Improvement in rankings then site dissapears from SERPS?
-
Yesterday I saw significant improvements in rankings and the first page resulapp for several keywords appeared to have changed and included my site. Today the results appear to have reverted back and my site is nowhere to be seen. At least before I was in the top 100 but now I'm nowhere?
-
Unfortunately, all we can do sometimes is to keep marching forward and observe. If no improvement comes at some point, then more answers need to be sought out.
-
Yea it's still in the index. Its about 6 months old but I've only been working on it the last couple of months. I guess its just a waiting game.
-
My best suggestion is to give it a bit of time to see what happens. How long has the site been up? If it's been a short while (relatively speaking) it can take longer to stabilize.
Alternately, have you done a site: check to see if it's at least still in the index?
-
Should I expect my site to bounce back at some point? I've been link building but via guest posts which as far as I understand is white hat. I've been careful to vary anchor texts and use url/brand linking. I think if it was an anchor text penalty it would apply to that specific page. It seems odd the site is not returned in the SERPS for any keywords whatsoever.

Until a site reaches a point of stabilization, rankings could very well fluctuate. Many reasons can cause this.
1. Search engines continually test different results.
2. More than one algorithm has to be processed and they don't all update on the same day. So one algorithm may assign a certain ranking value, and another may alter that.
3. An algorithm update could literally change the landscape overnight. Even that could be temporary since updates are followed by real world reviews of their impact, and adjustments can be made.
4. Other sites in the system for those phrases could have had significant changes to their SEO or the way algorithms view those as well.
For all of these reasons and more, this is why short term evaluations are difficult at best to understand, and trends are more important.

Site Speed Testing Tools For Production Sites
Hi Guys, Any free site speed testing tools for sites in production, which are password protected? We want to test site speed before the new site goes live on top priority pages. Site is on Shopify – we tried google page insights while being logged into the production site but believe its just recording the speed of the password page. Cheers.

Weird behavior with site's rankings
I have a problem with my site's rankings.

I rank for higher difficulty (but lower search volume) keywords , but my site gets pushed back for lower difficulty, higher volume keywords, which literally pisses me off. I thought very seriously to start new with a new domain name, cause what ever i do seems that is not working. I will admit that in past (2-3 years ago) i used some of those "seo packages" i had found, but those links which were like no more than 50, are all deleted now, and the domains are disavowed.
The only thing i can think of, is that some how my site got flagged as suspicious or something like that in google. Like 1 month ago, i wrote an article about a topic related with my niche, around a keyword that has difficulty 41%. The search term in 1st page has high authority domains, including a wikipedia page, and i currently rank in the 3rd place. In the other had, i would expect to rank easily for a keyword difficulty of 30-35% but is happening the exact opposite. The pages i try to rank, are not spammy, are checked with moz tools, and also with canirank spam filters. All is good and green. Plus the content of those pages i try to rank have a Content Relevancy Score which varies from 98% to 100%... Your opinion would be very helpful, thank you.0 -
What has a better chance of ranking alongside my main site for my company name, a subdomain or new domain?
Hi Moz, Do search engines really treat subdomains as separate domains in this regard? Or are we more likely to get more real estate on the first page with a new domain? Our goal is to have our main site and this new subdomain or domain ranking in positions 1 and 2 for our company name. This is going to be a careers site/portal. Thanks for reading!

Our site has been penalized and it's proving to be very hard to get our rankings back...
So I have a question. We have used nearly every trick in the book to rank our site, including a ton of white hat stuff.... but then also a lot of black hat practices that resulted in us dropping in the rankings by about 30-40 positions. And getting back to where we were (top 10 for most keywords) is proving to be nearly impossible. We have a ton of great content coming off of the site and we actually offer a quality product. We follow most of the guidelines advocated here on SEOmoz. But the black hat stuff we did has really taken a toll. And it's gonna be pretty much impossible to go back in time and erase all of the Black Hat stuff we did. So what should we do? Should we design a completely new website with a new domain? What can be done to help?

Newish site dropped out of rankings - is this normal?
I've got a small, 3 month old site that was ranking for a few low-competition keywords. Then, yesterday, it dropped out of the rankings almost completely. The only way to find it is to google the URL/site name, and then it does come up. There are pages in the index, they're just not ranking like they did two days ago. I'm not doing anything black hat or even slightly shady - just writing articles and clean link building. Is this a normal part of the Google process? I've never seen it happen on any other sites I've been involved with.
