Seo moz has only crawled 2 pages of my site. Ive been notified of a 403 error and need an answer as to why my pages are not being crawled?
-
SEO Moz has only crawled 2 pages of my clients site. I have noticed the following.
- A 403 error message
- screaming frog also cannot crawl the site but IIS can.
- Due to the lack of crawling ability, im getting no feed back on my on page optimization rankings or crawl diagnostics summary, so my competitive analysis and optimization is suffering
Anybody have any idea as to what needs to be done to rectify this issue as access to the coding or cms platform is out of my hands.
Thank you

Hi Joel,
I have indeed!
I'll take all this information to the development team and hopefully have this issue resolved asap.
Thanks once again to everybody for their input.

Andy

Hey Andy,
You've gotten a lot of good info here and in your email with Maura. I just wanted to add in here that the crawl trouble you're having (at least with our system) is with the http://www.inoncology.com/ home page itself.
You've got a 301 redirect from the root to the www subdomain, the www then returned a 403 forbidden to our crawler.
It may have something to do with the verification you require, it may be something more obvious on the server level. It's tough to say.
Either way, you'll want to get this addressed to make sure your site is crawlable.
I hope that helps.
Cheers,
Joel. -
Hi Lynn
Thank you for taking a look into this issue, your feedback has given me food for thought.
I am going to forward on your feedback to the powers that be on the web development side of things and see if this is an answer to the problem.
I've just looked at http://www.inoncology.com/home/ and from first review, it seems that this is where the crawlers are breaking down, as it comes to a dead end.
Hopefully this is the reason.
Thank you once again

Hi Andy,
Not sure why you are seeing a 403 error (I don't see this in the headers), but you seem to have an issue with your rel=canonical tag on your homepage. It is showing a relative link to "/home" which leads you to this page: http://www.inoncology.com/home/ which is actually showing a 200 OK status, but is obviously not!
Digging into the headers a bit more it seems you might have a circular redirect going on before that, I am seeing /home redirect to /content/internet/pm/inoncology/com_EN which seems to redirect back to /home/.
No 403 in all of those, but maybe the combination of wrong rel canonical tag plus the mixed up redirects is causing the moz crawler and screaming frog to choke?

Not at all Jesse. Thank you for taking a look
Brief summary - the pharmaceutical industry has to have a disclaimer on their pages for legal reasons. Forcing a selection/disclaimer is required by law. If you select the first option, it'll take you to the web address intended.
In terms of it being related to the disclaimer, SEO Moz was indexing it with this disclaimer up until a few months ago. There's no robot txt file as you stated, so that also cannot be the reason for this.
hhhhmmm........the mystery continues!!!
-
no robots file so it's not that. I do notice that your landing page has an annoying popup that forces a decision and then redirects you upon choosing it... I'm not 100% sure but that might have something to do with it. I can't seem to get past that and onto the site itself honestly. Everytime I click a selection I get to another page with a popup.
If I were an average internet browser *(which in this instance I am) I would leave your site and not return. Poor user experience hurts ultimately, and that was what I experienced. Not trying to be rude, just trying to be helpful. Sorry if I came off cross.
G'luck!

404 errors High Priority Issues in Moz Pro: change to 301 or not ?
Hi there, Moz Pro is showing us 404 errors on our site as High Priority Issues. These 404 errors regard deleted product pages, which we did not 301. Should we 301 them all backwards ? We have an ecommerce site. After reading How Should You Handle Expired Content? on Moz and a few other Q&A discussions I now know we should 301 each expired url and now we do so. My concern is with what was done in the past, and what we should do about it: for the past few years we have been leaving the pages on the site, creating a big amount of outdated url's without either content nor traffic in march our IT decided to delete these url's, and ask for a webpage removal in Google Search Console: we 301 only a 40 url's and 404 the other 3500 now 6 monthts after, we still have 2500 crawl errors in the Search Console, and Moz Pro finding each week new 404 errors Our SEO consultant says we should not bother about the errors shown in the Search Console. But I am concerned about these errors not reducing, and about Moz Pro High Priority Issues: should we 301 the url's to similar categories or products?

When I did my first crawl, I was given some errors.
Do I then need to re-crawl to make sure the errors were fixed accordingly?

Pages Crawled: 1 Why?
I have some campaigns which have only 1 page crawled, while some other campaigns, having completely similar URL (subdomain) and number of keywords and pages, have all pages crawled... Why is that so? It has been also a while I waited and so far no change...

Can I see when SEO Moz has crawled my website?
I would like to know if it's possible to see (maybe in my Google Analytics) if SEO Moz has crawled my website. I'm also curious if and where I can see when the robot of Google visited my website. Thanks!

Does the Crawl Diagnosis - Duplicate Page Content account for a canonical meta tags?
I see the same page listed 3 time (with different query params). But on each I have a meta tag pointing to the correct canonical url. By still seeing all three listed, does that mean there is an error with my meta tag?

Looking to Hire an SEO Expert for Travel Site
Hello Everyone, I hope this is OK to post here. I run a travel website and we operate tours abroad. We are slowly expanding after nearly 10 years in the field. I started the company from scratch and currently do my own website design and SEO work. However, over the last couple of years I've lost the SEO connection due to being so darn busy. I started account here with SEO Moz in order to get the ball rolling again. We continually rank high for keywords, publish superb content by great writers, and overall are doing fine. I would just like to ensure this keeps happening and that we have an expert on board to help us in sustainable organic SEO practices. What I'd like to do is hire an SEO expert to help with our site. It might be part time (10 or so hours per week, perhaps?) Anyhow, I would like if this person used SeoMoz and really had their fingers on the pulse of the SEO world. I want all white-hat SEO, help with page optimization, internal link structure, and help getting quality external links. I know that over optimization is something that is now on the forefront of SEO work, so of course keeping this in mind helps. I would like to be kept up to date (perhaps weekly overviews of data and how we are doing) and am willing to make changes as quickly as needed on the site. I would like to see how we rank with competitors and what we need to do to stay on top - for the long term (no short sighted decisions). I want to learn as we progress, not because I want to do the SEO work myself, I just enjoy knowing what is going on. I will not micromanage. I am too busy for that : ) I am not sure what amount SEO experts are paid, but I have a slightly flexible budget. I really want someone will communicate when needed and is thorough in their responses. Attention to detail is a must. I would prefer an SEO expert located in the US but who also knows how to access / think about markets abroad (Canada/UK/Australia). I suppose we can discuss pay once I have a shortlisted group. I am looking to hire and work with someone starting pretty much immediately (even in May). For starters, I suppose our budget might be $500 to $1500 per month. For the first month or so, we might offer payment on a stipend basis just so we can ensure whoever is hired is the perfect fit. It would be great if this person had worked on travel sites before or has at least traveled abroad a few times. But, no worries either way. Thanks so much! Thomas at jbt@journeybeyondtravel.com

Errors on my Crawl Diagnostics
I have 51 errors on my Crawl Diagnostics tool.46 are 4xx Client Error. Those 4xx errors are links to products (or categories) that we are not selling them any more so there are inactive on the website but Google still have the links. How can I tell Google not to index them?. Can those errors (and warnings) could be harming my rankings (they went down from position 1 to 4 for the most important keywords) thanks,
