This is a bit of a rant, to be fair, but I'd appreiciate peoples opinions all the same...
If you search google in the US for long hairstyles at around position 4 and 5 there are a couple of pinterest pages that are just doorway pages for the sites they link (or mostly link) to.
The first one http://pinterest.com/hairstylesweekl/long-hairstyles-for-women-2012-2013-long-hairstyle/ is said to have 6k pinterest followers, I can't fathom why a doorway page to such a low pagerank site would get that many but it doesn't look like they've bought them.
And the second one http://pinterest.com/hairstylesvane/long-prom-hairstyles/ is so blatent. 20 or so pictures all from the same site.
Google seems intent on penalising "wrong doers" while everyone else gets caught in the crossfire and yet someone throws a pinterest doorway page together in 1/2 an hour and it gets near the top for a relatively large search term.
Panda/penguin etc were sold to us as a fix for low quality and spam but instead it seems to have given a free meal ticket to people like this and yet established sites get kicked in the teeth by arbitrary penalties and negative seo.

Pinterest is ranking higher and higher in THE social media outlet on which to post links to our sites. As JDP said, there's nothing stopping you from featuring photos from your website on your Pinterest page and get those same followers--the good news for you, if your content is good, you'll land the consumer.

When I Google long hairstyles I only get http://pinterest.com/hairstylesweekl/long-hairstyles-for-women-2012-2013-long-hairstyle/ in the third position. I've noticed recently a very similar pattern with etsy.com stores. They are ranking #1 for several very competitive terms on pretty weak external link profiles. To me it just looks like a few external links to a deep page on a high authority root domain combined with a good title tag and a lot of internal linking. I'd say nobody is keeping you from playing the same game.

Why has my website been removed from Bing?
I have a website that has recently been removed from Bing's index, but can't figure out why. The website isn't new, and it is indexed just fine on Google. These are the steps I've tried: The website is verified in Bing Webmaster Tools and successfully submitted the sitemap. I tested the URL to ensure that Bingbot is allowed to crawl the site I submitted URLs to Bing via the URL Submission tool There isn't a "noindex" on the site preventing it from being indexed When I do a URL Inspection, an error message comes up saying "The inspected URL is known to Bing but has some issues which are preventing us from serving it to our users. We recommend you to follow Bing Webmaster Guidelines." I contacted Bing to ask whether the website was removed in error, but received a reply that the website doesn't comply with Bing's quality guidelines, but they wouldn't go into detail as to which guidelines the website isn't meeting. The website URL is https://www.pardeehospital.org. Can anyone offer any advice or insight as to why Bing won't index our site? Thank you!

Why isn't our complete meta title showing up in the Google SERPS? (cut off half way)
We carry a product line, cutless bearings (for use on boats). For instance, we have one, called the Able, that has the following meta title (and searched by View Page Source to confirm): BOOT 1-3/8" x 2-3/8" x 5-1/2" Johnson Cutless Bearing | BOOT Cutlass However, if I search for it on on Google by part number or name (boot cutless bearing, boot cutlass bearing), the meta title comes back with whole first part chopped off, only showing this : "x 5-1/2" Johnson Cutless Bearing | BOOT Cutlass - Citimarine ..." Any idea why? Here's the url if it will hopefully help: https://citimarinestore.com/en/metallic-inches/156-boot-johnson-cutless-bearing-870352103.html All the products in the category are doing the same. Thanks!

Any Tips for Reviving Old Websites?
Hi, I have a series of websites that have been offline for seven years. Do you guys have any tips that might help restore them to their former SERPs glory? Nothing about the sites themselves has changes since they went offline. Same domains, same content, and only a different server. What has changed is the SERPs landscape. I've noticed competitive terms that these sites used to rank on the first page for with far more results now. I have also noticed some terms result in what seems like a thesaurus similar language results from traditionally more authoritative websites instead of the exact phrase searched for. This concerns me because I could see a less relevant page outranking me just because it is on a .gov domain with similar vocabulary even though the result is not what people searching for the term are most likely searching for. The sites have also lost numerous backlinks but still have some really good ones.

Scraping Pinterest
I am new to creating agile tools with google docs and I was wondering if I could get a little help. I am trying to make a Google Doc that will scrape Pinterest. The problem I run into is the importxml reports "oops, looks like we ran into a problem...." and goes on to tell me more about how it ran into a error. I was wondering if someone might know why the importxml formula can't scrape Pinterest. Here is a link to my Google Doc if that helps: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Al9sXyLp1ZLsdFcxTVd6THlka09kMXBvNWJfeE1Ucmc
