Why, oh why does Google hate us?
-
My URL is:
www.drupalgeeks.orgI have tried my very best to cover all the usual SEO items.... But nothing... We are a legitimate company offering a legitimate service. Ideally we would come up in the results for:
"Drupal Developers"
"Drupal Development" and
"Drupal Designers"Yet, we cannot break the top 50 for any of these....
We have:
Optimized Meta Tags
Written Quality Content
Maintained a Social Presence in Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, Youtube, and Google Plus
Blogged with some consistency
Guest Blogged
Canonicalization
And dozens of other thingsAnd we are all around nice people and a good company....... Why oh why?
Can anyone take a look and see if there is something blatantly obvious I am missing?
Are we using "drupal" too much??
Thank you in advanced for any assistance.
Candice

Hopefully. You may find that you have to either get some of those overoptimized links removed, nofollowed or disavowed in order to see improvement. It's a tough call though because you have the potential to do more harm than good.

Thanks Marie for the thoughtful response! We will keep on pushing! It's is difficult to build links in high volumes, but hopefully our content will help us.

Hi Kevin,
It looks like the answer that I was referencing has been removed, but I'll give you my thoughts on whether or not PageRank affects ranking. The answer that got removed was implying that if you can get a higher PageRank then you will rank higher, but this is not always the case. If you do a search for almost any query, especially localized queries you can see sites that are ranking well that have a PR of 0 or 1.
Also, saying "Get a higher PR" is like saying, "Weigh less" without giving instructions on how to do that. The way you would get a higher PR is by getting good quality links to your site. So, the answer would be to get good links and as a result, your PR would be likely to increase. It is the acquisition of links that helps, not the PR.

Isn't it generally accepted that pagerank still affects rankings (I did notice you used really)?
Matt Cutts “PageRank while important, it`s **one of the most important **out of 200 signals that we have, is still one of only 200 signals that we use in ranking.”

Hi Candice,
Your problem may lie in overoptimized backlinks. Your top anchors are "drupal developer" and "drupal development". This type of link building worked well in the past, but these days can get you penalized. Without having a deep look it's hard to say whether you've been penalized or whether Google is just no longer giving you credit for those links.
Links are important for ranking and these days the links that count are ones that are naturally earned which are unfortunately hard to get.

Why Did My Google Crawls Hit A Wall?
Hello, One my the sites I work with, http://www.oransi.com, has seen a significant decrease in crawl Googlebot activity in the last 90 days. See screenshot. This decrease in crawl stats runs in conjunction with less Kb downloaded per day & an increase in how much time it took Google to download a page. The client did just go through a redesign, however that happened on 4/16/15, which was after the decrease in Googlebot activity, so that should not be the issue. Same could be said for the mobilegeddan algorithm change. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 5u1lM6B

Why are some pages indexed but not cached by Google?
The question is simple but I don't understand the answer. I found a webpage that was linking to my personal site. The page was indexed in Google. However, there was no cache option and I received a 404 from Google when I tried using cache:www.thewebpage.com/link/. What exactly does this mean? Also, does it have any negative implication on the SEO value of the link that points to my personal website?

Time for Google to change the emphasis?
Why doesn't Google recommend that links are nofollow as standard, via HTML5, etc., with follow being added if the link is on a quality site (defined by PR, or whatever.) and adds value. Wouldn't this save alot of time? Then they could whack all the sites with coding that doesn't comply, couldn't they? Also, instead of enabling negative SEO, why doesn't Google simply focus on wiping out the sites developed simply to pass on PR. I'm sure we could all send them a few thousand suggestions!

Organic Rankings for the US & Australia
I have a site that is ranking well for competitive keywords in the US, but would like to have it rank in Australia as well. Although there's no direct correlation, I'm running large Adwords campaigns in both countries. I've read to write localized content for each region, but not sure if this is effective as it used to be. I've also read to use location markup and microformats. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Google Places Multiple Location
Hi everyone, I have a client with multiple locations in the same city. I would like to have their Goolge places listing show up under the main website listing. Currently, one of the Google places listings in being pulled in directly below the main website but not the other. The Zagat rating is being pulled in as well. I would like to have both locations show up when you type in the name of the business. Any ideas how to do this?

Google Sitemap only indexing 50% Is that a problem?
We have about 18,000 pages submitted on our Google Sitemap and only about 9000 of them are indexed. Is this a problem? We have a script that creates a sitemap on a daily basis and it is submitted on a daily basis. Am I better off only doing it once a week? Is this why I never get to the full 18,000 indexed?

Google Previews highlighting Promotions?
I came across this today when doing a Google search - a site that has a small promo code listed on their page shows a preview with that promo highlighted...I dug around their code a little bit, but couldn't find if it was something they were doing to manipulate their preview in the search results. Is Google automatically highlighting promotions in previews, or did getmarried.com/magazine/ somehow manipulate the page to make their promo highlighted? And if so, how? You can see the site at http://www.getmarried.com/magazine/ and you can see the preview with the promo highlighted attached. ZDY52.png
