More than 2K dofollow links, from one site with one anchor text?
-
A week ago one person of our team added a link with anchor text on a web directory website PR5, but from this one link, Google indexed more than 2K links from this website with same anchor text, and then our keyword ranked first on SERP. The problem is that this clearly look like SPAM to Google, so which way is better to remove this link, with disawow tool, or to contact the web directory site owner?Could anyone give me any advice for this?

I agree with Brad - However, you may find these links start to disappear. Lot's of these directories feature 'recent profiles' or 'new links' in the sidebar / footer etc, which causes your link to appear everywhere the template is repeated.
They may reduce down to 2 or 3 links from this site over the coming weeks

Yes I agree with BeardCo, that smacks of unatural linking if you ask me (directories normally put links in sidenavs and footers if they have been 'paid' for which is really bad).
You could contact the directory and ask to have the link solely on yor profile page, that way it will be one link from, with one anchor from one domain which is alot more natural than 2k links with same anchor and same domain!
Just my view!

All links are from this keyword pharse that was why I asked for any help, or advice here so I will try to create some new natyral links, in other way I will need to use disawow tool, or to contact the website owner to remove all links.
Thanks Again

I think that is also a good answer, but I believe you have to take in consideration your anchor text diversity. If you have been targeting this "phrase" with any consistency and then you add 2k more instances of this keyword it could pose as some trouble and look unnatural. Remember linking is about looking as natural as possible, so if you think that is covered then you should be in good shape

Thanks a lot Brad, this was very helpfull.
We always create trusted links, it was the first time that one new member of the team has done a web directory submission, and he didn't expected the duplicate links, like this one from footer and sidebars.
Thanks again for this advice.

In this case I would not change anything. Google sees links in templates all the time. It is natural for websites to link to places in the header, footer, sidebar etc where those links will get duplicated. A natural backlink profile will have some links that look like this. Let me argue from the inverse. Are you suggesting that I should just simply find a site that will link to one of my competitors for their main keywords from 2000+ sidebar pages? Very rarely have I heard of Google penalizing anyone over a single link. It appears you got the result you wanted so now go out and build some additional trust. Keep building the case for that keyword to rank. Hope this helps.

I would be proactive and email the website to take the link down. If they do not reply in 24 hours I would use the disavow tool and make sure to cover your tracks.

Do links from such sites as TripAdvisor give any weight or support for SEO
And what about other sites like quora or other niche forums/blogs where one might leave answers, with a link to their profile, which has a link back to the owner's website? _Cindy

Linking root domains to your own site
I have been using the moz open site explorer tool and glancing at my competition. I noticed most sites if not all in the linking domains section have a link to there own site. How do i do this? On my site i have no established links and my score is only 1/1. Even with lower ranking sites that have there own site linking to there self have a 16/16. Any help would be appreciated I am pretty new to all of this. thanks

Is there a software to help me check whether the sites that i give link to, also place my link on their site (reciprocal link)?
When i exchange links with others, i usually put their link on my site hoping that they'll do the same. Since it's impossible to check all sites whose link i have placed on my page to see if they have put a link back to me, i was wondering whether there is a kind of software to help me do that!

Anchor Text Diversity Question
I had a general question, will I be penalized for using one anchor text 108 times? I did some reading and I read that Google will be less likely to penalize you if it is your brand name instead of like "make money fast" or another spammy type of anchor text? The anchor text that I used was our website name thanks.

Links from Related Sites with Low PR or semi-related sites with High PR?
Is it better to get a link from a site with lower PR but related content or higher PR but semi-related or unrelated content? For example, if I sell shoes, would a link from a PR1 or PR2 shoe or apparel site be better or a link from PR4 website that sells books be better? I'm not talking about sites with completely unrelated content, but how relevant is PR in obtaining relevant links if I am trying to raise the PR and rankings of my own site?

Linking strategy between my own sites
Hi, I have one main site, let's call it food.com I also have 10 smaller sites, let's call them mexicanfood.com, indianfood.com, italianfood.com etc food.com is on its own separate dedicated server the 10 smaller sites are all on a shared IP in hostgator I don't want Google to think that I have created the 10 sites for only purpose of creating links to each other. So, would you recommend that all those 10 sites link to each other? or should there be no interlinking within those 10 same IP domains? What about linking from those 10 sites to my main site? How should I structure my own backlinks not to get penalized by Google ?

Links from .edu sites
I have a band website and was thinking of making some link bait pages specifically designed to get links from high page rank music colleges and then funnel that page rank to my landing pages on my band site. I am planning on finding out what these colleges link to and create great information on pages on my site that the high page rank college websites will link to thereby boosting my trust and authority. How much will the trust and authority boost my site in the search engines? Because the colleges will be music colleges they should be relevant to my band site. Does this sound like a good strategy? Take care, Ron
