YouTube Video Transcription
-
Hello there!
I'm wondering if there is any legalities involved with transcribing a video on YouTube and posting the transcription on a site that does not have the rights to the video while sourcing the video and giving credit.

To be clear, here, Guy, and to flesh out Keri's response, because as a former pro photographer and writer this is a pet peeve of mine...
NOTHING published on the Internet is public domain unless the creator specifically states in writing that it is, and you can prove that he/she did so. Which is what your email to the company seeks to do, so good move.
The simple act of publishing content where it is publicly accessible in no way can be interpreted as allowing anyone else to use the content/granting copyright. If the creator chooses to grant lenient republication rights such a Creative Commons licenses, the material can be used under those license restrictions, but even that is not "public domain". There is a specific license granted and you must adhere strictly to the terms of that license.
This applies to all content (written, video, photo, audio, music etc) and to re-purposing and derivative works. The only practical exception for regular users is "Fair Use" which amounts essentially to quoting very small parts of the original - in order to use it in a review, for example. (Other parts of Fair Use include things like use in textbooks and by libraries)
Bottom line: if a website owner didn't create it from scratch, they have no right to republish/use it without written permission from the creator./copyright holder. And the fact lots of people on the web abuse this law won't protect them if they get caught.
I'm not a lawyer. Don't even play one on the Internets. But anyone who thinks the above doesn't apply to them is asking for a world of hurt. Not to mention ripping off the original creator. If you think you're exempt, better have a good lawyer's proof to back it up.

P.S. Some works were copyrighted so long ago (and copyright not renewed) that they have fallen out of copyright protection and are actually in the public domain. But we're talking over 100 years and you'll want to have proof before using.

If u get permission in writing then no problem, also I would check the copy to see if it's already transcribed somewhere. If it was then it's duplicate content

Publishing a video on YouTube does not make the content public domain.
-
That's what I figured but wondering if publishing it on YouTube makes it public domain? Plus, my client would cite the source. I sent an email to the company who owns the video to seek permission.
-
My guess would be that the creator of the content owns that content and you are still copying it. I wouldn't do it with a company who has deep pockets.

Video page duplicates (that aren't really duplicates)
Hi. My company has a 1000 videos, each of the videos appear on their own page that follows the same template. The title is of course different / videos linked to / etc. Google is reporting them as "duplicate content". What should I do to differentiate these pages enough so that google can recognized that they are different pages?.

Hosting Video both on YouTube AND Independently on Site?
I've got a pretty good handle on the pros / cons of hosting on videos on a free service like YouTube vs. hosting them independently with something like Wistia. But one question I've never heard answered is "Why not host the same video both ways?" Why wouldn't I publish a video to YouTube (to get the exposure and better chance to rank) and then also host the same video independently on my site with Wistia (to get a second listing in the SERPs, as well as a thumbnail that links to my site)? Is this seen as a spammy practice? Duplicate content? Would love to hear your thoughts on this as it's something that seems to potentially be a win-win, but haven't heard it discussed. Thanks!

What is the SEO benefit of embedding YouTube videos on a page?
Is there SEO benefit to embedding YouTube videos made my other people or companies on pages? The indirect benefit would be a better user experience and increased perceived value and usefulness of the page which could lead to more links. Are there any other benefits?

Video Sitemap, Video Location
I'm a link builder, so some of this stuff on-page stuff is out of my comfort zone. I've got a client who I'm doing a video sitemap for, as well as Schema integration. One of the requirements on the video sitemap is video location. They're hosting all of their videos privately at Vimeo, and embedding them on their website. Is there a URL that Vimeo has for engines, because the primary URL on Vimeo is blocked because of their permissions (private). Any suggestions on a work-around on this? Again, I'm a link builder and out of my comfort zone, so I apologize for the dumb question 🙂

VSEO - Is backlinks help youtube video to rank well??
hey, I made a test & got backlinks to 2 youtube videos of mine and saw what should happening in next few days..but nothing got! I didn't get update or change in my videos even if the keywords are low competitions.. but when I read many posts & experts say that getting backlinks to your youtube video or VSEO count by google and we should doing it! the only way I've found to improve your youtube video ranking in google is to add it in blog & use video sitemap! but I'm also use video to direct affiliate link & there where I think backlinks should work to help me. I would to know from your experience is that worth to do or not or if backlinks for youtube are link ping we should do it directly when we upload video? PS: any info or idea you've it can be a very helpful solution for all! thnx
