Page Name vs Header
-
Hi!
I was wondering if one of our knowledgeable community members can help me out:
I use the drag & drop Intuit Website Builder. For each page, there is a field for the page "Name" and for the "Header". I understand the header is a standard element in a page. What exactly is the page "Name", how is different from the header and can/should I use the same text for both?
Your input for a beginner like me is appreciated!
I also have another question if you guys will indulge me:
Intuit's support is terrible. You cannot get assistance over the phone, only through an annoying "chat" system. Wordpress has been recommended to me by multiple people. Are they really that good? how is their support?

Yes, headers are needed for SEO. I'd suggest reading up more on the various sections (page title, h1, h2, content, etc.) for on page optimization to better understand how a search engine uses that data.
As for not showing it on a page, I don't understand why a header would ever be cloaked - if anything, Google could give you a smack down for having it but not showing it on a page since that's black hat.
As for Wordpress, I don't think of it as an editor at all and see it as CMS. I like that it's open source because I can use plugins to create different functions. I'd suggest also reading up more on how the system works to help guide what plugins or hosts you may want to go with.
Good luck.

Hi Andrea, thanks for the input!
About headers: Are they necessary? Are they important for SEO, even if they are not displayed on the page physically?
About Wordpress: I've been looking into them today and the result is I am thoroughly confused. I understand it's an editor. And I understand you can use it with any host. But there seem to be so many options/services/"official" hosts that I don't know where to begin!
I guess what I would be looking for is a drag & drop editor with as much flexibility as possible in terms of inserting text, images, buttons, etc.I will be relying heavily on them as I do not possess coding skills. I'd like as many options as possible in regards to fonts, graphics, etc. Though Intuit is starting to disappoint me more & more, their editor is excellent and I was able to mold my site into the current beautiful state it's in.
What do you think?

Ah, the fun stuff! Page title, also called page name, is what appears in the tab of a page. So, when you click on a page, there's text that appears in the browser window.
Page header (also called an H1) is essentially like a headline - it's separated from the body text. This graphic may help a bit to explain: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/perfecting-keyword-targeting-on-page-optimization
I can't speak to your question about Intuit; I can say I've worked with Wordpress and had good results with their help. I also find it easy to find experts who will answer questions. It's a very popular platform which makes for plenty of opportunity to have discussions.

Why Dropping pages from SERPS?
Our website for my olansi company in London, China has hundreds of pages dedicated to every service we provide to China local areas. The total number of pages is approximately 100. Google caters pretty well for long-tail searches when it indexes all these pages, so we usually get a fair amount of traffic when this happens. However, Google occasionally drops most of our indexed pages from search engine results for a few days or weeks at a time - for example, Google is currently indexing 60 pages while last week it was back at 100. Can you tell me why this happens? When these pages don't display, we lose a lot of organic traffic. What are we doing wrong? Site url:https://www.olanside.com

How do I prevent duplicate page title errors from being generated by my multiple shop pages?
Our e-commerce shop has numerous pages within the main shop page. Users navigate through the shop via typical pagination. So while there may be 6 pages of products it's all still under the main shop page. Moz keeps flagging my shop pages as having duplicate titles (ie shop page 2). But they're all the same page. Users aren't loading unique pages each time they go to the next page of products and they aren't pages I can edit. I'm not sure how to prevent this issue from popping up on my reports.

Page content not being recognised?
I moved my website from Wix to Wordpress in May 2018. Since then, it's disappeared from Google searches. The site and pages are indexed, but no longer ranking. I've just started a Moz campaign, and most pages are being flagged as having "thin content" (50 words or less), when I know that there are 300+ words on most of the pages. Looking at the page source I find this bit of code: page contents Does this mean that Google is finding this and thinks that I have only two words (page contents) on the page? Or is this code to grab the page contents from somewhere else in the code? I'm completely lost with this and would appreciate any insight.

Page disappeared from Google index. Google cache shows page is being redirected.
My URL is: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/converse Hi. The week before last, my top Converse page went missing from the Google index. When I "fetch as Googlebot" I am able to get the page and "submit" it to the index. I have done this several times and still cannot get the page to show up. When I look at the Google cache of the page, it comes up with a different page. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/converse shows: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/pop-in-olivia-kim Back story: As far as I know we have never redirected the Converse page to the Pop-In page. However the reverse may be true. We ran a Converse based Pop-In campaign but that used the Converse page and not the regular Pop-In page. Though the page comes back with a 200 status, it looks like Google thinks the page is being redirected. We were ranking #4 for "converse" - monthly searches = 550,000. My SEO traffic for the page has tanked since it has gone missing. Any help would be much appreciated. Stephan

Can you have the same brand name for two distinct Google Places Pages
Hello Mozers I'd like to know if two existing GPP can have the same name 'spabycar'. At present 'mobile nail technician' based in W1 and 'spabycar 'WD' are ranking (ironically the one that has the old brand name is very high!). Both need to be 'spabycar' If this is feasible, is there a down side, and is there a good tutorial source for an aspirant to follow? Thanks Catherine

What can be the cause of my inner pages ranking higher than my home page?
If you do a search for my own company name or products we sell the inner pages rank higher than the homepage and if you do a search for exact content from my home page my home page doesn't show in the results. My homepage shows when you do a site: search so not sure what is causing this.

Htm vs. aspx page extensions & duplicate content
We have a client whose site is fairly new. There isn't much in the way of SEO results so far. In their content management system they have implemented friendly URLs and changed the extensions from aspx to htm. Now the htm pages are all indexed in Google but when I run a campaign report in SEOmoz it shows that all pages are duplicated with there being both htm and aspx pages for each page. Should we do 301 redirects from the aspx pages to the htm pages? Or would we be safe by removing the htm pages and letting Google reindex the site with the aspx page extensions? Does Google have any kind of preference as to what the page extensions are as long as the URLs include keywords?
