Does having a page that ends with ? cause duplicate content?
-
I am working on a site that has lots of dynamic parameters. So lets say we have www.example.com/page?parameter=1
When the page has no parameters you can still end up at www.example.com/page?
Should I redirect this to www.example.com/page/ ?
Im not sure if Google ignores this, or if these pages need to be dealt with.
Thanks

Also, instruct Google on the way you want them to handles parameters (in webmaster tools).

Hi Spencer,
You can check relatively easily whether Google is ignoring it or not.
Type the following into a Google search: site:www.example.com/page?
If you see: www.example.com/page?parameter=1 AND www.example.com/page? in the SERP, then YES, Google is seeing duplicate content.
If you only see one version, that means that Google is probably ignoring the other version. Google does understand that some content management systems naturally produce “duplicate content.” In these cases Google just ignores one of them. If you think about it, this makes sense. If you have two very similar URLs with the same content, it probably isn’t intentional that you’d have duplicate content; however, if you have two VERY different URLs and have duplicate content on those… THEN you’d be a little more concerned.
Hope that helps.
Mike

Do you have a version of each page. www.example.com/page & www.example.com/page? ? Then yes this is duplicate content.

Google does treat pages with parameters as separate pages. The best way to avoid this is by not linking to pages with no parameters like example.com/page? Redirecting something like this would be tricky, so I would recommend just putting in a canonical tag in the header for parameter pages that don't significantly change the content of the page.

Dynamic Pages with No Results Causing Thin Content
Hi Mozers, We have dynamic listing pages that pull in clinical trial results for specific disease types. Sometimes diseases have clinical trials and sometimes they don't. This means that sometimes the page will have zero results and sometimes it will return results. We have a sizable number of these so that when there are zero results, these pages look like thin content. What is the recommended method of dealing with this? Is there a way of doing a conditional noindex where the page is indexed if results are pulled in and and not indexed when the page returns zero results? If we can do this, should we? Will it confuse Google and send negative signals? Any guidance/thoughts are much appreciated! Yael

Loading Content Asynchronously for Page Speed Purposes?
Pages for my companies play process load slowly because the process is heavy. Below the play process there is a block of text, put mostly there for SEO purposes. R&D are proposing to load the SEO Area only after the play process is loading.

This seems like a very bad solution, because loading the SEO Area asynchronously will make the content unreadable to Google. Am I missing something?0 -
Duplicate content within sections of a page but not full page duplicate content
Hi, I am working on a website redesign and the client offers several services and within those services some elements of the services crossover with one another. For example, they offer a service called Modelling and when you click onto that page several elements that build up that service are featured, so in this case 'mentoring'. Now mentoring is common to other services therefore will feature on other service pages. The page will feature a mixture of unique content to that service and small sections of duplicate content and I'm not sure how to treat this. One thing we have come up with is take the user through to a unique page to host all the content however some features do not warrant a page being created for this. Another idea is to have the feature pop up with inline content. Any thoughts/experience on this would be much appreciated.

Finding Duplicate Content Spanning more than one Site?
Hi forum, SEOMoz's crawler identifies duplicate content within your own site, which is great. How can I compare my site to another site to see if they share "duplicate content?" Thanks!

How do I fix the error duplicate page content and duplicate page title?
On my site www.millsheating.co.uk I have the error message as per the question title. The conflict is coming from these two pages which are effectively the same page: www.millsheating.co.uk www.millsheating.co.uk/index I have added a htaccess file to the root folder as I thought (hoped) it would fix the problem but I doesn't appear to have done so. this is the content of the htaccess file: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^millsheating.co.uk RewriteRule (.*) http://www.millsheating.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index\.html\ HTTP/ RewriteRule ^index\.html$ http://www.millsheating.co.uk/ [R=301,L] AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

The system shows duplicate content for the same page (main domain and index.html). Is this an error of SEOMOZ?
Should I be worried that this will affect SEO? Most sites redirect to the index.html page, right? [edited by staff to remove toolbar data]
