Panda: Are our ads duplicate content or just structural and not even considered?
-
We have hundreds and hundreds of pages with similar ads on. We are getting content written for these pages right now and we're removing some pages, but we're wondering how Panda might see the ads which we have across the site?
The ads consist of the name of a company and a description and a few other bits. The description is the same on all pages that a company's ad is listed on - and that can be hundreds of pages.
You can see some examples here:
http://www.agencycentral.co.uk/agencysearch/accounting/skills/indandcomm/financialanalyst.htm
http://www.agencycentral.co.uk/agencysearch/accounting/skills/indandcomm/financialaccountant.htm
http://www.agencycentral.co.uk/agencysearch/accounting/skills/indandcomm/assistantaccountant.htm
What we're wondering is whether Google Panda might be seeing the description of the company as internal duplicate content or just structural and not even considered as part of the Panda algorithm? Or something else? Or wouldn't it be clear in this case? Clearly Panda wouldn't hit duplicate content in nav bards, sidebars etc... but this is in the content area of the page so it did make us wonder.
This could make a difference to how we proceed so we appreciate your thoughts.
Regards,
Phil

Thank you Dana! It's something we have been considering. Do you feel that Panda specifically would be penalising for the titles and titles? Or another part of Google?
Is it your view that the issue is that we have boilerplate titles, or too many very similar skills listed? Or both?
-
Hi Phil,
I don't think your pages present a duplicate content problem from what's on the page. However, they do present a duplicate content problem from the standpoint of your Titles and Meta descriptions. IMHO, I think Google devalues pages for this and here's why: Imagine you have one of the largest libraries in the world (i.e. Google)...then imagine that you have millions of people in your library trying to find the right book to answer a question or solve a problem. Now imagine, that your library visitor finds a row of books and every single one of them has the same title and short description. Suddenly, finding the answer to a question becomes much harder and the library visitor must open every single book [link] to find out if that particular one actually is the right one for them. You see the problem? I would take a few minutes and write descriptive, accurate and unique titles and descriptions for these pages. Then, I'd say you're good to go!
Hope that helps!
Dana

Duplicate Page Content Issue
Hello, I recently solved www / no www duplicate issue for my website, but now I am in trouble with duplicate content again. This time something that I cannot understand happens: In Crawl Issues Report, I received Duplicate Page Content for http://yourappliancerepairla.com (DA 19) http://yourappliancerepairla.com/index.html (DA 1) Could you please help me figure out what is happenning here? By default, index.html is being loaded, but this is the only index.html I have in the folder. And it looks like the crawler sees two different pages with different DA... What should I do to handle this issue?

Duplicate Content Mystery
Hi Moz community! I have an ongoing duplicate mystery going on here and I'm hoping someone here can answer my question. We have an Ecommerce site that has a variety of product pages and category pages. There are Rel canonicals in place, along with parameters in GWT, and there are also URL rewrites. Here are some scenarios, maybe you can give insight as to what’s exactly going on and how to fix it. All the duplicates look to be coming from category pages specifically. For example:
Technical SEO | | Ecom-Team-Access
This link re-writes: http://www.incipio.com/cases/tablet-cases/amazon-kindle-cases-sleeves.html?cat=407&color=152&price=20- To: http://www.incipio.com/cases/tablet-cases/amazon-kindle-cases-sleeves.html The rel canonical tag looks like this: http://www.incipio.com/cases/tablet-cases/amazon-kindle-cases-sleeves.html" /> The CONTENT is different, but the URLs are the same. It thinks that the product category view is the same as the all products view, even though there is a canonical in there telling it which one is the original. Some of them don’t have anything to do with each other. Take a look: Link identified as duplicate: http://www.incipio.com/cases/smartphone-cases/htc-smartphone-cases/htc-windows-phone-8x-cases.html?color=27&price=20- Link this is a duplicate of: http://www.incipio.com/cases/macbook-cases/macbook-pro-13in-cases.html Any idea as to what could be happening here?0 -

Uservoice and Duplicate Page Content
Hello All, I'm having an issue where the my UserVoice account is creating duplicate page content (image attached). Any ideas on how to resolve the problem? A couple solutions we're looking into: moving the uservoice content inside the app, so it won't get crawled, but that's all we got for now. Thank you very much for your time any insight would be helpful. Sincerely,
