What is the best way to resolve duplicate content issue
-
Hi
I have a client whose site content has been scraped and used in numerous other sites. This is detrimental to ranking. One term we wish to rank for is nowhere.
My question is this: what's the quickest way to resolve a duplicate content issue when other sites have stolen your content?
I understand that maybe I should firstly contact these site owners and 'appeal to their better nature'. This will take time and they may not even comply.
I've also considered rewriting our content. Again this takes time.
Has anybody experienced this issue before? If so how did you come to a solution?
Thanks in advance.

No worries Alex
I mean, contacting the webmasters would technically be simpler, but the chances that you're going to get a response, never mind a take-down of your content, is going to be pretty slim. Hence I suggested the rewriting.
It's a pain in the arse and requires you to do more work because of someone's laziness, which if course isn't right. But hopefully, with the fresh content and the tags in place, you'll be given the full credit.
In addition, if any of the content come in the form of blog posts, or if you'd like to do this site-wide, implementing a rel=author tag and verifying Google authorship would again be a signal to Google that your content is original. Here are a couple of handy guides to help with the markup:

Hi Tom
That's a great help.
I just wanted to ensure there wasn't a simpler solution besides rewriting the content. I guess that is the easiest and will ensure canonical tag solution is implemented too.
Thanks.

Hi Alex
I think the best solution here and the one that you can control the most is to rewrite the content and then ensure that your new content is seen as the originator.
Rewriting the content will take time, but obviously ensures that the content is unique, removing the duplicate content issue.
If I were you, I would then use a rel=canonical tag solution, so that every page (and new page) has a canonical tag on it.
Among other things, this will tell Google that your site is the originator of this content. Any other versions of it on your site or across the web is being used purely for user experience and therefore should not be ranked over the original.
As you will be publishing the content first, it should be crawled first by the search engines as well. To ensure that it is, I would also share your pages on social media when they go live, as it helps to index the pages much quicker.
This way, the site scraping your content should (in theory) not be able to rank for the content - or at the very least will be seen by Google as the copier of the content, while you will be seen as the originator, due to being indexed first with the canonical tag.
You can read more on canonicals with this handy Moz guide.
Hope this helps.

How to fix thin content issue?
Hello! I've checked my website via Moz and received "thin content" issue: "Your page is considered to have "thin content" if it has less than 50 words" But I definitely know that we have 5 text blocks with unique content, each block consist of more than 50 words. Do you have any ideas what may cause this issue? Thanks in advance, Yana

Duplicate and thin content - advanced..
Hi Guys Two issues to sort out.. So we have a website that lists products and has many pages for: a) The list pages - that lists all the products for that area.
On-Page Optimization | | nick-name123
b) The detailed pages - that when click into from the list page, will list the specific product in full. On the list page, we perhaps have half the description written down, when clicked into you see the full description.
If you search in google for a phrase on the detailed page, you will see results for that specific page including 'multiple' list pages where it is on. For example, lets say we are promoting 'trees' which are situated in Manhatten. And we are also promoting trees in Brooklyn, there is a crossover. So a tree listed in Manhatten will also be listen in brooklyn as its close by (not from America so don't laugh if I have areas muddled)
We then have quite a few pages with the same content as a result. I read a post a while back from the mighty Cutts who said not to worry about the duplicate unless its spammy, but what is good for one person, is spammy to another.. Does anyone have any ideas as to if this is a genuine problem and how you would solve? Also, we know we have alot of thin content on the site, but we dont know how to identify it. It's a large site so needs something automated (I think).. Thanks in advance Nick0 -
Is duplicate content harmful? Example from on my site
I'm not talking about content copied from another site but content unique to a site being used on several pages. I have a delivery tab that has precisely the same content as another product page. This content is on four product pages and the dedicated delivery page. Thanks

Silo and content
I'm about to launch my site but I have a question regarding content and silo structure. If I don't have enough content to fill 4 subpages, could it be better to have only a content-keyword-rich landing page for a silo instead of multiple pages with poor content? Thank you!

Duplicate content and the Moz bot
Hi Does our little friend at SEOmoz follow the same rules as the search engine bots when he crawls my site? He has sent thousands of errors back to me with duplicate content issues, but I thought I had removed these with nofollow etc. Can you advise please.

Best way to optimize site for Google Maps?
I am working with a site right now and they are ranked #1
On-Page Optimization | | WhiteHat12
for many keyword phrases based on their location and service. Their service is an
Insurance agency, so they rank #1 for many keywords like “Miami Insurance” or “South
Florida Insurance Agency” (their not actually ranked for Miami
just giving an example). I also include their address on every page of the site
(maybe that better helps Google maps?). Problem I am having is when searched
just the keyword phrase they rank number 1 but when searching say “insurance”
while being logged in to the area they rank for they do not come up. I hear that
there might be specific ways to optimize for this. What I would like to know is
what would I have to do to optimize for Google maps and what’s everything I possibly
can do. I am good with search engine optimization but have never really dabbled
much with Google Maps, I always thought they just ranked you based on your

How to avoid duplicate content on ecommerce pages?
I am currently building the site architecture for a very large ecommerce site. I am wondering how I should build it out if I have products that I want to include in multiple categories within my site. For example: Lets say I sell fitness equipment and I have categories for things such as: Treadmill, Exercise Bike, Stair Stepper, Weight Benches etc. But then I also have specific brand category pages such a: Precor, Life Fitness, Hammer, Body Solid So my question is how do I structure this so I am building this correctly? If I sell a Precor Treadmill I will want to include that product under the "Treadmill" category page as well as under the "Precor Equipment" category page. Can I get some advice for the best way to structure this? It's obviously something I want to avoid at all costs of doing improperly and having to fix later. Thank you Jake
