Local searh results instant preview photo problem
-
A search result that contains my google plus / places page in the local results is not displaying photos correctly in the preview. It shows an image that appears to represent a broken link or missing image, however, when you click on the "See Photos" link it to takes you to the G+ page that displays the photos without any issues.
I also checked the google places account and the photos appear fine in my dashboard. It's seems like maybe a 3rd party uploaded photos or something? It may have to do with the recent upgrade to pages at Google +? (Thats another story, thanks for making me create a circular logo and a cover photo that doesn't style well in your mobile app)
Anyway, any thoughts? Where are these photos coming from, plus or places account? I submitted the question on google groups and a non googler told me to submit photos from a unrelated account.. This seems like gaming the system to me and when I looked into it, it takes me to the Google + page..
Search URL - I am first result in local, Yale Creek Seasonal Care.
Also, I noticed the G+ account says service area is 20 miles from address while I specifically selected an area greater than that in my places account.. So what is it plus or places?!?!? The way they are rolling out this move to plus is frustrating! As a consumer, I prefer listings without the plus page!!

Sounds like a good idea.
How to poke a listing. Sign into your Google Places account, click edit, DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING, but hit submit. Google reps have actually recommended poking a listing on occasion (maybe every few weeks or once a month) helps to keep the listing fresh. Sometimes it clears up data issues, so it might be worth trying, in your case.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Miriam.. I will try having my wife add photos to the G± listing from her account..
No, I am not familiar with "poke."

Hi DWallner,
I found your Google And Your Business Forum thread, here:
The fellow who wrote to you is a Google Top Contributor, which, while not being the same thing as a Google staffer, is the next best thing. However, his suggestion in his last response to you is not appropriate, as I am assuming your business is a service radius business, and therefore, is ineligible for merging.
Google Places still exists as the dashboard via which service radius business like yours can control their local listing. On the public side, what you put in your Google Places dashboard is what should display on your Google+ Local page (Google's new public local product).
I agree, what you are experiencing is very odd. You have a ton of images on your +Local page to choose from, but Google is displaying some type of weird placeholder for you in the preview. While not a disastrous thing, I agree you are right to want to discover the cause of this.
I have seen this suggestion, elsewhere, of trying to upload a photo through the public option. I don't consider this gaming the system. It's an experiment to see if you can jog Google into displaying something for your business. The image system is buggy and it can still take several weeks for photos to appear, though often it is faster than this now.
My only other suggestion would be to poke the listing. Have you tried this? If you don't know what 'poking' is, just ask, and I'll explain it.
I don't have an answer for why you are experiencing this. It could well be a bug, but, if it is, I'm not finding documentation of similar problems in the places I would expect to find such reports. Please, follow up with me on the above.

My blog post for a specific keyword is in the 'omitted results'. Why might this be, and how to overcome it?
My website Homepage: http://kulraj.org Here is the page I am working to rank for:** http://kulraj.org/2014/07/15/hedonic-treadmill/** When I search specifically for 'kulraj hedonic treadmill' just to test it, the first result is this: kulraj.org_/tag/_hedonic-treadmill. It shows the shortened version of the article that is within the Tag page. [I'm new to SEO and Moz, please keep in mind] Moz has told me I have duplicate content, which is regarding my main Blog page and Tags page, which is true the content is duplicate. However, the actual blog post itself is not displayed anywhere else on the website, or anywhere else on the web. Moz confirms this, and reports no duplicate content warning. My questions, therefore, are: 1. How do I actually go about installing a rel canonical tag within a standard WordPress dashboard (I'm using Genesis Framework) - I'm finding great difficulty finding instructions on this anywhere on the web. I clearly need to fix the issue with Blog page and Tags Page. 2. Why would my blog post be omitted, and are there any suggestions I could implement to bring it into the main search results. Other things I've noticed: 1. If I type this URL in: kulraj.org/hedonic-treadmill, it automatically redirects to http://kulraj.org/2014/07/15/hedonic-treadmill/ 2. Inside Google Webmaster Tools it says: No new messages or recent critical issues. 3. Regarding the above, when I click 'Labs > author stats' within Webmaster Tools, it shows nil stats, so something there is not quite right either, even though Google+ Authorship is confirmed.

How to add business address in local directories for consistent NAP
Hi Mozers I keep puzzling over this one! I work from home and really don't want to plaster my address all over the web. The GP page now allows for me to hide my exact location, which is great. However, as far as I can see this is not the case with all the potential local directories and listings. I have been trying in to get around this by not adding my house number and last digit and 2 characters of my post code. So far this has been allowed by the local listings I have signed up with. When I tried doing as recommended by the excellent Miriam and checking my business name with 'Getlisted' I found that I could only see these local listings if I added the doctored address, i.e. no house number or full postcode. My question, finally is, if I continue in this fashion for businesses based at home addresses am I going to confuse the search engines. I want to provide a consistent NAP but GPP insists that I add a full postcode. The only way I could possible see around this is to add: street name city full postcode and omit the house name/number. Will this be a reasonable work around to maintain client confidentiality and satisfy the NAP requirement of Local search?

"Products 1-20" text in the Serp Results
We have e-commence site (zen-cart) and we use our category pages (which has the list of the products) as landing pages. In the Serp results our link is showing up like this Our Page Title www.link.com Rich snip stuff Products 1 - 40 of 93 - Meta Description text I just wanted to know where its getting the "Products 1 - 40 of 93" from, and can it be removed (if we wanted to)? On the landing page say "Displaying 1 to 40 (of 93 products)", But i looked in to the source and it does not say "Products 1 - 40 of 93" anywhere, so google must be coming up with that text. I have noticed other zen-cart sites have the same text, and other e-commence sites have something similar like " 20+ Products"

Local SEO best practices for multiple locations
When dealing with local search for a business with multiple locations, I've always created an individual page for each location. Aside from the address and business name being in there, I also like to make sure the title tag and other important markup features the state/city/suburb, or, in the case of hyper-local, hyper-competitive markets, information more specific than that. It's worked very well so far. But, the one thing you can always count on with Local is that the game keeps changing. So I'd like to hear what you think... How do you deal with multiple locations these days? Has Google (and others, of course) advanced far enough to not mess things up if you put multiple locations on the same page? (Do I hear snickers? Be nice now) How does Schema.org fit in to your tactics in this area, if at all? Cheers (Edit: dear SEOmoz, stop eating my line breaks)
