the .org domain to forward to the .com domain, but I wanted to ask a few questions first: 1. Does forwarding low-value DA domains to high-value DA domains have any negative authority/SEO impact? 2. If the .org domain was to be forwarded, am I correct that an SSL cert is not necessary for it if the .com domain has an SSL cert? Thanks in advance!

How to avoid duplicate content on internal search results page?
Hi, according to Webmaster Tools and Siteliner our website have an above-average amount of duplicate content. Most of the pages are the search results pages, where it finds only one result. The only difference in this case are the TDK, H1 and the breadcrumbs. The rest of the layout is pretty static and similar. Here is an example for two pages with "duplicate content": https://soundbetter.com/search/Globo https://soundbetter.com/search/Volvo Edit: These are legitimate results that happen to have the same result. In this case we want users to be able to find the audio engineers by 'credits' (musicians they've worked with). Tags. We want users to rank for people searching for 'engineers who worked with'. And searching for two different artists (credit tags) returns this one service provider, with different urls (the tag being the search parameter) hence the duplicate content. I guess every e-commerce/directory website faces this kind of issue. What is the best practice to avoid duplicate content on search results page?

Should component pages be visible in the search result?
Hi everyone, My question is suppose i have a blog having 200 pages arranged in footer like seomoz blog and when i move to 2nd page and say the url is http://www.seomoz.org/blog?page=2 and when i search exact url on google should this page be visible in search result or not. Since all component pages of seomoz blog are visible, i think this should not be a problem but when i see other popular blogs like SEJ and seroundtable none of their component pages are visible in search result. By the way i am using rel=prev and next but not robots: noindex, follow

Google Custom Site Search
I am an admin on a google custom site search account. I am also the owner of a verified webmaster tools account for the same site. The Custom Search control panel will not let me add URL's or a Site map for on demand indexing, but says "you must submit a sitemap of your own verified sites". Has anyone else has this issue? Does the Owner of the custom search account have to be the owner of the webmaster account, or can the logged in admin be? Thanks
