How to beat directories in local search.
-
After just a couple months I'm placing on the first page for some keywords but I need advice on how to get over the hump.
Search results for "Lakeville Snow Plowing" and "Lakeville Snow Removal" return directory results for the 1rst 3 listings above the local results.. I'm right below that at 5 and 7.. (I'm not showing up in local results even though I have a radius but that's another issue)
Any tips or advice to compete against these type of results rather than a direct competitor? How does a small company with limited to no budget go about outranking BBB and Manta.com?
I'm considering purchasing the BBB membership, and I imagine a link from them would be helpful, other than that, I could use some advice.

Correct. My reasoning for concentrating on the local results is that if I am looking for snow removal service, I am not going to check the BBB. I am going to check the local results and see if there are any reviews on the different companies (hint: get your customers to review your company!!!)
I quickly took a look at your site and you are on the right track with having landing pages for Burnsville and Lakeville. You just need to have these locations and the services for those locations more pronounced on your site.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike..
So your suggestion would be to focus on the local results instead of organic results, correct?
I have a challenge there as the business is run out of a home in New Market, but my target locations are lakeville, apple valley and so on. I listed the cities in google places account but there seems to be a conflict with my G+ account that has me verified in New Market.. Anyway, that's probably another question topic..
The site is yalecreeksc.com

Go Minnesota!
Those blizzard conditions yesterday made for an interesting commute in the AM.
Any who... to your question.
I don't think there is anything you can do for those specific keywords. Those keywords are more or less asking Google for a listing of snow removal companies in the Lakeville area. The "best" results then would be a directory. For those keywords, Google automatically is doing the 3 websites, then returning the local results.
If you do a search for straight up, "snow removal" Google will return local results first without the 3 websites first.
My best advice to you is to get ranking #1 for the local results for those keywords. Since I don't know the name of your company/website, that is about all of the help I can give you.
Good luck Derrick,
Mike

The competitors that compete for the same keywords as this domain, ranked by visibility. Other websites that compete with this domain for the same keywords, ranked by visibility. Visibility (What does the visibility rating mean on this report)?
For example: If you have a visibility of 8.33 on this report and your competitor has a rating of 6.21 or 4.64, is your visibility better than theirs?0 -
Lost Search Ranking - how to fix spammy backlinks
I have a health niche website ( grocare.com ) Recently I subscribed to ahrefs and moz and found out so many spammy backlinks to my site (which i didn't create). Someone told me this is a common competitor tactic. To create bad links for your website to drank it. My question is - in ahrefs now, there are a LOT of spammy anchors and it seems more backlinks are being created by spammy websites automatically. I have lost many rankings because of this. I tried diluting by creating more normal anchors but it doesnt seem to be working. How do I fix this ? Any help is apprecciated xVrvj1q

Strange google search - help me mozzers
Hey Mozzers How Are You All? Hope You Are Doing Well. 🙂 I need your help. I have been having a very bad experience with Google. 😞 Do you know what is "Google Dance"? Somewhere I have heard about this. I don't have even clearance about Google Dance. BTW, the problem is that i have an adult video site about a porns tar. I was ranking at 3-6 position on a "particular keyword" on google. But about 20 days ago when i searched my "keyword term", I could not find it anywhere even on page 50 in Google search. 😄 My heartbeat was gone faster. As i was getting 25k visitors from google of that keyword. 🙂 Then i looked at my webmaster tools to check "manual spam action". There was no issue with spam or anything related to it. Then i checked my google analytics i was getting visitors from google but not from the 'particular keyword'. I was sure it was not "google hit or penalized". I could not find the exact reason why did it happen. I checked my sites everything seems to be fine. Then i did "fetch as google" and the strange thing was happened, my site pop up again in google on "that keyword". But this not the end. From that day my search keyword was getting vanish within 24 hours or more in google. And i do google fetch and it again comes to search results. 😄 I tried moz tools. no such issue. Though i cannot sort out the whole matter. What’s wrong going with google. Its an adult site, otherwise I would provide my site url and the keyword. By the way, I have attached some screenshots. I am waiting for your help. Thanks to all. 🙂 gyKIRVW

Local Monthly Searches for a particular city
I'm not exactly new to SEO but totally new to local SEO. How do I check monthly searches for a specific city so that I know if it makes sense to develop a site for that a particular area.

Local search
hi, Local search case i try to evaluate local competition on a local query such as "hairdresser + the city name" in Google for a merchant without website neither a google adresse listing. Top results : 7 google adresses pack : ok Organic results : SERP display only directories ! The first 10 pages are reviews platforms & local directories (qype, yelp, yellowpages etc..) except only 1 or 2 urls with personalized domains name. 1/ Would it be easy with to make a website + with a brand new domain name (myhaidresseShop.com) to dominate these serp (organics) quickly (first 2 months) ? 2/ Would it be better to first launch a targeted submission campaign (popularity) on those local directories with personalized data (first month) , and later on, to build a website ? 3/ Or ideally, from start, to make both a local campaign (Google adresse + submission) and launch a new website ? Tks in advance...
