'Too many on-page links': doesn't add up...
-
Hi All,
I'm fairly new to the site, have had a full site crawl and am somewhat confused by a large number of pages (82) reported as showing 'too many on page links'.
Mine is a new e-commerce site selling a project management methodology. I have about 80 pages which describe individual templates and contain internal links to additional, related content on the site.
The crawl warnings define too many on page links as roughly 100 "on any given page" yet almost none of the pages flagged contain more than 20-30 on links.
Any thoughts and ideas about (a) the degree to which this will aeffect my ranking in practice and (b) how to resolve it gratefully received!
Thanks in advance,
Felix

Most of the time, the majority of on-page links come from header, sidebar, and footer navigation. Do you have About in the header with a hover function that displays 5 more links (Contact, History, etc)? There's a good chance that's being counted as 6 links just as an example.
Because of things like rational surfer, you generally don't need to worry about this as far as pagerank and all of that goes. I would consider though what the value of all of your on-page links to your users are. Use a clicktracking service to see which links are getting used and which aren't and then a/b/n test removing or moving some.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Just viewed the google video on the subject. On the one hand this is great: google seem to have said clearly that the <100 links rule is an old rule and no longer very relevant. On the hand this invoke confidence in SEOMoz: if it's been noted as far back as February 2011 (date of the video) that this link rule no longer carries much if any weight then why are SEOMoz flagging it up for me as a yellow issue in Febraury 2013?
In addition to that the number of on-page links picked up the SEOMoz crawl do not add up: one page with 9 internal links / 16 if you include the navigation links are showing up as having 116 links on the same page... it may not be relevant if the <100 links issue isn't relevant but it's causing concern about the relevance and accuracy of the blog.
Point about outgoing PR being diluted by the number of links noted.
Anyway: thanks again, i've also sent you an example link via pm.
All the best,
Felix

Hi Felix,
Having more than 100 links on a page is usually not a problem, as long as you're not doing anything shady (it doesn't sound like you are). See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6g5hoBYlf0
Keep in mind that PageRank flows by being divided among each link on the page - so having more links means less PageRank flows to each one.
If you can provide one of the URLs, I can provide more detailed input.

Duplicate Content: Marketing Page / Content Page
So I am getting duplicate content warnings on my website for my pages white paper and webinar video pages. Each white paper / webinar video page is behind a marketing form page that must be filled out. I am getting a lot of warnings that the marketing page and the content page are being picked up as duplicated content. In the past, both the marketing page and the content page were given the same title and url, the body content is not similar. My question: Is the URL / Title similarity enough to set off the duplicate content warnings and would changing one or the other solve the issue?

Why does page report still have "Too Many Links" alert?
I'm a new Moz Pro user and see that the on-page optimization report includes "too many links" on page and references the "100 links" guideline that Google no longer endorses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=l6g5hoBYlf0 Too many links is still an issue in terms of passing link juice, but not much else. Matt Cutts has stated that it is fine to have many internal links in this regard. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Page Rank Report says #6 in Google but I can't find the page anywhere
So SEOMoz says that I've consistently ranked #6 for a certain keyword. But when I search I'm no where to be found. I've done regular searches, incognito and some non-seomoz reports and all come up with nothing in Google. I noticed it a week or two ago, but didn't think it would continue. This is no bueno. I wouldn't be surprised if I got penalized (luckily my homepage relatively well for similar keywords), an old seo consultant used very spammy tactics. I recently removed them, but not before I started to notice that I fell off the map. Why would SEOMoz not recognize this, and continue to say I'm ranking well? The keyword is bpi building analyst the page is http://www.cleanedison.com/courses/bpi-building-analyst

Duplicate content pages
Crawl Diagnostics Summary shows around 15,000 duplicate content errors for one of my projects, It shows the list of pages with how many duplicate pages are there for each page. But i dont have a way of seeing what are the duplicate page URLs for a specific page without clicking on each page link and checking them manually which is gonna take forever to sort. When i export the list as CSV, duplicate_page_content column doest show any data. Can anyone please advice on this please. Thanks <colgroup><col width="1096"></colgroup>

What's Happened To OSE's External Links For My Site?
Hi, I'm just taking my first steps with Open Site Explorer. I've hit a problem that I'd be really grateful for some help with. I'm running a website (that I didn't create) and want to get a clear picture of the inbound links. When I enter the URL into the OSE search bar, there are no external domains listed under the 'Inbound Links' and 'Linking Domains' tabs. Only internal site links are registered. Setting the filters, "only external" + "pages on this root domain", under the Inbound Links tab, does bring up a list of external sites. But I haven't had to enter filters just to see a list of inbound links with any other sites. Also, the breakdown under the Linking Domains tab remains the same - only links within my site are shown. Does this ring a bell? Any ideas what I might be doing wrong, or what might be wrong with my site to cause this problem? Cheers for helping, Josh

OpenSiteExplorer Doesn't Show accurate links
Why do I get different results from SEOmoz tool bar and OpenSiteExplorer for some sites. For instance I look at one site and toolbar says it has 101 link domains, so I check it in OpenSiteExplorer and it says 2 link domains...? Am I missing something, or is it just not working properly?

Why are these pages considered duplicate page content?
A recent crawl diagnostic for a client's website had several new duplicate page content errors. The problem is, I'm not sure where the error comes from since the content in the webpage is different from one another. Here's the pages that SEOMOZ reported to have duplicate page content errors: http://www.imaginet.com.ph/wireless-internet-service-providers-term http://www.imaginet.com.ph/antivirus-term http://www.imaginet.com.ph/berkeley-internet-name-domain http://www.imaginet.com.ph/customer-premises-equipment-term The only thing similar that I see is the headline which says "Glossary Terms Used in this Site" - I hope that the one sentence is the reason for the error. Any input is appreciated as I want to find out the best solution for my client's website errors. Thanks!
