Backlinks: Majestic SEO vs. OSE
-
My apologies if this noob question has already been answered somewhere, but what's the difference between the backlinks reported by Majestic SEO vs. the links reported by OSE. Just curious why the former might report 2,360 external backlinks to a page and the latter might report 949 total links to the same page.
Just curious. Thanks!

Majestic = Lots of quantity, some quality
OSE = Some quantity, lots of quality (although it's more than just "some" quantity now really)With the sample sizes there are, the quantity from OSE is usually more than sufficient so you don't actually need all the links to get a picture of what's going on. Plus if OSE isn't showing particular links then those are likely to be pretty low quality links anyway because if the site the link is coming from is worth anything then OSE will have crawled it (because enough other sites would have linked into it)... also OSE is getting bigger and bigger all the time.
I do use Majestic too, but you can get a lot more insight from OSE results.
Plus, some of the links Majestic pulls in are things like other little search engine's indexes, more pages than is necessary from any one domain (sitewides, etc...) and other stuff that's not of that much use anyway.

Hi Ary,
Can you let us know if email notifications aren't working for you? Rand, the CEO of SEOmoz, has responded to your question on the other thread, as well as Cyrus, an SEOmoz associate who used to be an SEOmoz employee.

Now that Y!SE has died the SEO community is looking alternatives.
The most stable tools our there are OSE with its DA parameter and Majestic tool.
Does DA and PA Seomoz parameters have all it takes to replace YSE? Still being a not answered question.
What the OSE can offer that Majestic and Y!SE don't have?
I'll really appreciate SEOmoz staff comments on this matter.
Thanks ahead!

Thanks for the responses!

Yeah Majestic is good, but I prefer OSE for sure.

Majestic SEO always pulls in more links than OSE. OSE tends to pull in a 'random sample' of the total links, it misses many but offers more in-depth data than Majestic SEO besides the total # of links.

Relevancy vs Quality of the website in blog commenting
For example, I would like to comment on a do follow blog with my link inserted in the comment. The blog post is relevant with the link i inserted however there are too many spammy links on the comment. Will this affect my website in terms of "link neighborhood" even my site is relevant to the blog? how do you judge whether the blog is worth commenting and putting your link on it? Does link building on blog comments actually hurt the page rank of websites if it go wrong such as spammy sites?

What's the best SEO way to benefit from your competitor's shutting down?
Hi ! Our main competitor is shutting down (website will be offline) at the end of the month and we are negotiating with them to buy their domain name: the idea would be to take advantage of their good rankings in the SERPs to redirect traffic to our pages (we're planning to crawl their site or get their sitemap and redirect th category / product pages to ours). The question is: for how long this strategy will be useful: days / weeks / months? (= for how long their pages will continue to appear in the SERPs from the day we enable the 301 redirections to our site?) Thanks in advance for your help! And if you have better suggestions, we're up to hear them of course.. 😉 Cheers

We are a car leasing company based in the UK and need an SEO agency to help us rank in a very competitive market. We have a relatively small budget of £2500 - £4000 per month. I appreciate this not a massive budget but that is where we are at. Any input would be much appreciated. Regards

Use of competitive kw search software for KW discovery for SEO
I use traditional methods for keyword discovery, but occured to me that perhaps competitive keyword software should be applied to competitor's sites for further possibilitites. Any opinions or experience using this strategy? I know it used primarily for PPC, but value for SEO KW discovery? Any personal recommendations on which programs considered most effective? Thanks.
