Duplicate Content Issue because of root domain and index.html
-
SEOMoz crawl diagnostics is suggesting that my root domain and the rootdomain/index.html are duplicate content. What can be done to ensure that both are considered as a single age only?

Worked like a charm, exactly what i needed, thanks for posting!

Thank You . It is working fine now

Add this to your .htaccess file
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./index.html?\ HTTP/
RewriteRule ^(.)index.html?$ "/$1" [R=301,L]This will redirect attempts to hit index.html back to root.

Accurate Google Keyword Ranking for a domain
Hi Folks, SEO N00b here, in a new job so please go easy on me if i ask stupid questions. I'm looking for some clarification on Google Keyword rankings. I am looking for accurate Google Keywords rankings as when I log into Google Webmaster Tools I am given values like (6-10) for a ranking? When I used SEOMoz (Research Tools -> Keyword & Ranking -> Rank Tracker) it gives me an even less accurate range by simply saying >#50?Why is SEOMoz giving a completely useless metric? Why is its actual rank not shown? I know rankings are becoming less useful as a metric with Google moving toward personalized search but I still have reports to deliver to clients so the conversation of what metrics are going in the report is to be had another day. Right now I just want to get accurate rankings, from what I've found online Google Webmaster tools is recommended as the de-facto ranking tool but it doesn't provide accurate results so how can that be (yes I know it averages out the ranking but 6-10 is a range of values not a single value that represents an average) Dave

Website not being indexed by Google - does seomoz have a index checker?
i have been to a couple of index checking websites that are saying my website is not being indexed, my developer and seo team have been making a lot of changes recently and I think it is because of that. Also my first byte grade is D. Can I check here on seomoz if my site is being indexed by Google here in the UK?

Duplicate content
Hi Since adding blog to a site semoz is reporting increased duplicate content warning on seomoz crawl error tool such as: /blog/category/easter being a duplicate of blog/2013/03 Does this type of dupe content matter ? If so how do you stop this ? Also pages and pages of dupe content reported from internal/site search results, such as: /catalogsearch/result/index/?q=mens+fashion being a duplicate of /catalogsearch/result/?q=mens+fashion Does this matter need to be fixed or since internal site search not an issue and can just ignore, if it is an issue what do you need do to fix this type of dupe content ? Cheers Dan

Sudden, drastic drop in # of links and root domains on website?
Noticed that my links and root domain numbers had dropped by ~40%, seemingly overnight. Any idea what could have contributed to this (Toolbar update???)?

Page Authority vs Domain Authority
I'm using the site explorer to compare a potential clients site against 4 others, in an incredibly competitive market. Each of their competitiors has a higher page authority (on the home page) than their domain authority. This is untrue for the clients site. (which have much lower metrics all round) Any input as to what this means/says about their competitors who I would guess (looking at some of their backlink profiles) have done some failry widespread grey hat stuff in the past. (Though haven't we all 😉 )
