How do you handle Wordpress sitemaps within your site?
-
I have a regular site map on my site and I also have a Wordpress site installed within it that we use for blog/news content. I currently have an auto-sitemap generator installed in Wordpress which automatically updates the sitemap and submits it to the search engines each time the blog is updated.
The question I have (which I think I know the answer to but I just want to confirm) is do I have to include all of the articles within the blog in the main site's sitemap despite the Wordpress sitemap having them in there already?
If I do include the articles in the main website's sitemap, they would also be in the Wordpress sitemap as well, which is redundant. Redundancy is not good, so I just want to make sure.

I use 2 different sitemaps and submit them both to Google and the other search engines
-
Yep, no need. Won't hurt if you do (will probably get crawled twice or one will be ignored) but for the sake of keeping GWT sitemap data clean (pages submitted/indexed), don't duplicate the links.
Cheers,

So don't include links to the articles in the main sitemap if they are already in the wordpress sitemap?
-
You can just keep them separate and submit both sitemaps to GWT. That's your best course of action.

Wordpress tags and duplicate content?
I've seen a few other Q&A posts on this but I haven't found a complete answer. I read somewhere a while ago that you can use as many tags as you would like. I found that I rank for each tag I used. For example, I could rank for best night clubs in san antonio, good best night clubs in san antonio, great best night clubs in san antonio, top best night clubs in san antonio, etc. However, I now see that I'm creating a ton of duplicate content. Is there any way to set a canonical tag on the tag pages to link back to the original post so that I still keep my rankings? Would future tags be ignored if I did this?

On-site adjustment opinions
Hi folks, I've got a fairly interesting scenario. I'm trying to rank this page (http://www.staysa.co.za/sa/1-2-0-0-1/East-London/accommodation) better for the term, "accommodation east london". The client isn't keen on making many changes and it was built horribly with ASP, half CMS, half not. I have made the following changes today: I introduced two paragraphs of text below the H1 tag. I changed "East London Bed and Breakfast", "East London Conference Venues", "East London Cottage / Chalet" to just "Bed and Breakfast", "Conference Venues", "Cottage / Chalet" as the continual key phrase duplication in my experience is a bad move. I've made a change to the title tag (this is a huge mission as it's not CMS controlled, so I had to teach myself some basic ASP to do so). Meta data.. nightmare to change unfortunately, at least not without rewriting part of the CMS. I'm wondering, are there any other on-site factors that I'm missing? I'm not a fan of site-wide links, so I don't want to put an exact match anchor text link from the sidebar/footer to the page, not unless someone can motivate why I should. Keen to hear everyone's opinions 🙂

Site Crawl
I was wondering if there was a way to use SEOmoz's tool to quickly and easily find all the URLs on you site and not just the ones with errors. The site that I am working on does not have a site map. What I am trying to do is find all the URLs along with their titles and description tags. Thank you very much for your help

What are the considerations in setting language within the url of multilingual sites?
Is it good practice to use Language-Agnostic + LOCALE=en +LOCALE=fr (as per example below)? If not what is the best way to determine language within a url and why? For example, today we use: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/default.jsf (goes to language last used by user) http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/default.jsf?LOCALE=fr (forces a French-launguage page) http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/default.jsf?LOCALE=en (forces and English-language page) I think you can get tell Google about these parameters through Webmaster tools to help them properly crawl and understand your content, but if we had the opportunity to change it what should we do?

Google.ca is showing our US site instead of our Canada Site
When our Canadian users who search on google.ca for our brand (e.g. Travelocity, Travelocity hotels, etc.), the first few results our from our US site (travelocity.com) rather than our Canadian site (travelocity.ca). In Google Webmaster Tools, we've adjusted the geotargeting settings to focus on the appropriate locale, but the wrong country TLD is still coming up at the top via google.ca. What's the best way to ensure our Canadian site comes up instead of the US site on google.ca? Thanks, Tory Smith

What is with WordPress Dupe issues?
Hi, Just wondering if anyone can explain for me why it seems every tag that is entered in WP blog posts on a site creates a duplicate page (identified by ROGER and friends in SEOmoz crawl)? Obviously if you can offer a solution (apart from the extremely obvious "don't use tags") I would be immensely grateful. Thanks so much,
