Rel Canonical Question
-
Hi all.
I think I'm a bit confused. When I check my crawl diagnostics its listing lots of warnings under the heading rel-canonical. I am not sure why, since virtually all my pages have the link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" tag. I use it because there are a lot of possible extensions that can appear on the pages as it is an eCommerce site.
Why would seomoz list this as a warning?
Thanks

It turns out they are notices, not warnings. I didn't really see the difference until you pointed it out.
Thanks for the info!

Are you sure it's a warning (yellow) and not a notice (blue)? Notices are just letting you know that they found something that may be of interest to you and not necessarily a problem.

Do we need rel="prev" and rel="next" if we have a rel="canonical" for the first page of a series
Despite having a canonical on page 1 of a series of paginated pages for different topics, Google is indexing several, sometimes many pages in each topic. This is showing up as duplicate page title issues in Moz and Screaming Frog. Ideally Google would only index the first page in the series. Do we need to use rel="prev" etc rather than a canonical on page 1? How can we make sure Google crawls but doesn't index the rest of the series?

Page authority questions?
I've been analyzing some IT communities ...in order to check how relevant is the page authority vs PageRank. I found one main site which is organized by "communities'..and every community is a sub-domain. The root domain has an authority of 90/100 which it should be great......so the sub-domains "inherit" part of this authority.... Until here everything seems to be perfect. However, I went deeper and I picked one of these communities. Analyzing the "Linking Root Domain" I discovered it only has only 5 root domains pointing to its home page. Those 5 Root Domains have generated more than 134k links. That doesn't seem to be "natural". Checking those 5 Root Domains I discovered that they have been registered by the same Root Domain site. Ex: Main domain: Domain.com Community1.domain.com Community2.domain.com.... Linking Root Domains: DomainXY.com DomainABC.com DomainRST.com DomainFGH.com DomainOPQ.com It seems to me that it is easy to cheat the authority domain score. Just creating others sites developing the same topic and generating back links to your main domain

Canonical link on canonical url
This might seem a bit of an odd one, but we seem to be going around in circles on this when using the on page optimizer tool. We have an ecommerce site (magento) which by default is putting a canonical link in the header on every product page. For example; www.example.com/product1.html has the But when we run the on page optimiser tool, we're losing points on the critical section for not having canonical set correctly. If we remove the tag, we get the tick and the a grade, but then further down the report we lose a tick for not using canonical links. What are we missing here?

Campaign Reports Question
Hello everyone. I'm new to SEOMOZ and sort of a beginner with this SEO stuff but this does seem like the place to be to learn things. I spent quite a bit of time reading the blogs and found them very helpful - including everyone's comments. I'm not sure what to make of a couple of my campaign reports. I'm going through my campaign reports and have a few questions. I guess the easy way is to break this down. Question 1: Crawl Errors: I"m getting duplicate content/page errors for the following pages. http://www.njsigncrafters.com and http://www.njsigncrafters.com/index.php Am I losing a bit of google points because of this and do I fix it by using a redirect? Question 2: When I look at my on-page analysis I'm getting grades of A-F. I'm figuring maybe I should have some recommendations about what to do but SEOMOZ gives me a grade and then leaves it at that. Besides reviewing my on-page factors am I missing something simple that I"m supposed to click on to see recommendations? I suppose once I get used to the way things work I'll get this SEOMOZ site figured out.

301 redirect question from a newb
So, I've been blogging for almost 3 years now. I've always used wordpress, but recently changed from a ProPhoto theme to a Woo Theme (Editorial...don't know if that matters). I've signed up for the SEOmoz website and HOLY CROW I have problems with my website out the wazoo. I am tackling issues one at a time and one of my issues seems to be 301 redirects. If you'd like to see a screen shot of the crawl diagnostics, check it out the attachment. If you'd like screen shots of anything else, just let me know. I'm not sure I'm reading the chart right, but it seems to say that all of my redirecting problems are because my links are redirecting from an http://www..... to a http://http://www... I've been in my wordpress blog post back end and can't seem to figure out how they A. Got like this. and B how to fix it. If I'm reading the chart wrong...definitely let me know. Thank you guys so much in advance! Screen%20Shot%202012-01-01%20at%202.28.19%20PM.png

SEOMOZ Canonical notices using Wordpress
I keeping getting the notice from SEO Moz Crawls relating to Canonical issues. I have tried Yoast SEO, All-in-One SEO and both insert the appropriate canonical code... Can anyone help determine why the crawls report this notice? Check out seoontario.ca\testamonials for an example. Could it be because the site in my SEOMOZ crawl does not have the http:// prefix? I've now installed FV Simpler SEO, a variant of All In Once SEO, but am getting the same canonical code...
