What are the best practices for generating SEO-friendly headlines?
-
dashes between words?
-
underscores between words?
etc.
Looking for a programatically generated solution that's using editor-written headlines to produce an SEO-friendly URL
Thanks.

Hi Shane,
Use dashes, and make sure that the URLs are "hackable as well. That is, they can easily be used to navigate to different sections of the site through modification. For example:
You have a blog with two sections, news and movie reviews. See two URL examples:
Good: http://www.myblog.com/movie-reviews/shane-reviews-ironman-3/
Wrong: http://www.myblog.com/movie-reviews-shane-reviews-ironman-3/
If I am a user on your website, it would be a good experience for me to understand the structure of your site through the URL itself. If I remove "shane-reviews-ironman-3/" from the URL, I should be taken to the movie reviews section of your blog.
Also, don't forget canonicalization.
Hope this helps!

When you say headlines, you mean URL?
Officially, dashes and underscores are treated the same.
I used to just make my URLs the same as my title (super-awesome-title-example.html).
But now I make them super-short (title-example.html) and to the point.

Adding a parameter to the URL / URL Stracture
Dear Community, I would like to ask a question regarding url structure. We are struggling with shorting urls and we thought to add a "parameter" to the url. Example: domain.com/product**/a/** or domain.com**/a/**product/ Current url structure: domain.com/product/ So we go after and short url contains "/a/" and find the category we want. Is this going to harm our SEO strategies? Any idea is welcome.

Will using query string in the URL and swapping H1s for filtered view of the blog impact SEO negatively?
This is a blog revamp we are trying to personalize the experience for 2 separate audiences. We are revamping our blog the user starts on the blog that shows all stories (first screen) then can filter to a more specific blog (ESG or News blog). The filtered version for ESG or the News blog is done through a query string in the URL. We also swap out the page’s H1s accordingly in this process, will this impact SEO negatively?

What is the best practice to seperate different locations and languages in an URL? At the moment the URL is www.abc.com/ch/de. Is there a better way to structure the URL from an SEO perspective?
I am looking for a solution for using a new URL structure without using www.abc.com**/ch/de** in the URL to deliver the right languages in specific countries where more than one language are spoken commonly. I am looking forward to your ideas!

SEO friendly url strategy...
Hi guys i just wanted your expert opinion on keywords in urls. The example i'm giving you is in regards to a ecommerce website: Option 1: www.example.com/shop/coffee/coffee-beans/brand-coffee-beans-500gr Option 2: www.example.com/shop/coffee/beans/brand-coffee-beans-500gr We sell coffee so i'll keep the example relevant 🙂 Does it make a difference on how the keywords are stacked throughout? Would the search engine combine the two keywords eg. .../coffee/beans/... or would i be better of having .../coffee/coffee-beans/... and is there a penalty for having the same phrase more than once in the url? I hope my question makes sense... 😉 Looking forward to your opinions and ideas!

How can I see the SEO of a URL? I need to know the progress of a specific landing-page of my web. Not a keyword, an url please. Thanks.
I need to know the evolution on SEO of a specific landing-page (an URL) of my web. Not a keyword, a url. Thanks. Muchas gracias)
