Hi,
Where can I get a reliable list of the top 1000 keywords searched for over the last few months or 2012 or whatever?
Thanks

Yeah, those are some of the 'official' pages, but they don't seem to provide so much info.
There are lists provided by individuals or keyword research companies (i.e. wordtracker's) but they will usually be segmented for a specific search engine, it's country, language, the time it was built, etc., etc., maybe that's why you don't see congruence between them.
Here you'll find a few more resources: http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2066257/What-People-Search-For-Most-Popular-Keywords
Google's Keyword Tool also gives you an estimate of the searches for a term over the past 12 months, and you can segment by country, language and industry (if you leave this one blank you're supposed to get the most searched terms) although is not very reliable.
But I'd guess the best would be for you to conduct your own research based on the specific audience you're targeting.

Hello Branagan,
Thanks for that.
They seem to give a top 10, I was looking for a longer list. (The first link is dead btw.)
Many years ago someone somewhere produced a list of the top1000 keywords. I found one for 2012 but it didn't look very accurate.
I tried searching for top 500 with more success.

Please critique inexperienced keyword research strategy
Hello, Here's how I'm gathering keywords for my new website. I'm using a hrefs to gather (through looking at 50 competitors) many top content topics in the industry. I will make a list of hot keywords. Then I'm going to look at keyword planner and Google and add to the list. What else can I do? Tips/Articles/Videos welcome.

National keyword results v local keyword results
If the keyword contains the location term like "SEO company London" is it better to use the wider results over local? Additionally, some best practice examples of national v local result tracking would be great 🙂 Darren

Multilingual keyword research
Does anyone have any experience in multilingual SEO? We are looking for software that conducts research for GEO Locations such as UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan & India. Writing content for each of these countries is difficult unless we speak their language, we could look at outsourcing the translation but conducting keyword research for each location is almost impossible.

Include Location in Keywords?
I understand Google's local search automatically searches keywords with the location you are searching from. For example if I'm searching from Calgary and query "best shoe repair", Google knows I'm searching from Calgary and presents Calgary based results. I'm using Google's new Keyword Planner tool which allows for city based search results, meaning I don't have to include "Calgary" in the keywords I submit. The question I have is should I be attaching "Calgary" to my keywords for on-page optimization, and why or why not? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Narrowing keywords or build more pages - Startup
I provide local services to a number of small cities and am trying to decide the best way to attack local keywords. I need to decide if I should target all 4 cities or narrow it down to 1 or 2. I used the google keyword tool and none of my keywords have enough results to show data so I am left guessing by using the nearest major city and population sizes. Anyway, I have read over and over about how keywords in the title / description are imperative. Well, thats tough to accomplish without being spammy when you offer two services for four cities. I don't think lakeville snow removal, apple valley snow removal, eagan snow removal makes for a good title of a page. Also, it's not an easy task to get any kind of keyword density in the content as well. So how do you recommend I attack this? I have seen sites that create a page for each keyword with basically the same content excpet replacing city x with city y and they do well. I find this spammy and hope that eventually they get penalized for it. I guess I would be willing to do it, but would prefer a more natural solution. One more question, if I do keyword a single city, say Lakeville, what is the prefered way to keyword the home page compared to the service pages. Example, I have a snow removal page that the keywords would be lakeville snow removal and a lawn care page with the same.. So what is the target for the home page? Here is the results of my keyword research. ** Monthy Google Searches** Minneapolis lawn care - 880 Minneapolis lawn service - 590 Minneapolis lawn mowing - 260 Minneapolis Snow Removal - 590 Minneapolis Snow Plowing - 320 Minneapolis Snow Removal services - 58 Service Area Data (Minni has Pop of 385K) Lakeville - Pop;56K Income;86K Apple Valley - Pop;49K Income;74K Burnsville - Pop;60K Income;60K Eagan - Pop;64K Income;74K Northfield - Pop;20K Income;62K
