How to fix joomla duplicate page titles??
-
Hello,
I have been using seomoz and sh404sef for almost a month now and can't seem to figure out my duplicate page title issue on my joomla site. I have changed everything I thought necessary but no luck. I have one page that I am trying to make dissapear from duplicate page title error and if I can figure it out i'm sure I can use same fix for the other 1,000 duplicate page titles being reported in my seomoz crawl report
I have one link that I am working with
sef url: http://www.mysite.com/contactus.html
I have used sh404sef url manager and added page title, description and keywords to this link and for 3 weeks straight now it still shows that it is duplicate page title in my seomoz crawl report
Is there something that I am missing somewhere or did i setup a bad campaign that is looking at wrong things on site? I 've attached image of my sh404sef settings for this link
Thanks in advance

Hello Jesslyn,
Like I said before, Joomla is not one of my specialties but I'll try to help.
You need to edit the file /components/com_sh404sef/shPageRewrite.php to add the code.
How did you install joomla and what hosting provider are you using?

Hello Dezmond and Ricardo,..
I also have the same problem with Dezmond. I got the my crawl report that there are more than 1000 duplicate page. here is the example of my duplicate page content:
http://www.myknitt.com/vmchk/Dog-Clothes/Dog-Sport-Clothes-On-Striped-Yellow-Green-DK812.html?flypage=
http://www.myknitt.com/vmchk/Dog-Clothes/Dog-Sport-Clothes-On-Striped-Yellow-Green-DK812/flypage.tpl.html?pop=0I also have the same problem with Dezmond. There is a duplicate page on contactus.
this is the blog that is written something about canonical page that can be fixed by SH404SEF. They said, it can be fixed by tweaking the code at the SH404SEF. but since I am a newbie for this SEO, I really need any guidance how to tweak the code.
http://www.cybersalt.org/joomla/canonical-urls-in-sh404sef
http://www.brucerick.com/joomlas-sh404sef-and-canonical-links.html
Can you please let me know how and where to copy paste the code of this ?
*/
// CANONICAL LINK FIX$buffer = shInsertCustomTagInBuffer( $buffer, '', 'before', '', 'first');
//CANONICAL LINK FIX - END
// all done
return $buffer;I really hope there will be a new hint for us
Thank you.

I'm not very familiar with jomsocial, but they probably have a way to do it with the profiles/username path. Take a look at their documentation at http://documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Main_Page and also the support forum http://www.jomsocial.com/forum/category/list.
After thatall you have to do is add these lines at your robots.txt file:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /profiles/This way no profiles will be indexed.
-
thanks so much for response!! How exactly would I go about moving the jomsocial profiles to a new domain? Is that something i do on the backend of joomla or cpanel. I love the mynaturalhairstyle.com/profiles/username route but not sure where to start with this? Also, does this mean I have to go into every profile/page and do some manual no index robot work?
Thanks again!
-
Sorry for the delay. I didn't see your answer before.
The first big problem I see in duplicate content is the way that the profiles are designed. You should noindex all the profiles because if someone don't fill up anything in the profile it is going to be exactly like any other empty profile.
There are two ways to fix that:
- create a subdomain to the profiles and noindex it. example: subdomain.mynaturalhairstyle.com/username
- move the profile path from the root domain to some thing else and noindex it. example: mynaturalhairstyle.com/profiles/username
After doing that run another crawl and we can take a look in the rest of the pages...

Is this screenshot good enough or may you need other pages as well??
thanks

Here is one page out of the 20 pages from crawl report....one other link i had added metadata to was the

I did everything i could think of in sh404sef from title, description and keywords but still popped up in crawl this week.
Thankks

Just screenshot the report so we know which pages are getting flaged.
-
Its over 20 pages....should i send the csv file or just screenshot one of the pages?? Thanks so much for your help
-
Please, take a screenshot of seomoz report so we can take a look....

Which is better? One dynamically optimised page, or lots of optimised pages?
For the purpose of simplicity, we have 5 main categories in the site - let's call them A, B, C, D, E. Each of these categories have sub-category pages e.g. A1, A2, A3. The main area of the site consists of these category and sub-category pages. But as each product comes in different woods, it's useful for customers to see all the product that come in a particular wood, e.g. walnut. So many years ago we created 'woods' pages. These pages replicate the categories & sub-categories but only show what is available in that particular wood. And of course - they're optimised much better for that wood. All well and good, until recently, these specialist page seem to have dropped through the floor in Google. Could be temporary, I don't know, and it's only a fortnight - but I'm worried. Now, because the site is dynamic, we could do things differently. We could still have landing pages for each wood, but of spinning off to their own optimised specific wood sub-category page, they could instead link to the primary sub-category page with a ?search filter in the URL. This way, the customer is still getting to see what they want. Which is better? One page per sub-category? Dynamically filtered by search. Or lots of specific sub-category pages? I guess at the heart of this question is? Does having lots of specific sub-category pages lead to a large overlap of duplicate content, and is it better keeping that authority juice on a single page? Even if the URL changes (with a query in the URL) to enable whatever filtering we need to do.

I'm looking to put a quite length FAQs tab on product pages on an ecommerce site. Am I likely to have duplicate content issues?
On an ecommerce site we have unique content on the product pages (i.e. descriptions), as well as the usual delivery and returns tabs for customer convenience. From this we haven't had any duplicate content issues or warnings, which seems to be the case industry-wide. However, we're looking to add a more lengthy FAQs tab which is still highly relevant to the customer but contains a lot more text than the other tabs. The product descriptions are also relatively small. Do you think this will cause potential duplicate content issues or should it be treated the same as a delivery tab, for instance?

How dangerous are duplicate page titles
We ran a SEO crawl and on our report it flag up duplicate pages titles, we investigate further and found that these were page titles from the same product line that had more than one page, e.g 1-50 (products) 51-100 (products) with a next button to move to the following 50 products. These where flagged as duplicate page titles ".../range-1/page-1" and ".../range-1/page-2" These titles are obviously being read as duplicates but because they are the same range we do not know what the best course of action is. We want to know how detrimental these page titles will be to our SEO if at all. If anyone could shed some light on this issue it would be a massive help. Thanks

Offer landing page, duplicate content and noindex
Hi there I'm setting up a landing page for an exclusive offer that is only available (via a link) to a particular audience. Although I've got some specific content (offer informaiton paragraph), i want to use some of the copy and content from one of my standard product pages to inform the visitors about what it is that i'm trying to sell them. Considering I'm going to include a noindex on this page, do i need to worry about it having some content copied directly from another page on my site? Thanks

Source page leading to a 404 pages in reports
Hi everybody, I wonder how to find and quickly correct 404 errors in my crawl reports : SeoMoz says me "http://domain.com/this-page-is-dead" is 404, but I can't figure out a source page where a link to that url appears. I tried a google link:http://domain.com/this-page-is-dead request, with no more luck. I imagine the trick is trivial, but I need it 🙂 Moreover, why do not show a list of pages referring to this 404 page on reports ? Thanks, Loïc

Include the company/domain name in page titles and urls?
I know this isn't something that I would use site-wide but I'm wondering if it helps or hurts me to use my company name (also my domain name) in pages below the homepage. As an example, let's say I'm Home Depot. In the category pages off the homepage should I use Page names and urls like Home and Garden Supplies or Home and Garden Supplies at Home Depot? Or does it hurt me to reuse my company/domain name on multiple pages?
