Magento CMS Page Meta Titles?
-
Hey All,
I'm experiencing a bit of a problem with creating a custom, separate Meta Title for CMS pages in Magento 1.6.1.0.
I know this can be added through _CMS => Page => Page Information => Page Title, _but this method presents issues, as a length of 70 characters is a little too long for breadcrumbs.
I would like a way to add a second specific meta title field that overrides this first Page Title field_. _
I did find something that does this in Magento Connect for around $50.00USD, but this seems like something that should be easy and free to do.
Any suggestions as to a workaround or alternative free plugin would be most welcome!
Thanks!

Hi,
Not sure why an & would throw an error. Maybe try encoding it like &
Worth checking that the rest of the syntax is all correct and all tags are opened and closed properly in case it is not the & character that is actually causing the problem?

Is there a reason I wouldn't be able to add the "&" symbol to the title element in the first option? I keep getting an error when I try to add the "&" symbol.

Hey Lynn,
Option 1 worked like a charm!
Thanks for your help, it's a new CMS for me and I'm still getting used to it.
Cheers!

Hi David,
A couple of things to try (I haven't tested them)
Set up an xml update on the cms page like this:
<reference name="head"><action method="setTitle"><title>Your Module Page Title</title></action></reference>
Depending on the controllers this might change both page and breadcrumb titles (not sure if that is what you are after)
If you don't mind doing a small code change the trick described here: http://inchoo.net/ecommerce/magento/change-any-page-title-in-magento/ should do it. If following that you would actually be doing it backwards, the normal page title would be used in the breadcrumb and the updated page title used in the title tag.
If actually the breadcrumb is not the most important thing for that page you could just remove it, also with an xml update like this:
<remove name="</code">
"breadcrumbs"``/></remove>
Hope one of those helps!

New site: More pages for usability, or fewer more detailed pages for greater domain authority flow?
Ladies and gents! We're building a new site. We have a list of 28 professions, and we're wondering whether or not to include them all on one long and detailed page, or to keep them on their own separate pages. Thinking about the flow of domain authority - I could see 28 pages diluting it quite heavily - but at the same time, I think having the separate pages would be better for the user. What do you think?

Page Speed or Size?
Hi everyone. I have a client who really wants to add a 1min html5 video to the background of their homepage. I have managed to reduce the size of the video to 20MB and I have tested the page in pingdom. The results are 1.85 s to load, and weighed in at 21.2 MB. My question is does Google factor page load speed or size in it's ranking factors? I am also mindful of the negative effect this could have on bounce rate. Thanks.

Many Pages Being Combined Into One Long Page
Hi All, In talking with my internal developers, UX, and design team there has been a big push to move from a "tabbed" page structure (where as each tab is it's own page) to combining everything into one long page. It looks great from a user experience standpoint, but I'm concerned that we'll decrease in rankings for the tabbed pages that will be going away, even with a 301 in place. I initially recommending#! or pushstate for each "page section" on the long form content. However there are technical limitations with this in our CMS. The next idea I had was to still leave those pages out there and to link to them in the source code, but this approach may get shot down as well. Has anyone else had to solve for this issue? If so, how did you do it?

Pdf page titles and descriptions errors
In my weekly crawl report I suddenly have a huge number of title not found and missing page descriptions errors for all of my pdf files. The pdfs do have a page title (defined in the file/properties tab) However these page titles are not being picked up by the crawler or google. Any ideas how do I fix this? ( I am using the Adrobat 9 Distiller)

Sneaky Page Title?
Hi Mozzers, I am a newbie, for sure. But I have been able to figure out how to help my customer very well; with the help of SEOMOZ of course. Here is the question: My customer (ZR) has a competitor and they use the phrase ZR.com in the title of one of their high ranked pages. Please see the enclosed graphic for the complete story. I would love to know if it is even legal (a pro would know) please see enclosed JPG... Thanks a bunch! OJ0ZL.jpg
