Difference Between www.domain.com and www.domain.com/ ?
-
Hi,
Of course, it is obvious that when other sites link to you, they choose how to do so in terms of the anchor text. My questions is:
1. Most of the domain names I see on the web are: www.domain.com/ however, I am pretty sure that when someone thinks you have a site that there members can benefit by they will link to: www.domain,com , am I coorect in stating that the search engines (SE) see these as two separate and distinct domains?
2. If so, are these too, then these must be different and distinct as well: www.domain.com/best-service vs. www.domain.com/best-service/
**I went on that assumption and have created 301 directs for the latter example. **
3. How would one check to see if a 301 direct is in place?
As always, I am appreciated to this site and member's skills.

My IT Director and I just had an interesting back and forth discussion about this. I'll spare you the witty repartee and take you straight to a post in the Google Webmaster's Central Blog:
To Slash or Not to Slash?
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/04/to-slash-or-not-to-slash.html
Quote:
"If both slash and non-trailing-slash versions contain the same content and each returns 200, you can:
- Consider changing this behavior (more info below) to reduce duplicate content and improve crawl efficiency.
- Leave it as-is. Many sites have duplicate content. Our indexing process often handles this case for webmasters and users. While it’s not totally optimal behavior, it’s perfectly legitimate and a-okay.
- Rest assured that for your root URL specifically, http://example.com is equivalent to http://example.com/ and can’t be redirected even if you’re Chuck Norris."
We particularly enjoyed Maile Ohye's reference to Chuck Norris. It's handy as a search term if you ever want to find her post again Hope this helps!

1. Same domain, but they are different pages.
2. Yes, those would be considered different pages.
3. I use the Chrome Extension: Redirect Path. It creates a little widget in the header of my browser to show me when a redirect happened, and what kind of redirect it is.

Tools to see how many times a domain has been bought and sold? Domain Owner History?
Hi Folks! I'm in the process of trying to buy a domain off someone who isn't really using it for much other than a single anding page for his defunct company. The current ower is putting a massively high price on the domain (five figures) which is WAY more than what any regular buyer would value it at. He claims he paid that price several years ago when he bought it. I don't believe him, and I feel he's just using that as an excuse to value his domain very highly. Does anyone know of any tools I could use to help me see how many times the domain has changed owners? I have a sneaking suspicion that he is the original owner, but I have no way to tell. It currently has privacy on it so I can't tell much by looking at whois.sc or using my subscription to whorush.com. Any one have any other ideas for me?

Best Website satisfaction Survey Tool/Company to use
I need to do a voice of customer survey on one of our key webpages. It's basic questionnaire of why did you come here today, did you complete your task, etc. The company we were using last time Ipercetion has gone up tremendously in price and I was looking for another vendor with same attributes of easy to build survey and simple code that can be put on page easily. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Question regarding redirect to www.
Good afternoon – I was wondering if someone could help me with regards to my site @ allrmc.com I have been generating good content and building links for some time and we're getting great results but I was wondering if my site may be suffering from not redirecting to the www. I have heard that google treats “website.com” & “www.website.com” separately and wanted to know if this has been true in anyone’s experience? For instance through site explorer I am finding that using site explorer without the www. We have a 39 PA but with www. It’s 63. If I redirected all visitors to www. Would my SERPS potentially improve? I know this is probably a SEO101 question but would love feedback on this I’m too afraid to do anything drastic without asking first. Thank you for your input! – Cliff

Flow of Authority/PR Distribution of Internal Links
OK, there are tons of Q&A on this subject but after about 20 mins of sifting through I found nothing on this. On the surface it is a simple idea but I'd like to hear a wide range of thought s on this. So if a page has 150 internal links and only about 3-5 external links, would it still be considered a good page to get a link from assuming it is relevant and authoritative? My thoughts have always been that too many links on a page, regardless of whether or not they are internal links or external links, will dilute that page's authority either way and that in turn makes it a poor link prospect. If PR/authority flows internally through links then my thoughts should be substantiated. And I think that we all agree that external links flow authority out from the domain AND the page. But internal links flow authority away from the page which should make a page with lots of internal links on it a poor target for a link.

Websites copying my content and spamming it on 15+ different domains- WHY?? More pop up as I try to take each one down- what do they gain from this?
I own http://TheCareerProject.org and in the last 3 months over 15 sites have popped up copying my content and Google is scanning it as my own. Why would a site do this? Is it a hacker campaign to take away rankings? What benefits do they get from this. EXAMPLE1 : http://germanbollati.com/heat-victor-hugo-juarez-puebla/, EXAMPLE 2: http://rsa-dev1.com/unbalanced-underwriting-outsourcing-india/ There are 15 more I have submitted to Google Webmaster to evaluate and I contact the site owners and majority do not respond. Why are they doing this and what can I do? Thank you - Alicia- info@thecareerproject.org
