Does Prefix of my URL make any difference?
-
Hello,
I have a website which is initially appeared in search engine as without www. Last week I made changes in preferred domain name that it appeared with www.
In search engine it still shows as without www. I notified to google through webmaster tools that now my domain name is with www but it still shows without www.
I want to know that does it affect in SEO and rankings.
In Google webmaster tools I added my url with and without www however I kept preferred domain as with www.
Do I need to make any extra changes in order to avoid confusion for search engines.
Please guide.
Thanks

Hi,
In google webmaster tools my sitemap was not added before now I added sitemap to www.mydomain.com.
I have also add mydomain.com (without wwww) to google webmaster tools so do I require to add sitemap to mydomain.com also?
When I added www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com to google webmaster tools so does google see it as one site or two however I kept preferred domain as www.mydomain.com
Thanks

Hi,
Yes, I still would. What I have suggested will only take 2 minutes and is considered best practice.
For non-www to www use;
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yourdomain.com/$1 [L,R=301]

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
To avoid confusion I already set preferred domain as www.
Even I performed site verification process by Google webmaster tools.
After doing all above do I require to perform as you suggested.
Thanks

Hi Bhadresh,
Potentially yes... Subdomain are considered as separate sites and although most sites will render in both www and non-www versions by default, loosely the www version is still a subdomain.
On top of this dilemma is that when you are link building (or better still link earning) people will link to a variety of www and non-www URL's, this will affect how your site performs. By redirecting one to another for any given page you will ensure only one page exists.
Here is the example given by SitePoint for redirecting www to non-www, feel free to review the original post for other .htaccess rules...
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.yourdomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://yourdomain.com/$1 [L,R=301]
Hope this helps!

Change of URLs - Part of Migration
We are looking to change our URLs to this format /SKU/TITLE/COLOUR as part of our SEO migration.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | christwix
e.g. https://example.com.au/ac-rck-b/rolla-crew-knit/berry.html As of the moment, our URLs are TITLE/NO
e.g. https://example.com.au/rolla-crew-knit/6562563.html
(Shopify is creating a random number on the end of the URL which is representing a different colour) Is this fine SEO wise? Will this affect rankings and user experience?0 -
What is the Redirect Rule for corresponding https urls to new domain with the same https urls?
2 sites have the same urls but the owner wants just the 1 site. So I will be doing a 301 redirect with .htaccess from https://www.example.co.uk/sportsbook/SOCCER/today/ redirecting to https://www.example.com//sportsbook/SOCCER/today/ There are a lot of urls that are the same, so I was wondering what the rule is to put in the file please that will change them all to the corresponding urls? Would this be correct?... RewriteEngine on

Then of course doing a change of address of address in webmaster tools after. Also... do I still need to do the forwarding from the https://www.example.co.uk/ domain provider after as well? Does the url in for your homepage impact SEO
Is there any harm to SEO having a homepage url that is not clean like www.domain.com. For example citi uses https://online.citi.com/US/login.do Does that matter in any way? Would a company like citi benefit from changing to www.citi.com as their homepage?

Migrating to WooCommerce, similar product descriptions but with different urls, cant use variations.
Hi! Ime quite new to SEO and to woocommerce so please help out with this one.. We are migrating from Ithemes Exchange over to WooCommerce and i have come up with some issues. We are selling adhesives and some of the products have the same name and description, the only thing that seperates them are sometimes the widht, or the length on the roll.. As we have it now we have a separate product page for each widht and length. For example here http://siga-sverige.se/siga/fentrim-2-100/ and here http://siga-sverige.se/siga/fentrim-2-150/ The above product pages are for a product called Fentrim 2. its availiable in widhts from 75 to 300mm.. so, its six diffent products pages with more or less the same description. I get that this will create duplicate content, couse the description on the pages are similar.. We cant use variations in woocommerce, couse this cant be set up to exactly match our shipping needs, so, we need them on separate pages.. Soo, my plan is to set a new product page for Fentrim 2, ex http://siga-sverige.se/siga/fentrim-2 and then set that url as canonical url for the variations of the product.. Am i on the right track? Gratefull for any help on this one! / Jonas

Cleaning up backlinks and changing URLs
Currently we are performing very poorly in organic clicks. We are a e-commerce site with over 2000 products. Issues we thought plagued us: Copied Images from competitors Site wide duplicate content duplicate content from competitor site Number of internal links on a page (300+) Bad backlinks (2.3k from 22 domains and ips) being linked to from sites like m.biz URLs URLs are abbreviated, over 50% lack our keywords Lack of meta descriptions, or too long meta descriptions Current State of fixing these issues: 50% images are now our own Site wide duplicate content near 100% completed Internal links have been dealt with Rewrote content for every product 90% of meta descriptions are fixed From all of these changes we have yet to see increase in traffic...10% increase at best in organic clicks. We think we have penalties on certain URLs. My question for the MOZ community is what is the best way to attack the lack of organic clicks. Our main competition is getting 900% more clicks than us. Any more information you need on the topic let me know and will get back to you.

Why is this url redirecting to our site?
I was doing an audit on our site and searching for duplicate content using some different terms from each of our pages. I came across the following result: www.sswug.org/url/32639 redirects to our website. Is that normal? There are hundreds of these url's in google all with the exact same description. I thought it was odd. Any ideas and what is the consequence of this?

What are partial urls and why this is causing a sitemap error?
Hi mozzers, I have a client that recorded 7 errors when generating Xml sitemap. One of the errors appear to be coming from partial urls and apparently I would need to exclude them from sitemap. What are they exactly and why would they cause an error in the sitemap. Thanks!
