Registering expired domains
Hi there,
I've found a good domain that is available for a new project. It has been expired for about 4 months or so. It has a couple of links, with the domain name as an anchor, nothing horrible. Will buying a domain like this be safe from an seo perspective? I'm guessing it would be treated the same as buying a new domain that has never been registered before, Would I be right?

RE: Link building when your domain name is your head term.
You should be ok using the head term, but I have seen a couple of instances where sites have been penalized for this. To be extra safe, you could use the keyword.com

RE: Open Site explorer shifting results - which to trust and not to trust?
HI Daniel,

It's generally a best practice to not have more than 100 links on a page. In regards to internal and external, I'd say any combination is ok if it's natural.
-
Both are very important for ranking. It's often a good practice to have important pages linked to as closely as possible to the homepage.
3)Yes, that's an issue. How would users navigate round your site if there are no internal links? There may be issues with bots spidering your pages too.

Webmaster tools...URL Errors
Hi mozzers,
Quick question. Whats the best thing to do about URL errors in webmaster tools. They are all 404s that point from external sites. Many of them are junk spam sites.
Should I mark them as "fixed" or just leave them. I'm hoping google is aware it's out of my control if spam sites want to link to 404s on my site.

Conversion tracking
Is there a way in GA to setup tracking of the clicking internal URL that 301's to an affiliate ID?

Penality issues
Hi there,
I'm working on site that has been badly hit by penguin. The reasons are clear, exact match blog network links and tons of spammy exact match links such as comment spam, low quality directories, the usual junk.
The spammy links were mainly to 2 pages, they were targetting keyword 1 and keyword 2.
I'd like to remove these two pages from google, as they dont even rank in google now and create one high quality page that targets both the keywords, as they are similar.
The dilemma I have is these spammy pages still get traffic from bing and yahoo and it's profitable traffic. Is there a safe way to remove the pages from google and leave them for bing and yahoo?

RE: 80% Bounce Rate.. Any ideas why?
Yes possibly..Make sure your titles are awesome and eye catching, this can help a lot. Perhaps add a "related posts" plugin to wordpress. That will give people more places to go after they have read your posts.

Blog commenting
I have been doing a little bit of testing in regards to blog commenting on high authority blogs that no follow comments. The comments have all been manual and added value to the blog. I have noticed quite a big jump in rankings for some keywords. I was wondering if anyone else has a view on the effectiveness of these links when combined with other link building methods?

RE: Implications of hosting country versus actual trading country?
In short, Yes it can have an effect on your SEO. You may find it more difficult to show up on google.co.uk, even if you have a .co.uk domain name if you use a US host!

RE: Understanding competitors link building tactics (possibly black hat stuff that seems to work)
- Where do people usually source these blogs which typically contain material on a range of different topics? Are these probably paid links?
If they are small articles on a blog, they may be using blogvertise.com. A blog network that lets you buy links on the blogs on the network. The owner of the blog writes you a very small article with your link for a fee.
- How do they get so much content out there, albeit similar content, to so many of the hastily cobbled efforts? Would that be an agency with connections or a blogging community site?
blogvertise.com again
- How can any search engine lend credibility to my competitor’s links when the article below has nonsense for penis enlargement stuff. Seriously?!?
Often these kind of tactics work for a time, but often they eventually do get some kind of penalty. These grey/blackhat tactics can work for months, or even years..often depending on how black they are.
- How are they not being penalised?
They might at some pont.
It’s frustrating because these aren’t the tactics I want to employ but they seems to offer success, but also, if your link is in an article that followed by another on penis pills, how I can take Google seriously in its stated aim of making things this prone to manipulation.
I always think a lot of link building is somewhat grey unless someone is linking to your content because its awesome without any incentive or encouragement. It's not perfect, but you have to work with it.

RE: Viewing links gained over time
yeah..theres majesticseo.com . You can put in your domain and it will show you a chart of how your links have grown over time. Hope this helps.

RE: Why a page with an On Page A grade has a less good rank than a page with a F grade?
onpage seo is only one of many factors search engines use. Google is getting better all the time at ranking sites for things that are highly relevant but don't have good onpage optimization for a particular keyword, but maybe is well optimized for a synomym..like a page may rank for "autos" when it is not optimized for "autos" but is for "cars".

RE: User Signals A Factor?
In my view it does have an influence, but it's a very small influence when compared to that of high quality backlins.

RE: Why would PA be 1 (0 links from 0 root domains) if it's linked to internally?
it could but that the ose bot hasnt crawled the link so isn't showing any pa yet. maybe it will in the next update.

.edu links
Hi mozzers,
I've had some great success reaching out to many .edu webmasters. Often they are professors and such. My question is, i'm guessing during the summer holiday period, reaching out to these webmasters won't be so fruitful. I'm not in the US and was wondering when the US Summer holidays are for universities over there? Also, does anyone have experience outreaching to these webmasters over the holidays?

RE: Keyword Rich Domain Redirects to Brand Name But How Will SEO Work For It?
If you redirect the keyword domain to a branded domain, they keyword domain won't show up in SERPs after googles worked it all out.
