301 Redirect

Hello,
- On the 26.2.13 we changed domain names having followed the guidance of both Matt Cutts Youtube videos and googles own online documentation.
- We have a 301 redirect in place from our old domain ukmotorhomehirerental.com to our new site leisurerentalsdirect.com on a page to page basis.
- The site structure has not been altered in anyway.
- Google has been informed of the change of address.
After the change the new domain transition was pretty seamless and ranked in the same postion in the SERPsThe one thing I've not done yet is tell all the webmasters who link to the old site that the address has changed (could this be it?)

Pagerank won't register for a long time - 3-9 months over the past couple years is how long it takes to update the toolbar Pagerank.
Don't bother disavowing a couple links, that is likely not related unless you had issues with unnatural links prior to the domain migration.
Open Site Explorer will register 301 redirects as links - is that what you're referring to?

Hey James,
Seems like this may be troubling you still. I see 6000+ urls still indexed under the old domain.
A couple other things to try:
- Make sure the domain is properly marked as changed in the Google Webmaster Tools backend.
- Link reclamation (changing links from the old domain to the new one) is valuable and should be done, but the fact that you haven't done it yet won't stop the transfer process from working properly.

Yes that's correct and sorry for the confusion: looks like Firefox Firebug doesn't detect 301 redirects properly. I have tested your old site redirect with:
http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/
and looks good! Now I will think about your drop of traffic...

Thank you for the response, to answer your questions...
- The links have passed over ok
- Their was know sudden drop in the linking
- I've not received any messages in the GWMT
- The PR has NOT PASSED OVER yet
However I have found 2 link exchange directories linking to the site, I'm about to Disavow these
One strange thing is that both SEOMOZ and GWMT say that ukmotorhomehirerental.com (the old domain) is linking to the new domain 1028 times???

I'm only slightly familiar with IIRF (I also am on a IIS server so I have looked into this) but don't actually use it. Is there a chance it's just not functioning correctly?
Looking in OSE, are all of your links passing through to the new domain as you'd expect? Looking at something like ahrefs tool, do you see a sudden drop off of backlinks around the date the switch took place?
And last but not least, just to make sure, have you received any notifications in GWMT or are you comfortable with your link profile?
These questions might help get closer to an answer... Or somebody else might know better than I.

The 301 redirect is in the iirf.ini file in the root folder of the site ukmotorhomehirerental.com
The syntax in the re direct file is as follows...

How do you handle the 301 redirect from your old domain? I am unable to see the 301 redirect with Firefox Firebug.

301 Redirects
Looking for the best way to do the following. Business has changed its name, and has also become a corporate store. The old domain name is now no longer needed as a website page has been created inside the main corporate site. Obviously i dont want to loose all the traffic that we had and want to redirect them but there is a problem, that im unable to redirect the old domain to the new one due to office 365 installed on the hosting platform, and the old emails will need to run for another 6 months. I can remove the old site and put a landing page up, but i still need to redirect all the pages to the new site, and there is approx 50+ of them. My main question is i currently have atleast 50+ redirects already in there due to seo changes over the years, some would go back atleast 5 years, whats a safe amount of time that i can remove the older redirects And am i going about this the right way so i dont loose all the hard work on rankings etc

Http -> https redirections / 301 the right way
Dear mozers, Thank you for your time reading the message and wanting to help! So, we have moved our WordPress to https and redirected all the content successfully via htaccess file. We used a simple 301 redirect plugin, which we are using to redirect old URLs to the new ones. The problem today is, the redirections in the plugin are not working for http version. Here is an example: htaccess redirect: http --> https Plugin redirect domain.com/old --> domain.com/new but, the url http://domain.com/old is not redirecting to https://domain.com/new while https://domain.com/old does redirects to https://domain.com/new What can you suggest as a solution? 301 Redirect Timing Questions
Hey all, Quick question on 301 redirects and the timing of creating them when transitioning from an old site to a new site. Does the timing matter? Can redirects interfere with DNS propigation (which seemed to happen to us when we did redirects minutes after redirecting someone's DNS A record to now point to the new site) And lastly, how long AFTER a new site launch can one still submit redirects and not lose the google juice? 301 Redirect with index.asp
I am very new to all of this so forgive the newbie questions I will get better. Ok so after starting a campaign I see that I have many issues including where some pages are being deemed as duplicate content. 1. The report says the http://lucid8.com has duplicate content on 2 other pages 2. When I look at them it shows that http://lucid8.com/index.asp and http://www.lucid8.com are duplicates. 3. Really these are the exactly the same page because the default page that is opened for www.lucid8.com http://www.lucid8.com etc always opens the index.asp page. 4. Now I read that I should do permanent redirects and how to do this via IIS and I tried to do a redirect from index.asp to www.lucid8.com but that does not work because www.lucid8.com is pointing to index.asp and so we end up in a circle. So the question is how do I get rid of these duplicate page references without causing problems. Thanks

301 redirect of a subdirectory
Hello! I am working on a website with the following structure: example.com/sub1/sub2/sub3. The page "example.com/sub1" does not exist (I know this is not the optimal architecture to have this be a nonexistent page). But someone might type that address, so I would like it to redirect it to example.com/sub1/sub2/sub3. I tried the following redirect: redirect 301 /sub1 http://example.com/sub1/sub2/sub3. But with this redirect in place, if I go to example.com/sub1, I get redirected to example.com/sub1/sub2/sub3/sub2/sub3 (the redirect just inserts extra subdirectories). If someone types "example.com/sub1" into a browser, I would "example.com/sub1/sub2/sub3" to come up. Is this possible? Thank you!

301 Redirect with ASP (not .NET)
I'm looking to redirect non www to www and also .co.uk to .com. http://www.xxxxx.com is the intended target. http://xxxxx.com & http://www.xxxxx.co.uk & http://xxxxx.co.uk to redirect. I managed to do some of this but if I come through to a service page /services/cars.asp it redirects to the homepage. Need Help writing 301 redirects in .htaccess file
SEOmoz tool shows me 2 errors for duplicate content pages (www.abc.com and www.abc.com/index.html).
