Keyword repeats/presence in url's & over-optimisation
-
Hi
I'm about to launch a redesigned site and worried about overdoing kw presence on-page, primarily using in url's since will already be using kw in titles as well as page content.
What's current thinking re over optimisation: If kw is in titles and page content is it best not to repeat again in url structure i.e. less is more, even though this will cause things like SeoMoz on-page grade score to fall, or better to keep them/add them ?
Personally i think it makes sense to include kw in url again since helps make the page relevant, and so long as matches the content should help as opposed to hinder rankings for the pages target keyword. However when i look into this some say don't do this since is over-optimisation
The sites generally ranking quite well for its target kw which i obviously don't want to lose after re-launch & hopefully improve further, in the case of this example they are 'Sports Centre Services' & 'Sports Centre Equipment Rental').
The sites current url structure is similar to this below example:
frankssportscentres.com/services/sports-centre-equipment-rental
Would it be better to keep following existing/above format or to go with either of the below options i.e. more kw rich urls or less:
Or
Or even less
Many Thanks in advance for any helpful comments
Cheers
Dan

Hi Kane
Thanks alot for answering and your helpful reply
We went with option 2 in the end. The original wasn't an option since the urls were being changed to include kw in the first level category pages anyway. I was worried if keeping kw in sub-category landing page url too would be overdoing it.
Option 1 would still be my preferred choice for my own sites/projects but this is for a client so didn't want to risk 'over optimisation'
Yes the 2 kw/pages are targeted by 2 different pages of unique content.
Many thanks

#3 looks the nicest.
#2 is decent and has good keyword usage, and I think it would be fine.
#1 is too much in my opinion, and I don't think you'll get much benefit from using the keyword multiple times. This is the only option I would avoid.
The original URL is also fine, and wouldn't require any 301 redirects, which is an important consideration as well.
Regarding 'Sports Centre Services' vs 'Sports Centre Equipment Rental' - these should be targeted by two different pages (that may be what you meant but I want to mention it to be sure). Like this:
- 'Sports Centre Services' should be the target keyword for frankssportscentres.com/services/
- 'Sports Centre Equipment Rental' should be the target keyword for frankssportscentres.com/services/equipment-rental (or whatever your final URL ends up being)

Should URL contain primary keyword or primary + extended keyword?
Hi All, This is a query regarding what keyword should be placed in URL. Below is the scenario. I have marketplace website where I can service providers with users. I have a page with a list of Dance providers and want to rank it for Dance Classes, Dance Coaching Classes keywords. Since these keywords represent same business purpose for us, should I keep the URL as www.abc.com/dance-classes or www.abc.com/dance-coaching-classes? What is SEO best practice in this scenario? Kindly suggest.

Optimise root level page for secondary keyword or try to make second level rank?
My Main keyword ranks no where in the top 100 for any pages in my site. for / I am ranked at number 10 for a great secondary keyword. Really want to get this secondary keywordranking on /secondary-keyword.html , should I focus my main page only on my primary keyord and remove any references to "Secondary Keyword"? What I feel here is that I would be sacrificing my rank for "Secondary Keyword"

Should I use an acronym in my URL?
I know that Google understands various acronyms. Example: If I search for CRM System, it knows i'm searching for a customer relationship management system. However, will it recognize less known acronyms? I have a page geared specifically for SAP data archiving for human capital management systems. For those in the industry, they simply call it HCM. Here is how I view my options: Option #1: www.mywebsite.com/sap-data-archiving/human-capital-management Option #2: www.mywebsite.com/sap-data-archiving/hcm Option #3: www.mywebsite.com/sap-data-archiving/hcm-human-capital-management With option #3, i'm capturing the acronym AND the full phrase. This doesn't make my URL overly long either. Of course, in my content i'll reference both. What does everyone else think about the URL? -Alex

Will a on-page food/drink menu take away from my target keywords?
I am trying to rank for Chicago corporate events, so I am writing new content for a landing page. I have a description of our venue and why one should have a corporate event there, all content that is very rich in corporate event keywords. I then go on to say our drink packages and food packages. Overall, my actual keyword targeted content is 1/5 of the content and the other 4/5 is menu. At first I thought the more content the better, but now that I realize a lot fo the content is just saying different foods and alcohols I'm questioning my strategy. I'm going to do my metas and h1s and stuff with corporate event keywords. But is the menu going to get in the way of ranking for the corporate event keywords? Thanks in advance 🙂
