Refining Keyword Research
-
I am looking to refine my Keyword research process.
Currently I use 4 keyword tools to get volume, competition and of course other ideas.
From there I try to distill it down to categories and then order on ability to drive traffic and convert.
Anyone have something they can share maybe from the excel side, maybe from the tool side...
something to help me make this easy and great.

I would encourage you to look at Google Webmaster Tool data and observe clickthrough rate averages around different keywords and derive phrase potential by predicting traffic scenarios if position for that phrase increased by n positions and how much it would yield in terms of conversions.

How to find long tail keywords?
I need ideas for finding long tail keywords, I do have a few tools that I make use of but I guess I'm just getting the same results as everyone else will be getting. Ideas please? (And thank you!)

Where to use which keywords...
After doing keyword research and coming up with a list of keywords/phrases that I'd like to optimise a specific page for (an additional page to an existing website), I get confused about WHERE to use which keywords. For example, choosing between two keywords like home insurance and specialist home insurance. Let's say home insurance is more searched than the other, and but is more difficult to rank for, and specialist home insurance is less searched but easier to rank for. Firstly, which one should I use as my "main keyword" and secondly, what benefit does the other keyword(s) then have on the rest of the page, and were do I use them? I hope this makes sense. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Google keyword rankings
I show a MON icon (it looks like a calendar page) for all my google rankings. The icon is not clickable. Can anybody tell me what this is? Also, I use to be highly ranked in 100's of keywords in google now barely anything. The domain is several years old and has performed in well in the past. Can't figure out what is going on.

Keyword Difficulty Tool
Hello, I've been using the above more and more - with some great results. I have just run a report for a brand term and that brand has the new style sitelinks - 12 in total. So the output from the Keyword Difficulty Tool is focussed solely on the main url and then 9 sitelinks, rather than 10 different domains. Is there anyway around this? What do people think I should do? Is it: a) ok to use the output or b) because the output is skewed to one domain is the data not robust enough or... c) something else?? Thanks Alex

Best Keyword Research Tool / Strategy / Approach?
Currently, I list every root word (one word) I can think of for the client. Then start a 2 word keyword section, making every possible connection with my root words. Then move to 3 word, 4 word, and so on. I do this all in a word document and by hand. Does anybody have ANYTHING (tool/strategy) that does something similar? I'm looking for anything that can expedite this process. My manual method makes me feel like I'm always forgetting certain combinations of words.

Top Ranking sites for specific keywords
Is there a way to put in a list of targeted keywords and see what the top 5 sites on Google are? There are several competitor tools in SEOmoz but I can't find anything that would allow you to do that. I have a list of 40 or so keywords that I would like to check what sites are in the top 3 positions on Google for each of the keywords. Thanks in advance

Google SERPS for similar Keywords?
I have website which is being listed for a keyword which is not in the site. It seems that google is using a Thesaurus to find words with similar meaning. Is this right? How could this be used for SEO purposes?
