Hi MM,
Here are the resources I usually hand to beginning link builders to get them started:
- http://www.linkbuildingbook.com/link-building-resources.html
- http://www.clockworkpirate.com/
It should take you a year of full time link building to truly go after all of the strategies listed in the first 3 resources, and all of them contain tactics that you can use indefinitely. The important I'd focus on is keeping a steady pace of content creation and outreach efforts, diversification of your strategies, and avoiding anything that feels spammy (because that's a good sign that it's a low value tactic).
Feel free to ask any questions here, but that should get you started!

Hi there
Im just wondering how to obtain backlinks, when publishing marketing articles are not so good for seo, quality directories are done for my website, and backlinks from foreign language websites are good as well? How to get backlinks any ideas? Thanks.

Hi M M
I'm assuming you mean article directories with significant pagerank?
If so, you should watch this Matt Cutts video:
http://www.inetseo.co.uk/what-links-do-google-want-to-see/Long story short: avoid article directories.

I would also agree they are not worth much. A few years back I hired a PR firm out of LA for about 6 months. We talked about PR and how important it was to get some good quality links. They told us from the start that they were great with SEO and they would get us tons of backlinks. Everytime we had a press release it was getting blasted all over the place. We got links from yahoo, marketwatch, msn, etc etc. We also received links from PR directories. Over time I started realizing that nearly every press release was hitting these same "newswires" and that many were hitting the directories. It did not seem to add value from what I could tell. Directories are so easy. I join them more to look inline with my industry than for SEO value.

Are you talking about press release websites or article websites? If it's the former then there is minimal SEO benefit but if you find some industry-specific websites and post it to them. If it is article websites then stay clear of them, they were all devalued in the last update and I'd also get rid of any articles you have on these types of websites.

I personally do not think that they are good for SEO; however, they potentially can be good for PR and getting your company name out there.
The backlinks you gain from PR directories are usually pretty low quality and not counted for much.
Maybe create a PR section on your website, then use social media to give teasers about it, linking back to your PR section... that would potentially drive traffic to your site and get people to follow you to hear about PR news.
Hope this helps.
Mike

SEMrush Backlink Damaging SEO?
I did a test recently with a sponsored article for some of my products, including my most popular product (https://www.spaceanswers.com/sponsored/sponsored-wear-a-piece-of-the-universe-with-the-space-collectives-meteorite-jewellery/) and it just so happens that recently this very product dropped from 2nd position to 51+, I have since managed to restore it to 6th position but I am wondering if this article is damaging my efforts? SEMrush is showing a page score of 4/100 and a trust score of 3/100, which is obviously very low. Is this helping or hurting my SEO?

NoFollow & Directory Scraper Backlinks
I was wondering how important it was to remove/disavow: NoFollow backlinks - many ("buy viagra" etc). Directory backlinks - many questionable/generic directories. Obviously the focus is the equity passing links but both of the above constitute a significant proportion of backlinks to the site - I've seen that "scrapers" are seen as natural and obviously NoFollow do not pass link juice - but does the sheer number have a bearing and therefore make them equally important to address? Thanks in advance for your responses. Regards

Directory Submissions = Negative?
I see that a lot of SEO companies offer a large 5,000 directory submission package with slow, 160 day submissions. I don't mind spending the money to have this done, but my question is... would they help, or would they actually hurt my rankings? Since a lot of these directories are basically just copies of each other on different domains. As an added question, would it be worth submitting to all of the general directories on this list? http://www.seomoz.org/directories

How do you use a blog to help SEO.
Hi, So you launch a blog on your website, fill it with lots of great content and update weekly with more great content. From what I know your looking to gain 2 things! 1. Users linking back to your blog and 2. Sharing the content on social networks. Building up social lists on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc so when you do post something new you have a hub of users to help push your post by sharing it on social networks which should also help to generate more backlinks. Is this the main purpose of a blog for SEO? Would anything else apart from the above effect the SEO for the site? Maybe the freshness of content also has a positive impact! Also if your blog is picking up lots of links, for this example lets say 100 links a month and the rest of the site outside of the blog is picking up 10 a month will the blogs power of picking up links effect the rest of the sites rankings, would you need to anchor text link out of the posts in the blog to make the most out of it? Cheers
